Website Migration Update

I moved the website to a new host, which I think will be more tolerant of the content this website hosts. Nevertheless, I do want to take a moment to remind everyone that the stories and content posted here MUST follow website rules, as it it not only my policy, but it is the policy of the hosts that permit our website to run on their servers. We WILL continue to enforce the rules, especially critical rules that, if broken, put this sites livelihood in jeapordy.

Should we be seeing Semrush [Bot]?

Post by tiedinbluetights »

I'm not familiar with how SemrushBot is supposed to work, but when we query who is online, should we be seeing it? I am, and am wondering if that is expected behaviour with the updated security for the website?

What is Semrush? And how does it relate to TUGs?

@Terry of you scroll down on the homepage you can see which accounts are online. Ever since the site is back up, it shows Semrush [Bot] among the users. Which does not have a user profile. So it's a website related thing, not a tugs related thing.
I believe you would be a lot more comfortable in ropes

As I say, @Ovi1 and @Terry, I am not a web-host expert or anything like that, but I do know that we have had issues in the past with crawler bots, and Semrush is one: https://www.searchlogistics.com/learn/seo/semrushbot/

So I was just wondering if we are now seeing the bots because of the updated security fees and package @chadmc90 mentioned, and if this is expected behaviour now to have some web crawler bots showing up as registered users without profiles. Perhaps @Xtc or @bondagefreak would have more insight?

phpBB (the engine this website runs on) has built in support for certain bots, such as Semrush. I don't believe it's considered one of the more invasive bots, but nevertheless I have disabled all bots that are registered in phpBB settings.
