01 - A playful bet

First Story on these forums, so take it easy on me.
About 7 months ago, I was in a relationship with a girl, who I'll refer to as Claire, to keep names safe.(this was not her real name). Claire was the quiet, reserved type of girl who rarely opened to anybody, so that we were in a relationship was stunning enough, I suppose. For any interested in storyline, we are no longer dating but our breakup was not because of what I am about to tell in my story.
At the time, Claire was wearing a tight hoodie with a black t-shirt on underneath, jeans and ankle socks. this was her usual attire.
Claire and I were playing video games in my downstairs "living room" as you would call it. We were playing some sort of game based on luck,(knowing me it was probably Mario Party) and at one point Claire became frustrated and claimed that she could win at this game with her feet if she got lucky enough.
Me, having a like for tying knots that people can't get out of, and making a point to try it mostly with girls (hehehehe), took her at her word and pulled out the shoelaces I carry with me everywhere (2 laces, and they have actually had some very practical use!)
"What are those for?" she asked, curious.
"Well, you said you could win with your feet. I'm just making sure. put your hands behind your back." Surprisingly, she complied, and with my heart-a-pounding, I crossed her wrists behind her and tied them with one of the shoelaces.
Now, I'm not a bondage professional or anything like that, and thus my technique is crude yet effective. I simply wrap the laces really tightly and knot them off, I see little advantage to cinching, especially with little more than a shoelace to work with. But I digress.
With a few short minutes I had Claire's hands tied behind her back. She attempted to push buttons with her feet but she could not, and as a result could not win at the game.
I soon lost interest, and so I began to tickle Claire's sides. She was not very ticklish, but raised her feet in protest. I quickly reacted by grabbing her ankles and hastily binding them with the other lace. Then I tried to tickle them but they were not ticklish, at least not under her socks.
"Hey, this isn't fair, I'm all tied up!" Claire protested as I poked her sides and neck. At this point, she began to squirm and wriggle in her restraints. My tightness proved to be too much for them, and Claire was completely at my mercy.
I proceeded to tickle and taunt her for some time, until eventually she brought to my attention the fact that her bonds were cutting off circulation. I freed her, and there were marks on her wrists and ankles from the ropes. However, she said she enjoyed it, and I had the pleasure of binding her and many other girls at other times.
But my methods beg the question: How can I tie someone so that they don't lose circulation, but are still effectively restrained (ie.) they can't get out.
