I moved the website to a new host, which I think will be more tolerant of the content this website hosts. A short story about a fun birthday tieup would be fun including what the ribbon and wax candles were around.

Try writing both at the same time. A paragraph or two in one story, then the same in the next. And so on until they're finished.

I assume eventually you'll write both? And if so the question becomes which one first....
Tend to agree with previous posters, most likely one of these ideas appeals to you more, one you return to, find it easier to flesh out and imagine the flow of. I'd write that one, because you'll have more enjoyment of the subject matter, which- from experience -goes a long way to helping the writing process.
