Website Migration Update

I moved the website to a new host, which I think will be more tolerant of the content this website hosts. Nevertheless, I do want to take a moment to remind everyone that the stories and content posted here MUST follow website rules, as it it not only my policy, but it is the policy of the hosts that permit our website to run on their servers. We WILL continue to enforce the rules, especially critical rules that, if broken, put this sites livelihood in jeapordy.

Problem with login

Post by Bastian »

Hi,
for some hour I have had problems with login. A banner said that I had exceded my attemps to login and I was not able to enter in the forum.
I registered again with another username to ask for help but (maybe I'm wrong) I was ignored. Eventually I managed to change my password and now everything works fine. What the heck had happened? It was a bug or another type of problem?

Hey @Bastian
You were not ignored. Your alternate account's post was approved and moved to the staff board for further investigation.
It's something that has plagued several members over the course of the last few weeks.
So far, all of the ones that reached out to me with this problem have seen it resolved in a matter of days. We're looking into it.

same thing happened to me several times. I think the problem may be closing down the tug window without logging out of account. See if helps.

I had the same problem around mid to end of March. I couldn't log in from my home network but I was able to do so from my mobile network.

I originally thought it might be a home network issue but even after reseting my system and updating all the firmware, it didn't change anything. After several days, it cleared itself up and hasn't been an issue again.

However I do have a theory. Around the time this happend, I was off work for several weeks due to work slowing down and constantly on here checking/sending PM's and trying to catch up on some stories. My theory is we might have a cap on how often we can actually login via one particular IP address in the span of a week or something. Maybe the system is flagging to frequent logins as bots or something. I honestly don't know for sure but I suppose it's plausible at the very least. I will note, leaving my web browser open and logged in, didn't seem to help as I get logged out roughly 30 nins of activity.

Again, idk if it was related to what happened but I'm just putting it out there for those that have more inside knowledge of the system then myself.

I'm constantly getting a message "406 Not Acceptable"
This is after several days of server issues on the site end of it. Something about the firewall.

Guys, this has nothing to do with you. It's a site hosting/firewall issue. It's affecting everyone.
The site should be back to normal soon. Let's just be patient.

Yes, it's a hosting/firewall issue.

At the first of the month, I decided that we needed a new host. The current host has auto renew subscriptions on the services we use. We had already paid up for a month of service before I can cancel it, so I went in and cancelled the billing on all products, including the firewall. Unfortunately I didn't realize that the firewall wasn't paid up since it has a due date later in the month. When it expired, the service used for the firewall I guess lost all the information on the website, and unfortunately, the website DNS service is still redirecting through the firewall.

Instead of arguing with these hosts once again to try to fix the issue, I am just going to move hosts. My plan is to do it this weekend.

I am sorry for the issues. I hope the grass will be greener with a new host.

Hey y'all, has anyone else had trouble getting on this site? I found in only able to open it infrequently the past week or so and all the other times I get a new error message I haven't seen before. I was wondering if that's a common issue or if that's something wrong on my end?

Something is wrong with the host, so it's not on your end. @bondagefreak gave us a mirror on DA, namely mail.tugstories.com

I highly recommend joining DeviantArt and following him there. Not only do you get updates when there's an outage, you get lots of epic TUGs material!
I love to chat and roleplay. DMs are open.

Hey @CaptiveDan. I moved your thread to the more appropriate section and merged it into this already existing thread. Take a look at @chadmc90's post (right above your own) when you have a moment. Everything is explained in it.
