Prologue - Discovery
It all started one day on the way home from school. Joey had seen Emma on the bus for a few years now. She lived just down the block from him, and usually they were the last two on the bus. He had feelings for her for a while, but especially as Joey was getting into his teens he noticed his feelings turning more into a crush. Emma often wore soft-looking sweaters, and Joey wasn’t sure why but he often found himself staring at her in them on bus rides back to their neighborhood. He wanted to initiate a conversation with her, but was just too shy and afraid to do so.
It was the last day of school, Joey finishing his 6th grade year and Emma 8th. As the bus neared close to the end of the route, Emma was in the seat behind Joey. He had his arms up on the backrest of the seat, zoned out with headphones in and kicking himself that he hadn’t tried to talk to her. As Emma was on her way to high school next year, this might be the last time he saw her again for a long time.
After the bus door closed once the third-to-last student was dropped off, Emma took hold of Joey’s wrists and pulled them back behind his seat. Joey jerked in reaction but Emma held his wrists firm with one hand, and as he started to turn and ask what the hell she was doing, Emma took his headphones off. With her other hand she covered his mouth, leaned forward and pulled his head back speaking quickly but softly into his ear. “Shhh - relax, relax. Your name’s Joey, right? I think our parents know each other. I just wanted to let you know I’ve noticed you staring at me, and I just wanted to say that while I take it as a compliment, you shouldn’t stare at other people.”
Wide-eyed Joey nervously mmph-mmph’ed in acknowledgment. Emma kept her hand over his mouth as they pulled onto their street and leaned in again, “I mean - I just wanted to let you know I’ve noticed it, and other girls might as well. I’m not trying to be mean or awkward, we live on the same street and we’ll probably see each other again so let’s not make it weird. I think we’re cool - can you nod twice to agree?” Joey nodded, and Emma let go and put his headphones back over his ears. As Joey turned around Emma started to get up for her stop, pulling her sweater sleeves over her hands. As she got out of her seat, she smiled and waved her fingers ‘goodbye’ with a wink. While Joey watched her depart his heart pounded - he couldn’t believe what had just happened, and wondered if he’d ever get a chance to talk with Emma again.

Summer passed, and as the new school year started and things got busy Joey’s thoughts went elsewhere. Even though he hadn’t seen her in months, every once in a while as the bus took the last stop before his house he would think about Emma and their encounter.
One night later that year, Joey’s parents said that they were going out to dinner with some friends down the street, and maybe Joey could hang out with their older daughter named Emma. Joey was plenty old enough to be at home alone, but hearing the name and realizing it might be THAT Emma, he jumped at the idea.
On the walk over, Joey had butterflies in his stomach. After they got to the house and Joey shook hands with her parents after taking off his shoes, he saw her coming down the stairs in another world with her headphones on, blonde hair bouncing as she skipped toward the kitchen in what seemed like slow-motion. Emma was even prettier than he remembered, and was wearing a fuzzy oversized sweater over her pajamas, obviously ready for a cozy night in. Gathering their coats to leave, Emma’s mom explained, “I hope you two will be okay - pizza should be here soon, feel free to watch a movie or TV. We’ll be back in a few hours but call if anything happens.” As they left, Joey went to the living room and nervously sat on the couch scrolling on his phone.
After a couple minutes, Emma came bouncing in from the kitchen, “Joey? From the bus?!” She gave him a hug to his surprise, he felt stunned and stumbled through the response mid-hug, “Yeah, hey, erm… Emma, right?” She let go and sat next to him cross-legged on the couch, “I’m glad you remember me, it’s been a little while. How are things going in middle school, still same-old same-old?”
They caught up for a bit waiting for the pizza to arrive, and as Joey learned more about Emma he started feeling less nervous and more comfortable talking with her. She was really direct and straight-forward, unafraid to say what was on her mind. She shared some stories about what high school was like, and gave some advice about making the transition to freshman year.
After the food arrived, Joey and Emma ate on the couch next to each other in the living room watching TV. At one point, one of the characters in the show put their hand over their friend’s mouth. Emma put down her pizza and put her hand on his knee, “OMG - Joey, do you remember the time I did that to you on the bus?! I’m really sorry if that was weird - I think sometimes I’m too aggressive telling people what I’m thinking.” Joey swallowed a lump in his throat, “Actually, Emma… I think I needed to hear that, and it was actually really kind of you to tell me. I don’t know why, but I kind of liked it.”
Emma - “Really? Well that’s a relief, I felt bad about it after. What did you like about it?”
Joey - “I don’t really know, I’ve never had my hands held behind me like that. I think maybe not being in control just felt… comforting, in some way if that makes sense? I don’t know.”
“Yeah, I can see that,” Emma said as she thought for a few minutes finishing her pizza. She turned back to him with a raised brow, “Have you ever been tied up? It’s pretty similar, maybe a little less comfortable but it’s pretty much the same. I’ve done it with some friends a couple times.”
Joey - “I haven’t, it sounds interesting but maybe a little out of my comfort zone.”
Emma - “ Oh, come on - it’s good to get out of your comfort zone! Why don’t we try it tonight? This is a safe place, I won’t hurt you.”
Joey anxiously agreed, Emma clapped her hands jumping off the couch, “Yay! I’m going to get some supplies ready, why don’t you use the bathroom before we get started then meet me in my room?” She ran upstairs, and once Joey made his way up there he saw a chair in the middle of the room, as well as a few woolen scarves draped over the foot of the bed. As Emma gathered a couple more things from her closet she giggled and excitedly said, “Okay. Joey - are you ready for me to tie you up?”
Joey - “Umm, I guess… what do I do?”
Emma - “Just sit down and get comfy.”
It was a wooden chair but thankfully had a cushion on it. Joey sat down, Emma guided his wrists behind the back of the chair, “I’m using scarves to make it a little more comfortable your first time, but maybe next time we’ll use rope!” Joey felt butterflies again not only from the feeling a soft scarf being tied around his wrists, but also at the fact that Emma was already insinuating they might do this again in the future.
Emma tied Joeys wrists together with one scarf, then wrapped another long one around his torso securing his arms to the back of the chair. She then kelt down and lifted his left foot a little sideways, toward the back of the chair. She looped another scarf around Joey’s ankle and tied it to the base of the chair back, suspending his foot above the ground. Emma repeated this with the right leg, then stood in front of the chair to inspect her work.
Emma - “Well that’s you, all tied up! How are you feeling?”
Joey - “Pretty good, I think. I definitely can’t move much, I don’t think I could escape but I feel comfortable.”
Emma - “Well good, and there’s one more thing I think we should do. How do you feel about a gag?”
Joey - “What do you mean?”
Emma - “A gag is something that goes in or over your mouth, to prevent you from yelling for help. Kind of like when I put my hand over your mouth on the bus.”
Joey - “Well I don’t think I’ll shout for help, but I’m up for it if you want to.”
Emma - “Great, I’m not worried about you yelling but I think you’ll like it. Being gagged is a fun part of being tied up. Same with a blindfold, it takes away even more control and keeps you guessing a little.”
Emma grabbed a wool sock and started rolling it up, “Okay, I’m going to put this in your mouth but afterward you won’t be able to talk. If you feel uncomfortable from here, just grunt loudly three times and I’ll stop and take out the gag. Open up…” Smiling, she gently stuffed the sock into Joey’s mouth, then grabbed a large knitted beanie and pulled it over his head, rolling it all the way down to his chin and smoothing it over his face. Emma then stood behind Joey, took another thick scarf and wound it once around his eyes and again over his mouth, tying it in the back to secure the sock behind the beanie.
Joey now couldn’t see nor speak. He tested his bonds and couldn’t move, but struggled a bit just to try. Emma giggled as he did this, “Okay, how does it feel to be tied up for the first time? You’re totally out of control!” Joey responded with a muffled grunt testing the gag and Emma exclaimed, “Oh my god, when you try to talk it kind of sounds like you’re saying my name - EMM!” She tickled him a couple times trying to evoke a response, “MMPH! MMMPH!”
Emma left Joey there for a little while as she cleaned up dinner downstairs, coming up to check on him a couple times. After while, she untied the gag, pulled off the beanie and took the sock out of Joey's mouth. She ruffled Joey’s hair and wiped off some drool as his eyes adjusted to the light, “Okay, be honest - did you enjoy that?”
Joey - “Yeah, I actually did. It felt like I was on another planet for a while, I don’t know how to explain it. The scarves and woolen hat felt really soft, too - even though I couldn’t move, I felt really comfortable.”
Emma - “That makes me so happy! Okay - we need to clean up before our parents get home, but let’s plan to do this again sometime soon. There are some things I want to try out if you’re up for it!”
As they were putting things away, they could hear the parents coming through the door. Emma gave Joey a big hug and said with a smile before they went downstairs, “Can’t wait to tie you up again!” As Joey walked home with his parents, his head was spinning - he was questioning whether that all had really just happened. Over the next couple weeks he couldn’t stop thinking about Emma and being tied up. One Saturday morning as he was kicking a soccer ball around in the backyard, Joey heard a knock at the door and looked inside. His mom opened the door, and it was Emma, “Hi there, is Joey home by any chance?”

Over the next couple years, Emma and Joey played tie-up-games periodically together at her house or his. One day in spring, Emma invited Joey to her house to play - she was now a Senior about to graduate high school, he was in his Sophomore year.
Emma had Joey lie down on the bed and tied his wrists, thighs, and then ankles together with three separate scarves.
Emma - “Okay, we haven’t done this before but I want to try something called a hogtie.”
Joey - “I’m game, what’s that?”
Emma - “It’s named for the way cowboys or cowgirls would tie up a hog, I’m going to tie your ankles to your wrists. You’ll really be unable to move!”
Bending his knees, Emma lifted his feet back to his hands and used another scarf to synch them together tightly. Joey tried shifting and realized he couldn’t budge. Emma rolled up a sock and gagged him, using a beanie and scarf to blindfold and gag Joey again like the first time. Joey turned over on his side and Emma began tickling him provoking more ‘MMPHs’ as he struggled in laughter, the loose sleeves of her sweater softly brushing against his skin. After a couple minutes, Emma noticed a bulge in Joey’s shorts and stopped. “Oh my god, Joey - you’re liking this more than I thought!”
Emma took off the blindfold and gag, and ruffled Joey’s hair as he breathed heavily with closed eyes. Joey said, “I’m sorry Emm, I really like it when you tie me up. I really like you and it’s difficult to control - I hope we’re still cool.” Emma lightly rubbed his back still in a hogtie, "It’s okay, Joey. I know you’re getting older and this is part of growing up. I just see you more like a little brother now, and I freaked out for a moment. We’re still cool”. Emma untied Joey, and he awkwardly left to go home.
She didn’t come over or reach out again, and eventually Joey heard Emma had gone out of state for College. He felt sad for a while, like a part of his life was over. Joey moved on as he started getting ready for College himself. Little did he know, another chapter would begin not too far in the future.
