Flag Wars

During the last tie up game, we ambushed Angela and forced her to play Cowboys and Indians with us after she came looking for (or followed) us. We tied her to a stake, and after dancing around and tickling her, we left her alone, intending to untie her after an hour. Well, Betty and Maggie freed her, and they in turn managed to capture David, Jerry, Donald and I one by one. They might have captured all of us boys had not Andrew, Frank and Robert gone looking for us together. Then Betty, Maggie and Angela quickly exited to avoid our reprisals.

The next day, Tuesday, had no tie up games. We spent the entire day swimming in the lake, and boating and exploring the lake. We did not, for some reason, attempt at revenge on Angela and the girls. In fact, revenge was furthest in our mind when we were having fun in other activities. We just enjoyed the day.

Wednesday started like just any other day. Morning was spent playing various games at the games - no, we didn't play any games that involves tie-ups. After lunch, we planned to go to the mountain to play. We agreed to play capture the flag, which to us is more fun than the game of treasure hunt. We decided to divide the teams and the flags while we're still at home, so each team will have to go at separate pathways toward one of the playgrounds (or plateaus) in the mountains.

So we tossed a coin to determine the teams. Heads would get the white and blue flag, while tails would get the black and red flag.

Tom - heads
Jerry - tails
Andrew - heads
David - heads
Robert - tails
Donald - tails
Frank - heads

So Andrew, Frank, David and I would get the white and blue flag, while Jerry, Robert and Donald would get the black and red flag. We agreed that the game would take place at the same plateau where we played on last Thursday, on our second game of Treasure Hunt during the first week of our stay. We at first prepared all our materials - the ropes, duct tape, the pieces of cloth, the water guns, the flags. We agreed that the agreed location where we would all meet once we got the enemy's flag would be a clearing between two sheds in the center of the plateau. As for Angela, Andrew was once again able to sneak us all out without her noticing.

We walked together until a point where there is a fork in the pathway leading to the same plateau. We took the right path, while they took the left. As I said, the pathways are very difficult to trek. Anyway, once we reached the plateau, we headed for the northern part of the plateau, and we planted the white flag there. We split into two, David and Frank comprising one team, while my brother and I consist of the other. We split in order to cover more ground. We agreed to carry the blue flag.

Andrew and I noisily explored the western part of the plateau, searching for the black flag. After forty minutes of fruitless search, we finally found the flag near the southern edge. We immediately went for it, before we could reach it; I was suddenly hit on my back with water.

"Bull's-eye!" Robert exclaimed.

"What the..hey Andrew, were you...?"

"Yes Tom, Yes. I'm hit too!" Andrew replied before I even finished the question. Andrew, like me, was hit in the back.

"Told you it would work!" Jerry said to Donald. Donald, Jerry and Robert were hiding behind the bushes beside the flag, waiting for us to take the bait. We did, and they easily caught us.

"Gosh Andrew, I'd never thought you would fall for such a simple trap!" Donald exclaimed.

"Ha! Ha! Ha!" Andrew replied. "But your knots must be escapable, or you'll never win this game."

"Don't worry, we've have something just for the two of you." Robert said.

"You can escape, but it would take you an hour or two, by that time we've won the game."

"Enough talk already." Jerry shouted. "Tie 'em up!" With That, Donald took away our flag, while Robert pulled my arms behind me and tied my hands at the wrists (which were crossed and palm to palm) firmly behind me with rope. He then looped rope around my waist several times, then cinched it, knotted it off, and tied the loose ends to my wrists. My wrists, however, were not pinned to my back unlike the previous experiences. On the contrary, my wrists are quite flexible considering my situation, and could reach out on my sides. I could not, however, slip my bound arms beneath me. Jerry then did the same with Andrew. They then positioned us back to back, and then tied our bound wrists together to ensure that we won't untie each other's knots. They then tied our elbows. After that, they duct taped our upper bodies together, at the chest level. They then shoved clean socks to our mouths, and then duct taped our mouths to hold the socks. They then forced us to sit on the ground, where they tied our ankles (not crossed), and our knees.

"Gentlemen, I suppose you're wondering how will you ever escape such a predicament!" Donald said, acting like his giving a speech. "There are scissors suspended from a tree branch by a string at about the level of your waist. It is quite near here, so you probably won't have trouble finding it. All you have to do is stand, hop toward the scissors, and cut the ropes. Enjoy!" Donald then planted our blue flag besides us, and took his red flag and they left.

Sounds easy, but is really a most difficult task. First, we've got to find where the supposed scissors are, then we have to stand up, which is a tremendous feat. Then we have to hop to it. Compounding our problems is our lack of coordination due to communication problems. Well, we began by looking for the scissors. A few later, I heard Andrew mmppphhhh loudly, and he started nudging me. I assume that he has found the scissors. Soon, he kept pushing me. I was annoyed at first, but soon got the message when I noticed that every time he pushed against me, he slightly lifts himself, but I kept forcing him back down. I began nudging him and folded my knees and pushed. However, it was useless for lack of coordination. One minute, Andrew will push against me while I was still resting. Then I would prematurely push, thus frustrating all our efforts. Finally, in order to coordinate our movements, I would mmmpppphhhh three times before I fold my legs and push against each other. At first, he didn't get it, but finally he caught on and started to mmmppphhhh as well, synchronizing our movements. Soon, after many trial and error attempts, we finally were able to stand.

But our next problem is getting to the scissors. Sure, Andrew knows where it is, but I don't know. I tried communicating that to him, but it was for naught, for the gag prevented any intelligible conversation. Andrew then jumped hopped his feet forward a little, which cause us to lower our bodies, but when I hopped backward to catch up with him to lift our bodies a little upward, I noticed we moved a little. Andrew then repeated the procedure, and I followed. Since Andrew knew (presumably) knows where the scissors are, I just followed his lead. Of course, each step is very small. We have to be careful; otherwise, we might fall on our sides or on our butts. Fortunately, although thoroughly exhausted by the effort, we managed to avoid falling. We were able to do it step by step, even if each step is tiny. Finally, we were able to reach the scissors, which, as Donald says, was hanging below a tree. We hopped beside it, and my groping fingers managed to get the scissors. Remember, even though we were tied back to back, and our wrists were tied together, the ropes aren't that tight, and we were able, with much difficulty, to get hold of the scissors. I soon began cutting at the ropes, but soon discovered that it is as sharp as a rusty knife, and it took us a full ten minutes of scraping and cutting of the ropes till it unraveled. But it is still not over. Our wrists were not yet fully free, even if now my brother's and my wrists are separate. I guess that Donald and the others deliberately used dull scissors. If it was any sharper, we might have cut ourselves. Anyway, I started cutting at the ropes on Andrew's wrists. Now, being not able to actually see the ropes, made some trial and error attempts before finally getting it right. Then, I had to cut continuously for a long time, because, as I said before, the scissors were dull. Finally, after much exhaustive effort, I succeeded and the ropes on Andrew's wrists unraveled.

With Andrew's wrists free, he took the scissors and began cutting the ropes on my wrists. As before, the dullness of the scissors made what should be finished in a second into a couple of minutes. Nonetheless, once the rope was cut, it quickly unraveled, and both our wrists were free. Afterward, he began with the ropes on our elbows, and the duct tape on our upper body. And with our wrists free, it became a question not of if we could get free, but rather a question of when.

We soon were rid of all the ropes and tape and were completely free. I looked at my watch, and noticed that it was a full hour since we were shot in the back. We rubbed our wrist, and our elbows. Since Andrew was wearing a black sweatshirt (it was overcast and windy) and jeans, while I was only wearing a blue T-shirt and slacks, my rope marks were more pronounced than his, although there were indeed marks. We removed our gags last.

"Finally!" I shouted. "It's good to be able to move again!"

"Oh they're gonna get it once it's our turn!" Andrew exclaimed. But we had a problem. Donald, Robert and Jerry took our backpacks and guns, which means that even though we were free, we could not take them down. The only thing they didn't take is the blue flag. We quickly grabbed our flag, walked to where the black flag is, grabbed it, and planted the blue flag in it's place. That's their first mistake. Now, barring the possibility that they already are waiting for us in the agreed location, all we have to do is race to the agreed location and claim victory.

We started a race toward the agreed location. On the way, we met David and Frank, removing the last pieces of rope and tape from their bodies, and removing their gag. It was clear that they too, were ambushed and as with us, they took their guns and backpack away. They were tied exactly the same way as Andrew and I, although they somehow managed to free themselves a lot quicker than we have when we were untying ourselves.

"Damn it!" Andrew cursed. "I thought we were all right because you still had spare guns. Now we could not shoot them down and tie them up."

"And I thought you weren't caught and we would still had a chance!" Frank remarked.

"Don't fret about it, guys!" I interjected. "We have their flag. Assuming that they haven't won yet, we've got victory in the bag!"

"Tom's right. So instead of yapping around, let's rush toward the agreed location and claim our victory!" my brother said, rallying all of us. We then run like hell toward the agreed location. We ran until we were very near to it, when heard footsteps. We quickly stop, and hid under bushes, fearful that we would again be captured and tied up.

It was Jerry. He was clutching a water gun with his right hand, and he was carrying a large backpack. He was alone! We hid on the bushes unit he came close enough, then we sprung on him. I immediately grabbed his right wrist, preventing the use of his gun, while Frank clamped his hand over his mouth to prevent him from shouting and warning his comrades. We immediately shoved a clean handkerchief into his mouth, and using the duct tape we got from his backpack, sealed his mouth with it. We then removed his backpack from him, then we pulled his arms behind him and tied his hands using rope taken from the backpack at the wrists. Now since we had no time to develop elaborate designs for his escape. So we instead made sure his fingers could reach the knots. We also tied his wrists to his waist. We finished by tying his crossed ankles and knees. Then we proceeded to loot the bag. Oh it was a treasure! Including the water gun we grabbed from Jerry, there are a total of six guns fully loaded in it. There was, including the rope and tape we used on Jerry, many coils of rope and torn cloth. Finally, after distributing a gun to each of us, with Andrew and myself taking the extra two, with David volunteering to carry the bag, where we went to the agreed location. We discovered that they haven't yet planted the white flag in it, so we planted ours, and with that, we won!

One minute later, Robert and Donald arrived carrying the white flag. Oh were they surprised when they saw us at the agreed location, standing around the black flag. They were speechless.

"H-h-h-ow the, the, the, hell were you able to get here first?" Robert stammered.

"What the heck!" Donald exclaimed. "We spent so much time waiting for them to fall for our trap, that there wasn't enough time for us to look for their flag."

"We win! We win!" Frank shouted.

"Not yet, you haven't." Robert replied. "We still have to wait for my brother, and we'll have to go back to where you took our flag before you can win."

"Sure, sure! But we still won no matter how you twist it!" David responded. As for me, the remaining steps to confirm our win is only a matter of formality, for we won in fact, if not by technicality.

Soon, Jerry soon appeared, having freed himself from the relatively easy bind (compared to what they did to us). We then went back to the southern edge, where we found the blue flag exactly where we left it. That confirmed our victory, and Donald, and the Taylor brothers acknowledge our victory like the good sports that they are. So, we win another game.

Well, my next tale is not the usual stories I usually give. To say it is unusual is an understatement. So read the next part and find out!
