What's the best way to start a tie-up?

My personal favorite? Start with the elbows.

The hands first. It's difficult to do anything with your hands tied. Then the ankles. Arms and legs are mostly "window dressing," but tied legs can anchor a hog tie. Then the gag. However, the gag can be applied after the hands are tied, if the captive gets mouthy.

Definitely hands first. As my sessions are usually playful in tone, I tend to leave the gag for last, trying to prolong my partner's comfort. But if we're doing nastier scene, the gag comes much sooner and stays on much longer

Presuming you have lots of training and experience, a chokehold so they’re not resisting for a few seconds and you can follow up with any of the above.

I suppose it really depends on the scenario doesn’t it? In a consensual scenario I’d say the bindings, especially hands are a good starting point with the gag being one of the last things so you can talk things through. In a non consensual scenario getting something shoved into their mouth before they can scream for help then beginning their bondage is probably the way to go
