I usually prefer thicker rope - string if its tight might cut into the skin a bit. I've used a cinch knot around a cloth band around my wrists. I tied the end to my feet so when you pull away, it cinches down on the loop over your wrists cinching it tight.
Always be careful in self bondage and keep a pair of safety shears close - I've had to use them once already

What kind of string are you talking about, and how much string do you have? Also, is there a particular reason that you want to tie yourself with string versus rope or something else (like bandanas or cloth)?
If you’re not able to buy bondage-related gear, I’d probably suggest getting some cotton clothesline or something with a similar thickness. You should be able to purchase that from lots of different places, as it’s fairly readily available. I don’t know much about rope bondage techniques, but a lot of people use it and seem to like it (and it’s inexpensive).
I know you mentioned that you’re not afraid of getting hurt (and sometimes getting bruised and marks is part of the fun anyway), but with thin material, there’s much more of a chance of permanent injury or actually cutting off circulation. Also, I think that the thinner the material…the harder it is to actually untie knots or actually cut off your binds when it’s time to get free.

I really recommend nylon rope and having scissors nearby just in case. It’s better to be safe.
