So I put hydrocortisone on both wrists and now I'm looking up "rope allergies", trying to find oyt whether it's a particular type of rope I'm allergic to or worse case scenario, it's rope in general. Whether I might need to start using cuffs or leather or wear protective clothing or just stop. It doesn't have me in a depression or anything, but definitely threw a curveball to my day
Website Migration Update
I moved the website to a new host, which I think will be more tolerant of the content this website hosts. Nevertheless, I do want to take a moment to remind everyone that the stories and content posted here MUST follow website rules, as it it not only my policy, but it is the policy of the hosts that permit our website to run on their servers. We WILL continue to enforce the rules, especially critical rules that, if broken, put this sites livelihood in jeapordy.

Developed A Rope Allergy!! 😭
Developed A Rope Allergy!! 😭
I can't even believe this. Was having a minor self bondage session and freed myself after 20 minutes. So as I'm cleaning up I notice a itching sensation on my wrists. The last couple of sessions I noticed something similar but this was different. So I look and I have freaking hives on both of my wrists where the ropes were!!

I might have an alternative idea to ropes for you. Ropes are nice to use yes but not as key as you think. I do self bondage all the time and rarely use ropes. Scarves are a good alternative affordable and in different sizes. And very common to find. I feel for you about the ropes but until you find a solution try out the scarf idea it will work very well trust me. And they can be reused.
If nothing else you can continue your self bondage hobby.
Or I suppose use saran wrap? It might work but not sure if it will help or not though.

Do you know what kind of rope it was you used, and it would help to know if you have used that particular type of rope before. I'm thinking it might be an allergy to a certain kind of rope like you said, but more info is needed.

Sorry to hear that
I am not a doctor. However, I have heard of, and it is not as uncommon as one might think, to have allergic reactions to natural fibers such as jute or hemp. Even cotton, but that is much rarer. It is unlikely that someon allergic to hemp or jute would also become allergic to nylon or cotton, but again, the human body is extremely complex and developing contact dermatitis to certain clothing fibers or dyes (or even the microbes that can reside in them) is itself not so unusual. Unfortunate if it relates to a favoured clothing or activity.
Hopefully, you will figure out what is specifically causing the reaction and it will leave plenty of other options open.

Have you ever washed your rope? If you have, it could be the soap you used.
Just trying to find a reason that excludes a rope allergy!

I feel like I need to check which material in general. I also notice some evenings I'll have random spots on my body that itch and that have rashes so I'll wind up changing clothes, so I'm starting to wonder if it's the material. I used rope for my legs, ankles and a wrist coil. It's been quite a while since I bought the rope for the wrist coil but I know it's made of a softer material than the other ropes. Iirc I also think it's the type that Sub-Shop usually sells.
Update: After looking up the website I'm almost sure it's the cotton rope I got from there, but not sure whether it was the rope itself or chemicals from the rope being old. I wound up tossing out all the ropes used in that session. I'll probably try using scarves. I do like the aesthetic of rope so if I do incorporate rope again I'll probably stick with nylon and hopefully that won't cause a reaction. As a precaution I'll also probably wear gloves/pantyhose across my wrists.

It has to be the material used in the rope, or something put on the rope, that you're allergic to. You can try rope from a different material once your skin issues clear up to see if that was the issue.
