A risky play by Chris seems to turn out well. She played on the charms of her group, and it seems like it succeeded. I had expected Natalie to be more cocky as she was during the interview, but it all seems to end well

Taking the odd risk is one of the reasons that Chris is so intriguing. And makes her exploits so enjoyable to read.

Theda von Treskow had hovered on the Threshold of full Consciousness for quite a while. There were a lot of different Sensations: Her whole body hurt like after a heavy Workout. Every Muscle screamed: Pain! There was stinging Pain in her Stomach, which came and went. Like someone plunging a Dagger into her Belly: again, again and again. And it was one bout of Pain which ripped her out of her Stupor. She lay on something soft. Her Body was covered by something soft too. If she had to guess, she wore silken PJs.
Opening her Eyes was a monumental effort. She stared at a ceiling, a ceiling she knew: Her Bedroom “She is awake!†a voice she knew! Lisa! “Wait, Boss!†Olga! “I will help you sit up. Five Minutes later Theda von Treskow sat comfortably reclined, a few silken Cushions on her Back in her Bed, and fixated on her PA and her Assistant “How long was I out?†Her Voice raspy like rough Sandpaper “You slept for 1700 Hours yesterday†Lisa provided helpfully “Dr. Richter said, “Sleep would be the best Medicine!â€
Theda nodded – and winced “How late is it now?†“0945 in the Morning†Lisa added. The Lawyers cold blue Eyes drilled into Lisa´s “Where are von der Marwitz and her Gang?†Her tone was businesslike but with a steely undertone, Lisa and Olga exchanged a look.
Their Boss did not really look very well. Still pale like white Marble. Her normally shiny red Mane, dull and lifeless.
Finally, the Blonde spoke, but she kept no eye contact “Obviously von der Marwitz checked out at the Hotel around 1400 Hours …. the Day before†She pulled herself together “We found no Trace of her and her People. We have to assume, there are at least three of her Friends with her.â€
“So, we are back at square one!†the Redhead surmised dismissively “We have an Idea though†Olga piped up “Yes?†“We should search von Harenberg´s Offices another time – and have a chat with his Secretary!â€
For a while the Lawyer said nothing, then she snapped “What are you doing still here?†She paused “Send Magda up to me with Breakfast!†“Yes Boss!†Lisa confirmed, “Hurry!†Theda ordered.
A Stream of Pictures flooded her Mind. How von der Marwitz had smiled at her at the Ai Portici “We always have a Choice†Chris returned cooly “You will learn†– Another picture: She stared in Disbelief at the fluffy Arrow, which had poisoned her. Von der Marwitz asking her in the Car “Tell me, Theda. Was it worth all this? Murdering Robert? Ambushing me? Abducting and torturing Sophie and Ruth? Tell me, I am curious.†What had happened at the Exchange she remembered dimly. It was all a blur.
Theda von Treskow though remembered keenly the excruciating Pains of the Poisoning. The lavalike burning heat and the Waves of icy coldness which rivalled the Arctic Cold she experienced during a Trip to Greenland years ago. The Paralysis. The only thing she remembered clearly: She reached Lisa and broke together – then there only had been silken Blackness.
Theda von Treskow seethed with Anger. That and how the Pianist had turned the Tables on her was beyond her Grasp. How had the Blonde done that? In the Lawyer´s Mind, a small, but persistent Voice whispered, “She told you so – you did not do your Homework!†The Voice cackled maliciously “You are an Amateur! Theda von Treskow! A bloody Amateur!â€
Von Treskow opened and closed her Hands, trying to get a grip.
A knock at the Door interrupted her dark thoughts “Come in!†she bellowed.
Around the same Time: Somewhere in Heidelberg:
Chris, Anna, Ragna, and Natalie Jungklausen were on their way to the City Centre. The Russian was driving. The Investigator sat on the Backseat, Ragna on her left. After Breakfast, they had made Plans for Today. Ragna, Anna, Chris, and Natalie would search Robert von Harenberg´s Offices and meet Rahel there, Robert´s Secretary. Ruth, Sophie, and Sybil would work through the recovered Documents and do Research.
Sophie had been on the Verge of arguing, but von der Marwitz had none of it “Sophie you had two very rough Days, you and Ruth need Rest. Nobody is doubting you. But this is my final Word.†The Pianist had not spoken loud but clear and firm – with a natural Authority.
The Lawyer and the Pianist had locked Eyes, but finally, Sophie had stood down “You are right, Chris†She nodded “Some more Rest would be welcome†Natalie was impressed. Not for the first time. In the Morning before Breakfast Chris had returned her Service Weapon, her Smartphone, and her other personal effects to her.
Chris's Smartphone signaled an incoming Call. The Pianist looked at the Display and took the Call “Yes, Rahel?†The Blonde listened for a while “We will be there in 15 Minutes Rahel! Do close the Door and open nobody!â€
She turned around sharply “Come! We have to go! Rahel has found something!â€
And now they were on their way. The Russian drove like the devil. Not minding any Speed Limits. Enjoying this clearly “You look a little green in the face!†Ragna chuckled. Amused “You need a vomit bag?†The herculean Icelandress asked innocently.
Natalie had to suppress the Urge to hit the Blonde ….
Chris smiled but looked straight ahead. Amused she shook her Head.
Robert von Harenberg´s Office at the same Time:
Rahel laid her Phone on the Desk. Robert´s Desk. She had gone through his Files. Then her Look fell on the Bookshelf left to the Lawyer´s Desk. Goethe´s Complete Works. Robert had loved Goethe, especially Faust. Rahel knew her Boss had read every Volume.
But Goethe´s Tale of the Genius striking a Pact with the Devil always drew him in.
The Secretary smiled sadly “He could quote many Passages from Memory†– one especially. The faithful Moment, when Faust and Mephisto struck a deal:
Werd’ ich zum Augenblicke sagen:
Verweile doch! du bist so schön!
Dann magst du mich in Fesseln schlagen,
Dann will ich gern zu Grunde gehn!
Dann mag die Todtenglocke schallen,
Dann bist du deines Dienstes frey,
Die Uhr mag stehn, der Zeiger fallen,
Es sey die Zeit für mich vorbey!

When thus I hail the Moment flying:
“Ah, still delay—thou art so fair!â€
Then bind me in thy bonds undying,
My final ruin then declare!
Then let the death-bell chime the token.
Then art thou from thy service free!
The clock may stop, the hand be broken,
Then Time be finished unto me!
It was as if Rahel heard Robert reciting these Verses. She stopped dead in her Tracks. A thought crossed her Mind. “Where would Robert hide Evidence, he would not want to be found. Or leave a clue at least?â€
Rahel looked at the Bookshelf again.
Could it be? It would make sense. That would be just Robert.
Her musings were interrupted by a cool Voice “Rahel! So happy to see you again!†The dark-haired Secretary froze – and turned slowly around to face two Women. Two Women, she knew. The Women who had killed Robert and attacked Chris and her.
“You!†Rahel said with an almost unnatural calm and utter contempt “You!†She spat “Miserable B*tch! Chris will break your Neck and feed you to the Wolves!â€
Lisa was amused by that display of Defiance “Alas Blondie is not here, we are!†A cruel Smile curled her full lips.
The blonde Woman aimed a large Handgun at her “My Boss wants to have a Chat with you!†She smiled malevolently “How do they say? Resistance is futile!†She turned to her dark-haired Companion “Why don´t you prepare little Rahel?â€
Olga smiled “Gladly!â€
Robert´s Secretary stared back “Make me!†Rahel hissed. She had absolutely no Idea where she took the Courage from – to defy her Attackers and Robert´s Murderers. But she would not go down without a fight.
Bergheimer Straße, 15 Minutes later:
“Here it is!†Chris said to Anna and cursed in the same second – in Japanese “What is it?†Ragna asked from the Backseat “That black Van!†Chris explained, “Those Bitches are already there!†The Blonde looked around “There is a Parking Space Anna!†“Saw it!†The Russian smiled.
They parked directly before the Bergheimer Straße 86 “Anna, and Ragna you are with me!†Chris ordered “Natalie, you cover the Front Door. Stop them if necessary!†The Pianist almost jumped out of the Car – without turning back. Ragna and Anna followed: their Glocks at the Ready. The Weapons they carried were slightly modified Versions of the Standard Version. Also, the Ammunition was different: Armour piercing Rounds.
Chris punched in the Entry Code. With a soft click the Door opened. They hurried up the Stairwell.
“Anna take the Elevator! Ragna, we take the Stairs!†“Will do!†the Russian confirmed. This time the two Assassins would not get away! Chris hurried upstairs; Ragna was hot on her Heels. Guns at the ready. A sense of grim Determination filled Chris. The Pianist was All-Purpose. Her yellow Veja-Sneakers made almost no noise on the marble Stairs. Ragna followed her Friend, watching Chris´ back.
Ragna knew her Friend well. It had been a wild ride for Chris since they embarked on the Journey to Egypt. She could read the Pianist quite well – few People could read the Pianist at all. To many, it was a mystery what happened behind those beautiful classical features, which were so similar to a Greek Statue of white smooth, translucent Parian Marble.
In the last Weeks, the Blonde had been better, but Robert's Death had affected her – even if Chris did her best to hide that very much. One had to know the Pianist very well to read the Signs. The Icelandress knew – and felt with her close Friend.
They reached the second Floor – one more to go!
Robert von Harenberg´s Office:
“You do look good Rahel!†Lisa smiled. Not that Rahel could reply or see her. What would a casual observer have seen? A Woman, wearing a beige Trench Coat, wearing black High Heels. She wore Shades, a Headscarf, and a colourful medical mask, covering her lower face.
What the Observer could not see? The Woman was tightly gagged: Her mouth had been stuffed with silk scarves. Another Scarf covered her lower Face, hidden by the Mask. Under the Coat? Rahel's wrists were tied together with Scarves, as well as her Elbows. The Crotch Scarf he could not see – it was hidden under her Skirt. Her Skirt hid the Scarf which held her Knees together as well.
Rahel felt, that someone gripped her tightly at her right upper Arm “Move!†Rahel stumbled forward. The Crotch Scarf caused all kinds of unpleasant Sensations “Why did I not lock the Office Doors?†she cursed herself “I should have known!†The black-haired Woman hated to be a defenseless Victim. She would do something about that “If I get the Chance!†Rahel vowed to herself. She knew that Help was on the Way.
The Secretary felt that she stumbled on the floor ….
Anna was ready. The Elevator stopped; the Doors opened – the Russian looked along the long marble Floor; three Women stepped out of the Door. One was somehow handicapped: She stumbled.
She wore a headscarf, Shades, and a face Mask. Anna took Aim “Stop now!†she shouted in a clear loud Voice. One of the three Women whirled around, aiming a Gun at Anna “Lower your Gun, or it's one between the Eyes, Lisa!†Anna commanded. Her Glock not wavering but firmly trained at the other Woman. The Russian was sure to have a clean shot.
Chris was about to clear the last Stairs of the third Stairwell when she heard Anna´s Voice – loud and clear. She cleared the last Step and this she saw: Lisa aimed down the floor at the Elevator. Olga held a Woman wearing a Headscarf, Shades, and a Face Mask: Rahel!â€
“Lisa!†Chris called “You have no Chance! Either Anna will shoot you or I will!†Lisa whirled around “You!†Von Treskow´s PA spat. The Blonde smiled coldly “Yes, me!†She felt Ragna right behind her “If you get past me? You won´t get past behind Anna and Ragna!â€
Lisa looked to Anna, then to the Blonde. Behind her was another Blonde, which was even taller than the Pianist. Both had their Guns aimed at them. Firmly. Unwavering. Lisa realized: “We are screwed, but we serve a Cause … our Lives do not matter†“Stand down – or I will kill that Bitch! You would not dare to shoot me!†Lisa hurled at the other Blonde. She tried to sound calm and controlled, but Chris´ perfect Hearing told her enough.
Anna smiled “Try me!†Lisa whirled around and squeezed off a Shot. The Russian pulled the Trigger. Fired three Shots in quick Succession. So fast, they sounded like one. One Shot hit Lisa between the Eyes, the two others in her breast. Close to each other.
Lisa lost her grip, her Gun clattered to the Floor, and she crashed to the Floor. Olga faced Chris von der Marwitz – and the other Blonde. Their Guns did not waver.
“Lay down your Gun Olga,†Chris said calmly “You have a Choice. It is yours to make. We can protect you from your Boss. Sophie told me you are not a bad Person!†Olga turned and looked at Anna, who stepped nearer, her Aim true between her Eyes “Stop, or I will shoot her!†Olga shouted, “You won´t,†the Russian told her calmly. She had registered the doubt in the Bohemian´s Voice. This Woman would not shoot.
Rahel´s Captor stared wide-eyed at Chris and Ragna and back at Anna, then – very slowly, as if in slow Motion - she let Rahel´s right Arm go and laid her Gun slowly down on the Floor. She knelt and folded her Hands behind her Head, Fingers interlaced. And looked down at the black Marble Floor. The Air was heavy with Cordite and the copper scent of Blood.
Only barely Olga registered how the Pool of Blood around Lisa´s Head grew bigger ….
Rahel heard the whole Exchange. She stood still. Someone removed her Shades and then the Headscarf …. She sobbed with Relief. Someone touched her gently on her left Shoulder “It is Okay†a warm Voice said gently “You are safe now!â€
Robert´s Offices, 30 Minutes later:
They had freed Rahel. Chris had insisted on calling an Ambulance. But the Secretary had declined firmly “I must show you something, I have an Idea!†Chris and Anna looked at each other “Right then†The Blonde shrugged – intrigued. And at the same Time fascinated by Rahel´s Composure.
They followed the dark-haired Woman in Robert´s Office. Rahel walked to a Bookshelf – Chris recognized the Author. Goethe. The Complete Works. Rahel took a Volume out and leafed through it – took something out and turned: In her right Hand she held a thick Envelope of handmade creamy white Paper “It is for you Chris†she said softly.

Chris´ Face was a stern Mask as she took the Envelope, on it she read:
She knew the Handwriting. It was Robert´s. A Storm of conflicting Emotions raged inside her. Anna watched her best Friend. Chris did her very best to control her Feelings, the Russian knew. But she struggled hard. Chris needed Space. The Violinist looked at the Others and then at Chris “Chris, we will meet you outside later, shall we say 30 Minutes?â€
The Pianist looked up. Their Eyes met – and in those emerald, green Eyes Anna saw no hard feelings, but a “Thank you!â€. Anna, Ragna and Rahel left. As the Doors closed behind her Friends, Chris sat behind Robert´s Desk. She looked again at the Envelope—the black Ink. A small smile crossed her face “So he knew my full Name all along!†Chris shook her head, still smiling “We never talked about that!â€
She took the ancient letter Opener from his large wooden desk - made of polished Mahagony - with its hilt made of Jade. Chris hesitated. She scolded herself for her Weakness. It was just a letter. And it was not. Robert had written it by Hand. For her. The Blonde opened the Envelope and took the the Letter out, two neatly folded Pages of heavy handmade creamy Paper.
Chris unfolded them. Later the Blonde would not be able to tell what she felt, as she looked at the Letter, written in Robert´s familiar clear, elegant and precise Hand. Chris knew that the Lawyer used an old Pelikan Fountain Pen for Letters he wrote by Hand:
She took the first sheet and read:
Chris unfolded them. She took the first sheet and read:
“Dear Christine,
when you read these lines, I am dead. There were many things I wanted to tell you. Now I cannot do that anymore in Person. I regret this. Very much. You did not take my Calls after we broke apart at the Old Bridge. And in hindsight, I understand why you didn´t. It took me a while. I was very angry at first. I felt you behaved like a Teenager, a spoiled Brat. But with Time I realized:
You opened up to me – which does not come easy to you as we both know - and I hurt you very much. It took me a while though to understand you, how deep. You are not accustomed to defeat, Warrior you are. This is your Way; this is what you are.
To realize that being the Warrior and the Artist is no Contradiction. I needed Time. And when I did? It was too late.
I do not know if this means anything to you now:
Be assured of one thing: I loved you, I loved you truly. But I realized that only after we broke up – and then it was too late. I do not ask for your Forgiveness. There is none. It may sound pathetic to you. But I feel, our Love was not meant to be.
But the Past is the Past. I cannot do anything to change it. But I can do something to change the Present: You know about the Nordstern Trust. There are things you need to know ….â€
Chris continued reading.
Her face was calm.
But that was only the Façade.
30 Minutes later:
Chris stepped on the Pavement. It was a warm day in late March. Her Friends looked at her: Anna and Ragna and Rahel “Where is Natalie?†Chris spoke, cool, calmly – without Emotion “She cleared up Things with the Authorities – which saves us a lot of Trouble.†Anna returned- with a little smile.
She looked her Friend in the Eye “You do not need to play the cool seasoned Warrior with us, we are your Friends – we know that the last Days were tough for you. We are there for you, you know that.â€
For a Moment Anna thought Chris would lose control. She could read the calm serene Face well enough. But the Blonde did not lose control. The Russian noticed though the small Signs – which betrayed Chris's true Emotions. Anna knew them well. In her left Hand, her Friend held the Envelope. And if she was not mistaken? Chris´ left Hand trembled ever so slightly.
But Chris just nodded curtly “Let´s go! We have work to do!â€
At that Moment her Mobile signalled an incoming call. Chris did not know the ID “Yes!†she almost bellowed “So good to hear you, Christine!†a male voice said silkily. A Voice she knew “You do look beautiful†Chris resisted the Urge to scan the Area “What do you want?†She forced herself to reply calmly and controlled. She would not give him the Satisfaction. Not him.
“I missed you!†The Caller chuckled “We have much catching up to do! Since you declined my last Invitation so rudely!†“I doubt that.†Ragna had an idea about who Chris was talking to and admired her self-control. She knew the Pianist would not allow the Person on the other End to get under her skin. Not now. Never.
“You know†Chris smiled “You bore me to Death Carl†The Pianist chuckled “Why don´t you show your Face, and we continue where we last stopped?†Silence at the other End “I forgot†Chris´ Voice dripped with Disdain “You cannot face me in Single Combat anymore – you are a Cripple!â€
The Blonde knew she had scored a hit. Heavy breathing at the other side “We will†The Caller had trouble restraining himself “See again soon Christine! And you will pay! You and your Friends!†The Man paused – Chris heard him smiling - “Tell Sophie – I look forward to seeing her again. Her Recital was wonderful. Goodbye Christine!†The Caller hung up.
Chris looked at the blank Screen, then at her Friends.
It was Anna who spoke first “Von Winterfeldt?†Her Friend nodded curtly, with a grim smile on her Lips “Yes. Von Winterfeldt†She paused “I will end this Bastard this time. Once and for all.â€
Sternly Chris looked from one to the other:
“Let´s go!â€
Villa von Treskow around the same Time:
The Lawyer was nervous: Lisa and Olga should have been back by now with von Harenberg´s Secretary. Her Calls went straight to the Mailbox. The Redhead starred at the Screen of her MacBook.
A Ping signalled a new Message. She logged herself into the heavily shielded Network of the Organization. It was from Black Knight. She opened it. As usual straight to the Point. Two short Sentences: “Your People failed. Meet me in one Hour at the Merian View.â€
Von Treskow stared at the Screen: “Your People failed.†Black Knight requested a personal Meeting at short Notice, which was highly unusual. She fumed. The arrogant Bastard ordered her around like a Servant, which did not sit well with her. What did that mean? “Your People failed.†“Magda!†She bellowed into the Intercom.
One hour later: Philosophenweg - The Merian Blick:
Theda had been punctual. Normally she liked the view across the River at the majestic Ruin of Heidelberg Castle. Today she had no mind for it. Magda had helped her to dress appropriately: A scarlet red Dress that fell wide around her Calves – matching Ferragamo Heels. Fashionable Shades hid her Eyes.
It had cost her some effort to get here. The Taxi Driver – Theda felt not secure enough to drive herself – had been very forthcoming. Thanks to a generous Tip. He would wait for her.
The Lawyer glanced at her Watch, a delicate golden Cartier Piece: Two Minutes to 1300 Hours. Black Knight would be punctual. He was on Time, always. The Man was a Pedant. One of the Things von Treskow disliked.
From the Old City, the Clock of the Holy Ghost Church struck 0100 PM “Good Day von Treskow†she heard a well-modulated Baritone. The Lawyer forced herself to turn around slowly.
She faced Black Knight. A small ironic Smile curled his lips “You do look good! Rumour has it, Death was knocking at the Door.†Those Rumours were exaggerated†von Treskow countered flatly “What do you want!â€
Black Knight´s smile got broader: “Your People screwed up. Your PA was shot by Romanova and Olga was taken into Custody. Let us hope she keeps her Mouth shut!†Theda von Treskow kept a cool Façade “She will, she knows what happens to Traitors.â€
Black Knight smiled condescendingly “Your Judgement is not the best of late†He turned serious: “This that we will do: My IT Specialists found a secret Cloud of Robert von Harenberg. It was secured well, but no real Problem for a Professional.†He stressed the last Word.
“And?†Von Treskow ventured, seemingly undisturbed.
“Now, we will set a Trap.†Black Knight smiled smugly “And then we will recover the Material von Harenberg and end von der Marwitz and her Friends.â€
“What shall I do?â€
“You†Black Knight smiled arrogantly “You will sit tight and let the Professionals do their Job.â€
“Maybe I convince the Supreme Leader to overlook your abysmal Performance.†Black Knight chuckled “Maybe not.â€
“You make a mistake†von Treskow responded calmly “You underestimate von der Marwitz and her People.â€
They locked Eyes “You give that overrated Pianist too much Credit†Black Knight smiled – dismissively.
“Have a good Day!†Black Knight turned on his Heels and left.
Theda von Treskow fumed “Arrogant Bastard!†She stared after him.
Yes, Chris is someone who leaps without looking - this Situation is a good example.LunaDog wrote: 8 months ago Taking the odd risk is one of the reasons that Chris is so intriguing. And makes her exploits so enjoyable to read.

„To Christine Auguste Viktoria Wilhemine von der Marwitz.
Robert von Harenberg“
Robert von Harenberg“

Wheels within wheels and the mystery deepens.
I am intrigued to see how deep this rabbit hole goes.

Nice continuation. So there is someone behind Theda, who might pose a better challenge for Chris as she is on a winning streak. Also, poor Rahel. You do not treat her nicely.
I kinda love this typo

Sybil's Fingers flew over the Keyboard. She had seen Chris` perform very often. At Home and the Stage. The Blonde had told her once that her – Sibyl´s Fingers – moved as fast as her own when she played the final set of Beethoven´s Appassionata.
The Brunette looked up. Sybil, Sophie, and Ruth had reconvened at the Library – where Sybil had installed her Computers. A fire was burning in the modern fireplace. Sophie sat on the comfy brown leather Couch; her long legs slung under her. Thick black woollen Socks on her feet, black leggings a black Turtleneck.
The IT Specialist liked the Lawyer very much, how she carried on after such an Ordeal. The dark-haired Woman had her Lap-Top on her Knees. She was sifting through the Material Ruth had obtained from von Treskow´s Safe. Sophie kept Notes old School on a Pad. Her Speed was astonishing. Sybil suspected; that the Lawyer used some sort of Stenography.
And there was Ruth. The Investigator:
Ruth. The Woman still felt uneasy around Chris and her Friends. Sybil could tell. The Brunette had deduced that Teamwork was not easy for her. A Ping of one of her Computers interrupted her Musings ….
She opened another Frame and read. Sybil looked up: Sophie and Ruth were looking at her attentively “What is it?†Sophie inquired.
“Someone hacked Robert´s Cloud!†Sybil grinned.
“Tell us!†Sophie demanded, “Who?â€
“What do I get in return?†the Brunette grinned mischievously “A good Spanking if you don´t! Sophie smiled “A thorough one! You won´t sit too well for a while!â€
Her Tone had been stern – but Sybil knew that the Lawyer would not really spank her “Wouldn´t she? She would not!†The IT Guru told herself. She decided not to press her Luck “The Guy is really good, he is a Pro. He covered his Tracks very well!†Sophie smiled.
This Admission, coming from the bubbly Brunette, was high Praise “So you don´t know his Identity?†The Lawyer raised her Eyebrows “I do not know it - yet!†Sybil smiled “He left his Signature – surely he will try again†Her Smile grew devious “This Time, I will set a Trap for him!â€
Sophie´s Mobile rang. She took the Call “Yes Chris?†The Lawyer listened for a while “Right, we have News too! See you later!†The Pianist hung up “Chris has important News – she didn´t want to share it on the Phone though†The dark-haired Lawyer with Italian Roots explained “Clever Girl!†Sybil grinned “You know her!†Sophie smiled too, shifted on the Couch, and winced.
“You still hurt much?†The Woman with an MIT Doctorate asked concerned “Yesterday and the Day before were much worse†Sophie demurred “Chris Massage and that magic Balm did Wondersâ€
She smiled “I will need a few Days’ Rest I guess, if I can get them†The Lawyer paused “Chris was right, I would not have been fit enough for a fight†She turned to Ruth who looked intently at her. The Investigator was not very talkative and on her guard among her new Companions.
“Me neither!†she finally admitted, Sophie was surprised. Ruth had not said more than twenty Words since they had Dinner yesterday. With a feverish intensity, Goldstein had worked through the Papers they had recovered. The Pages were dusty, the Paper was fragile. They had to be decades old and typed with a mechanic Typewriter. The Language was German. Ruth had put on Cotton Gloves.
Sophie waited – but obviously, the Investigator did not want to say more. She focused again on the Papers in her Lap – and continued to read. Now and then taking Notes. Interestingly enough she used no Tablet or Mac Book. Instead, she wrote in an old-fashioned Notebook with a Waterman Fountain Pen, Ruth noticed.
Sybil´s and Sophie´s Eyes met. Sophie shrugged and continued reading on her Laptop. Sybil concentrated on her Computers and smiled deviously. The next Time the Intruder would sneak in through the hidden Backdoor into Robert's Cloud? She would be ready. The Hacker´s Signature had piqued her Curiosity.
Whoever it was he was good. But she had an Idea about that Signature …. In their Circles, one knew each other. Sybil was sure to know the Handwriting.
A small smile curled her lips … “The Game is on!â€
Police Headquarters Heidelberg – around the same Time:
In the Spartan Interrogation Room, the Air was stale. It smelled of old Sweat and Fear – and wet Socks. Old sweaty, wet Socks. Natalie thought. Natalie fixated the dark-haired Bohemian, whose hands had been cuffed to the Table “Your Name is Olga Sukowa, born in Bratislava on the 9th of June in 1998?†Olga just stared back. Natalie had tried several Approaches. None had worked so far. The Investigator exchanged a look with Max, who nodded almost imperceptibly.
The Czech had not said a Word so far. Stoically she stared at Natalie. Her Face, framed by a stylish Bop of shimmering brown Hair – an expensive Cut as Jungklausen noticed -betrayed nothing. She had not resisted in any way. Olga Sukowa had not displayed any Reaction at all. Natalie remembered what Sophie had told her about their Handlers: Lisa had been the Sadist, Olga the pragmatic – even empathic type.
Natalie was curious why the Woman did not talk. There was enough Evidence to bury Olga in an Eight by Eight for a very long time. But something kept her from talking. Natalie´s instinct told her something.
That the other Woman waited for something – or someone? Or out of fear of the Consequences?
The Investigator decided to change Tack:
“Look Olga, we have enough to bury you in Cell for Life! But I am good Friends with the DA, I actually could do something for you. I rub your back, you rub mine.†She stared at the Bohemian, who still showed no reaction at all. Natalie spoke coldly and clearly “You kidnapped two Women and tortured them! These are the Facts.â€
Olga just stared back - unmoved “She has Balls, I must give her that,†Natalie thought.
A knock at the Door interrupted them. An Officer entered “Miss Sukowa´s Lawyer is here†For the first Time Natalie noticed a Reaction of Olga. It was just a Fraction of the Second “She has no Idea!†Jungklausen concluded.
A tall blonde Man in a tailor-cut grey suit entered “His Hair Cut costs as much as mine!†The Detective mused. Natalie knew Dr. Herbert Althofen – from Court “Arrogant Bastard he is!†“This Interrogation ends here Frau Hauptkommissarin – I want to talk to my Client – in private.†He smiled condescendingly “You know the Rules Frau Jungklausen.â€
His tone did not harbour on Arrogance it was arrogant. Inwardly Natalie fumed but kept her Cool “Of Course Counsellor†the Detective smiled – and to her Surprise she noticed something in Olga Sukowa’s Face “Fear?†Natalie turned to Althofen “You have 15 Minutes!â€
Max followed her outside the Interrogation Room “Arrogant SOB!†she fumed. Max nodded “He is! But more interesting who pays him? You know his fees, Boss!â€
“I have a hunch!†Natalie huffed.
The Schwalbennest:
“See you again soon Christine! And you will pay! You and your Friends!†The Man paused – Chris heard him smiling - “Tell Sophie – I look forward to seeing her again. Her Recital was wonderful. Goodbye Christine!†“He said and ended the Call†- Chris ended her Summary of Today´s Events.
Silence greeted her Words “So he is back†Sophie said almost absentmindedly, gazing into the Distance. One had to know the Lawyer very well to notice the slight quiver of her rich Mezzo-Soprano “Yes†The Pianist said “And you are absolutely sure†Ragna inquired. The herculean Icelandress did not doubt her Boss and close Friend, but she had to know “I am†The other Blonde nodded curtly “I will never forget this, Voice.â€
Chris and Sophie exchanged a long Look. The Lawyer nodded ever so subtly, “Right.†The pianist straightened herself, “Most of you know von Winterfeldt´s Story, Rahel, and Ruth, you don´t—am I right?†Robert´s Secretary shook her Head. “Robert never talked about him.†Ruth Goldstein shook her Head. “I came across the Name during my Investigations—but I do not know much.â€
Chris looked inquiringly at Sophie “Shall you, shall I?†The Lawyer nodded decisively “I will†She turned to her Audience. Anna noticed how Sophie pulled herself together. The Violinist and the Lawyer shared a special Bond:
“In my former life, 18 Months ago†Sophie began “I worked as Leading District Attorney in Nuremberg. I was married to Lucas Reichenbach, the Son of Hermann-Carl Reichenbach, a very successful Businessmanâ€
She paused “And a cruel Sadist!â€
Sophie added cooly. As if she was stating just the facts. And not personally involved.
But a shadow crossed her Face. Her voice though betrayed nothing.
“I led two lives: During the Day I was the successful District Attorney with an impeccable Track Record. In the Nights I was my Father-in-Law´s Bondage Toy. He made my life a living hell. He blackmailed me: Either I would comply, or he would destroy my Career.â€
Sophie spoke like in Court when she presented a Case: Cool, detached, calm, measured, and controlled.
Rahel and Ruth watched her intently. “And what did you do about it?†Ruth countered, her Disdain palpable. “What do you think I did?†Sophie´s cheeks reddened. She looked the PI straight in the Eye. “Tell me what I should have done!†she demanded fiercely, challenging Ruth Goldstein. “What. Should. I. have done?â€
Sophie paused for a Spell. Her catlike green Eyes blazed.
“Risking my Job, my Reputation, doing what I was born for? Cersei Lannister´s Walk of Shame would be a Stroll in the Park, compared to what I would have had to face – if my “Crime†– became public Knowledge. So, I kept my Head down and endured, hoping the Nightmare would end someday. But it did not.†The Lawyer looked the Investigator straight in the Eye. Held her Gaze. Unblinking.
Ruth broke Eye Contact quickly.
Silence.
“Continue Sophie†Chris prodded gently. Such an outburst was not Sophie´s Style. Ruth had struck a Nerve. The Lawyer breathed in deeply, composed herself – and continued her Narrative as if nothing had happened:
“My Father-in-Law was an ardent Believer in the Nazi Ideology – I knew that much. Then came the Day when he had Anna kidnapped and tortured in his Dungeons – I decided. I knew what the old Bastard was capable of. I could not let that happen. If I wanted to look in the Mirror ever again.â€
“Sophie saved my life†Anna explained smiling warmly at Sophie – and the Lawyer blushed “I did what I had to do†she muttered – studiously looking at the expensive Persian Rug.
“You did the right thing,†Anna said gently “You just didâ€
Sophie composed herself for a Moment. She looked up, her Voice now calm and controlled again:
“To cut it short? Chris taught the Old Man a Lesson. That is the Point when von Winterfeldt came into play, he had my Father-in-Law killed and me abducted to his secret Stronghold near the Brenner – as I learned later.â€
“Why did he abduct you?†Rahel sounded intrigued “In his Opinion, I wasted my Talents in the Courtroom. He wanted to persuade me to join his Organization.â€
“To persuade you like von Treskow persuaded us?†Ruth interjected – again. She was determined, Sophie had to give her that.
“No,†Sophie replied quietly. Carl styles himself as a Gentleman of Old—at least he did.†The dark-haired Woman added, “To him, Force and violence are always a means to an end when other Tactics do not work.â€
“At least it was back then†Chris interrupted, sensing how difficult it was for Sophie to tell this Tale, even after all this time “Around that Time von Winterfeldt had me abducted and brought to his Lairâ€
“Why?†Ruth inquired intrigued. The Pianist smiled “Carl was obsessed with me†Anna chuckled “He was not the first†The Blonde decided to ignore the Remark “He laboured under the Delusion we were Soulmates – and he wanted me to play a lost Composition of Chopin for him – and for him only. He likes to collect beautiful Things.â€
“I had no Idea that Chris had been captured too, till a Maid told me†Sophie added “To cut it short? We performed the Concert†“It was quite the Show†Now Chris smiled warmly “ Sophie grinned “Chris seduced von Winterfeldt´s Chief of Security and we made our Escapeâ€
To everybody´s Surprise, the Pianist blushed but composed herself quickly “Anyway. In the Meantime, Kate, Sarah, and Anna along with two new Friends organized a Rescue Mission. We met halfway in the secret Tunnels. A few days later, we mounted an Assault and took von Winterfeldt out.â€
“Meaning†Anna smiled “Chris duelled him, cut his right Hand off – and took one Eye. We knew though he might come back to get his revenge though†The Russian added “He did try last May†Chris said, “But Anna saved the day!†“Since then, we heard nothing of him†Sophie provided “Till today.â€
“This is all well, but what did you find today?†Ruth Goldstein did not bother to hide her Impatience “The Past is the Past!†“We will tell you†Not for the first Time Anna admired Chris´ Coolness. The Violinist would have ripped off the Investigator's Head. But not the Blonde. Chris did lose her Cool seldom – Anna´s volcanic Temper was legend.
Anna had to smile: She remembered their first Meeting in Vienna so long ago: The Russian had berated her Pianist when Chris entered the Stage – not that the Pianist had understood a Word “Anna, Russian must be a wonderful language to cuss!†she had told Anna later though.
The dark-haired Woman concentrated again:
“Before that†Chris continued “Sophie will tell us about the Nordstern Trust. Sophie if you please?†The Lawyer smiled warmly “Gladly, Chris.†Goldstein was obviously not pleased but decided to back off – for the Moment at last.
During the next 20 Minutes, the Lawyer presented the Facts they had gathered about the Nordstern-Trust “Heinrich Himmler funded the Nordstern-Trust to guarantee the Survival of the Nazi Ideology even after the Doom of the Third Reich†Sophie explained “Today the Nordstern-Trust is a Worldwide Network, operating on a global Scale. Among the Materials Ruth secured†Sophie smiled at the Investigator “We found an Organigram. Not the real Names but Aliases only – we have good Reason to assume that von Winterfeldt is the CEO of Nordstern-Incorporated.â€
“Thank you, Sophie!†Chris smiled and turned to Ruth “You wanted to know what we found?†Many People found the Scrutiny of those emerald-green Eyes unsettling, but the Investigator just stared back “Sybil?†The Blonde nodded to the IT Genius.
On the Wall appeared two handwritten Pages “Robert hid the Information we need in these two Pages†Chris explained “I am at a loss, but maybe one of you has an Idea†Silence. “Faust I and Faust II†Rahel finally said “Yes†Chris nodded “But we have to find the Code to decipher Robert´s Message.â€
“Why don´t you let me have a go at it?†Rahel mustered all her Courage. She found Chris intimidating – even if the Pianist had not been unkind in the slightest. On the Contrary. The Pianist looked at Rahel, then at Sybil and a small smile curled her Lips “This is settled then Rahel, You and Sybil will do your best to decipher the Message.â€
She turned to Sophie and Ruth “You will do some more research.â€
“We†Chris smiled at Ragna and Anna “We will prepare an Ambush!â€
Heidelberg: The DA´s Office around the same Time:
A smile curled Heinrich Breuniger´s Lips. It was not a friendly smile. On the Contrary. It was disdainful and cruel. This Time von Treskow had really screwed up. He had never understood what von Winterfeldt had seen in her. It had to be something. The Chief had a knack for discovering People´s Talents. That much he knew.
But the Hardenberg-Case? The Lawyer had screwed up from the beginning. She had made the Mistake of underestimating von der Marwitz. Her People should have taken the Pianist out for good. Finally.
Instead, von Treskow had allowed herself to be played. Breuninger had to admit though that the Rescue Operation von der Marwitz had pulled off had been perfectly executed. A Part of him felt Pity. Felt Pity that the Artist had not killed von Treskow.
But he was patient. If he played his Cards well, he could use von Treskow´s Screw up to his Advantage. His IT-Specialist had informed him he had breached the Firewall of von Hardenberg´s Cloud. He would return for a closer look later. He was sure he had not left a Trace.
Breuninger´s private Smartphone—a heavily encrypted Model—signalled an incoming Message: “Check your Mails. Immediately.†Without obvious Haste, the District Attorney got up, put his Laptop into his black Attache Case, and left his Office. “Frau König, I am out for one Hour,†he told his Secretary.
Monica König was a Rubenesque Blonde in her Forties.. She was discreet, dependable, and absolutely loyal. “Of course, Herr Breuninger,†she smiled at him. What would I do without you?†The DA returned the Smile. He knew Monica had a Crush on him, and he used that to his Advantage.
He left the Building – and walked the Rohrbacher Straße.
He knew the perfect Location to check his Messages: The Bergfriedhof. A lot of famous People found their resting place there: The first Chancellor of the Weimarer Republic: Friedrich Ebert, Carl Goerdeler, famous for his Resistance against Hitler – and Wilhelm Furtwangler, one of the greatest Conductors of all Time. Breuninger chose a Bench not far from Furtwangler’s Resting Place. It was a warm day late in March. At this Time of Day, he had the Place all for himself.
He opened his Laptop and powered it up. Since it was heavily shielded, he needed five different Codes. A Ping signalled he was in. The DA opened the Messenger and read. The Message was clear: “Eliminate those two Targets. Do not hesitate. Awaiting your Confirmation. Immediatelyâ€
Breuninger typed his response, one word only: “Understoodâ€
The Order had come from Winterfeldt itself. This was his, Breuninger´s Chance.
He took his Smartphone and dialed.
The Schwalbennest:
“You brought everything I asked you for with you?†Ragna smiled. You know me, Chris.†They entered the Garage. In a Corner stood several heavy black metal-made Crates, customary for Military Hardware. “We plundered the Armory,†Anna supplied. So, what do you have in mind, Chris?†The Blonde´s smile was outright evil. We will set a trap and lure von Winterfeldt´s People here. The Terrain is perfect! Think of Vienna!â€
Anna´s Smile got broader. Back then? During the Hunt for the Weinstein Collection Chris, Anna, Kate, and Sarah had ambushed von Winterfeldt´s Valkyries in the Park of Schloss Schönbrunn – with devastating Results.
“Ragna, Anna help me!†Chris pointed to the Crates “I can lend a hand too!†The Blonde turned around. In the Doorway of the Garage stood Ruth “I have studied enough old Papers today “And I have a score to settle†the Brunette added “Be my guest then!†The pianist smiled “Another Pair of Hands is always welcome!â€
The Library:
Sophie tried her best to focus on the mouldy Papers Ruth had obtained from von Treskow´s Safe. But concentrating felt difficult … von Winterfeldt was back. She was not shocked or shaken. The Lawyer was not the same Sophie she had been 18 Months ago.
Her learning Curve had been a steep one.
She remembered the first Conversation she had with the Tycoon at his Stronghold in his Stronghold in the Austrian Alps near the Italian Border. Following the original Plans, the Adlernest had been a Replica of Schloss Oberschleißheim near Munich.
The historical Schloss Schleißheim had never been completed – the Adlernest had been.
Her mind wandered back, to the faithful Meeting:
“So, Sophie†von Winterfeldt spoke after he had taken a sip of tea, "Why don´t you tell me something about you? Why did you choose a career as a District Attorney and not as a lawyer?â€
And so it began, von Winterfeldt moved effortlessly from one subject to another, from the latest decisions of the Federal Constitutional Court to the latest Tizian-Exhibition in Berlin. Von Winterfeldt was a brilliant conversationalist:
He discussed the finer points of complex matters of law equally competent as when he talked about Thomas Mann´s famous novel Dr. Faustus, in which the Music and a Pact with the Devil were key Parts.
It cost Sophie enormous effort not to forget that this was not a pleasant invitation to tea, but that she had a conversation with the man who had ordered the execution of her father-in-law and her abduction. However, she admonished herself to be patient and bide her time.
Out of the blue von Winterfeldt asked her: “Sophie, I heard that you had considered a career as an opera singer before committing yourself to the courts of law, why is that?â€
This question surprised Sophie. Very few people knew that she had studied music. She still took lessons twice a week, but becoming a professional musician had never been an option for her. How von Winterfeldt had found out?
She pondered the question: “I love singing and I love the law, but the music is something for me only. It is private, it is personal.â€
Von Winterfeldt nodded: “I understand.†“You sing Mezzo Soprano don´t you?†Sophie was surprised a second time, where was this conversation going, she wondered.
“Sophie, you would honour me deeply, if you would sing for me tonight. I would accompany you personally†He smiled his dazzling smile.
[…]
Sophie had sung for him. And now she had to smile. With her Choice of Music? She had delivered a Message. And von Winterfeldt had understood, what she had been telling him, by singing Handel´s Aria: Piangero
The next Day von Winterfeldt had offered her a Position in his Organization …...
“Believe me Sophie†von Winterfeldt replied “Your many talents are wasted in the courts. I see you absolutely as qualified to lead Reichenbach Enterprises. But there is more; I´m sure of that.â€
Sophie looked expectantly at him. The Tycoon continued: “Your Service for the State and the People in your current position is honourable, but did it ever occur to you that as CEO of Reichenbach Enterprises, you could do much more for the public?
“In what way could I do that?†Sophie worded her reply carefully. “In many ways†von Winterfeldt replied. “You could influence political decisions, you could shape Society, or you could promote young and promising artists, musicians as a benefactor – and together we could do much more, and this, what I want to propose: “If we join forces, we will multiply our Powers, the synergy-effects would be immense. We live in a globalized world and if we want to change anything, we must work together.
Even in hindsight, Sophie had to admit that von Winterfeldt had made a compelling case. She had been tempted – somewhat. What had fascinated her back then? The Man had Vision, even if she did not share it. But he had Charisma, an Aura. It had cost Sophie considerable Willpower to resist the Temptation.
What had she learned about the Devil? He had perfect Manners and was well-educated. He was charming – and had no hoof. And radiated no heat. No, von Winterfeldt had radiated Coldness. Icy Coldness. Under the Surface of the well-educated Gentleman.
Their final meeting half a year later had been far less than cordial: In May, after the first Stage of the Hunt for the Lost Scrolls von Winterfeldt had tried to get back at them: He had planned to abduct her, Sophie, and dismember Chris.
Anna had saved the Day in the last Second:
Revenge is a dish best served cold: 2 by Imhotep-Ra on DeviantArt
“[…] Freya was on her Guard. As she entered the Floor she froze “You!†she snarled at the other Woman who strode at her “Me†her Opponent smiled back “Did you miss me?†“You will join your Friends in there soon!†Freya spat
“Somehow I doubt that, but why don´t we give it a try?†Anna´s smiled ominously “How is your Boss? Must you bind his shoes and wipe his Ass?â€
“Fuck you! Her Opponent snarled “Thanks for the Offer, but you are not my Type!†Anna provoked her Adversary further.
Both Opponents were poised to strike. Each woman waited for the other to attack first – Freya attacked first. The Russian though stepped swiftly aside so that the Stroke missed its intended target.
Driven by her own Energy the Valkyrie lost her footing. Anna´s knee hit her full force on the chin, the other Woman stumbled backward. The Russian followed through with a brutal kick against the Breast of her Opponent with her left heel which sent her flying. She crashed hard on her back.
Like a whirlwind Anna let a lightning-quick barrage of strokes follow. When she rose, the other Woman did not move anymore “Don´t say I didn´t warn you†she told her unconscious Opponent. […]â€
“Everything fine Sophie?†Sophie was startled and looked up: Anna had come in. The Russian could move as stealthily as Chris. She had made no sound on her stockinged Feet “I am fine†the Lawyer demurred “I just thought about things†The Violinist smiled knowingly “I understand†“What did you do outside, Chris said you were preparing for an Ambush†Anna smiled, that Smile Sophie knew only too well “We did prepare an Ambush – Carl will not know what hit him!â€
“I see!†Now Sophie smiled too. She liked that Idea. Very much so.
“Tell me more about that Ambush†Her Smile was devious. Once Sophie had seen von Winterfeldt as the Chevalier, he styled himself. Not anymore. Since his Attempt to abduct her a second time, to maim Chris – the last Ounce of Sympathy for him was gone. Even if he had not given the orders – what Sophie doubted – he was responsible for Robert's Death and her and Ruth's Torment. He should rot in hell.
The more Anna told her. The more Satisfaction she felt.
Carl – or his Men would be in for a Surprise.
And then Chris would go right for the Jugular. The Lawyer did not doubt that ….
The former Tycoon had a blind spot. He still seemed to see Chris as the great Musician, the beautiful Woman she was. The Pianist was much more than that. He should know.
Sophie smiled.
“You have no Idea Carl ….â€
Chris Suite:
The Blonde looked at her Watch. It was late in the Afternoon. Ragna and Anna were busy in the Kitchen. A Roast was in the Oven. Venison. Local. Anna had told her. Along with Red Cabbage and Potato Dumplings. One of Ragnas Specialities. In Chris's Opinion, nobody made them like her Friend. A heavy red Wine from the Palatinate would go with it: A Saint Laurent.
Till Dinner, she had almost three Hours at her Disposal. All was set: The Ambush was prepared. The Trap in Place. Sybil and Rahel would crack the Encryption of Robert's Letter. They would get there. Rahel had surprised them all: With her resilience and commitment. Sophie was on the mend – though one or two more day´s rest would do her good.
Von Winterfeldt´s call had Chris not left shocked and shaken – as he had probably hoped. She had been surprised but on the other hand. They had always known that von Winterfeldt had neither forgiven nor forgotten. His Attempt on her and Sophie last May had been plain enough.
“I have to thank him,†the Blonde thought as she looked deep in thought out of the large Panoramic Window of her Suite at the surrounding Forest. Since arriving at Heidelberg Chris had felt like a blind man stumbling through thick Fog. Stumbling through a Swamp.
They had only reacted to an unknown Enemy´s Moves. From Robert´s Murder to Sophie´s and Ruth´s kidnapping. Now though, now they had a real chance to wrangle the Initiative from their Opponent´s Hand. Chris intended to make the best out of it.
They had made the first Steps. Now, that their Enemy had a Face, Chris felt it easier to focus, to concentrate. Yet the Tension she had felt from the Moment she had entered Robert´s Office? It was still there. Meditating long had not helped. Something she was not used to.
But there was a cure, the Blonde knew.
Chris looked at the Materials on her bed. That she resorted to Selfbondage was seldom. She enjoyed the fight for Dominance. Sarah was good at this, Ragna and Anna too. But today Chris decided not to ask Anna or Ragna but to do the deed herself. A smile curled her Lips: The Blonde had fashioned her long shimmering Mane into a tight Bun.
Her Hands glided above the smooth Fabric of the blue Spandex Catsuit she wore. Underneath she had donned a Pair of nude Hose. But there were Modifications which escaped the Eye: Chris had inserted a torpedo-styled Vibrator in her Vagina. Sarah had presented her with the latest Model of Jolly Roger the last time, the Canadian had visited them in Hamburg.
From the Bed Chris took the first length of soft white cotton Rope and wound a Rope Girdle tightly around her Waist. She pulled it tight. The Blonde selected another preknotted Rope and fastened it behind her Back. Chris pulled the knotted Rope sharply upwards and tied its end to the Rope Girdle under the Navel. The Pianist inhaled sharply. That felt so good, all the Knots were in the right Places. A soft Moan escaped her lips.
At Times Life could be easy. The simple Things mattered.
Chris sat down on the Bed, took another Rope and tied her Ankles together. 15 Minutes later her long muscular Legs were confined by six symmetrical neat Ropebands: Ankles, Calves under the Knees. Above the Knees, Midthigh, at the Top of her Thighs.
The Pianist tested the Tightness of the Ropes. They were perfect. Two little Details to add: With a thin string of Rope, Chris tied her big Toes together. The final Piece: A Ropeband around her Insteps.
She looked down at her nyloned Feet: The purple Nail Polish shimmered through as did the two golden Toe Rings on each Foot. Chris smiled: Phase one was complete.
The figure eight Breast harness was next. She sighed contentedly. She let her Hands glide above her Breasts: The Harness compressed her Bossom nicely. Chris was proud of her full and firm Breasts. What had the Dark Lady once said: “Blondie you have one the most beautiful Assets I know!â€
The Blonde smiled: Sarah was right!
What now? First the Gag and then the Encasement? Or first the Encasement and then the Gag? Decisions, decisions ….
The Blonde smiled: Chris moved her Feet up and down and spread her Toes as much as the Ropes allowed.
She made a Decision:
Chris followed her Instinct: Encasement first. From the Materials on her Bed, she selected several Pairs of nude Hose, extra-large ones. The Pianist took the first one. Pulled it over her nyloned Toes. Then upwards. It took some effort, but finally, the Blonde had pulled the Hose upright to under Breasts. With a smile the Pianist took the role of Tape: Over each Rope Band Chris wound the Tape six Times.
This Procedure she repeated two more Times. Another Pair of Hose. And Tape.
The Blonde loved the Sound the Hose made each Time she rubbed her Legs against each other. That squishing sound. Chris flexed her feet and wiggled her toes as much as her Restraints allowed. They were tight but felt somehow comfy as well.
Chris smiled. Now for the Centrepiece: The Gag.
Chris had a fairly big mouth as Sarah always teased her. She had selected four Pairs of Panties. Used ones. Her own: Black, blue, red, and green. The Pianist took the first one – the blue one – and stuffed it into her right Cheek.
The red one in her right Cheek … but there was room for more. When was she done? Her Jaws stood ajar. Chris mumbled something. The silencing effect was already good. But she was far from finished.
On her right side on the Mattress laid a Role of translucent Tape ….
Twenty wraps later: Chris let her hands glide about the smooth Tape. Her Jaws were ajar – and under the Wall of Tape, the Packing was clearly discernible. She had to smile. A silken Scarf would be next. One with a Paisley Muster. Its basic colour? Green. So long was the Scarf, Chris could wrap it three Times above her lower Face easily. She pulled it tight at every turn.
Her breathing got faster. The Blonde selected another Pair of Hose. She had worn it days ago. When she was finished Chris breathed in deeply: The Hose´s Crotch Panel covered her Nose. Excitement filled her. The Tension left. Chris smiled under the Gag.
There were several silk Scarves …. She would put them to good use. One across her gagged Mouth. One tied as a Headscarf. And the final one as a Blindfold. She searched for the heavily padded Manacles. They had a Time Lock, after two Hours she would be released.
Chris enjoyed the sensory deprivation. She pressed the button on the remote control.
Jolly Rodger sent Shockwaves through her Body.
Quickly she lost any Sense of Place and Time ….
Chris flexed her feet and wiggled her toes as the Vibrator did his Job. The Orgasm hit her … she flew, she rode the wave …. She pointed her Toes, her Body got rigid. Her Eyes rolled back into her Head.
She screamed into her packed Mouth … Nobody heard it though: Chris had a pretty good job gagging herself.
Later:
Anna had felt her best Friends Mood. Chris had acted calm and controlled. At the Rescue Mission and Today. But the Russian knew the Blonde well enough. True, Chris had acted calm and controlled. But Anna knew that Chris was tense under the calm surface: The serene, beautiful Features which looked so much like one of the Masterpieces of the great ancient Greek Sculptors.
After they had prepared the Ambush, Chris told Anna “I need some alone time. Come for me in two and a half Hours!†She had looked at her Watch, which was an exact Copy of the one the Russian wore. With one noticeable difference: Anna´s Watch had a small Scratch on its Glass: A reminder of the Bombing Attack in Egypt. Which caused Chris to believe that Anna was dead.
It had devasted her. Chris had told her much but not everything. But Sophie, Kate, and Sarah had told Anna about those terrible Days. While she had been the proverbial Bird in the Gilden Cage? Chris had suffered a serious meltdown. It had needed Sarah to get her back:
The Hunt for the Lost Scrolls: Chapter 69 by Imhotep-Ra on DeviantArt
Today, Chris had been at Times absentminded. But at her best when it counted. Anna tapped along the Corridor on her stocking feet “I need some Time alone†Chris´ face had been unreadable. But Anna had a suspicion …
She halted before Chris´ Door. The Violinist was about to knock at the massive Mahagony Door. Something made her stop. Her perfect Pitch identified soft Moans. Moans of a Woman. A Woman in heat.
Anna smiled “I knew it!†She did not bother to knock. The dark-haired Woman pushed the door handle down and stepped over the Threshold. A broad smile crossed her face “Chris, Chris – you really did a Number on yourself!â€
Obviously, Chris had not heard her just recovering from a thundering Orgasm. Her long legs were tied and sheathed in Hose. Her best Friend wore a Spandex Cat Suit. Her firm and full Breasts were framed by a Breast Harness of white cotton rope. The Blonde´s Hands were probably tied behind her Back. The Air was heavy with Arousal.
Chris´ Head was obscured by Hose and by Silk. She still was on the way down to Earth, her impressive Chest heaving. Her Moans of Pleasure were heavily muffled. She had not noticed Anna entering.
A devious Smile crossed Anna´s Face as she looked at the Materials next to Chris … “You did a really good Job Chris! But I think we can improve your work!†Anna strode to the Bed and jumped on the Mattress.
Chris´ Body bounced “Mmmpfh???†she mumbled questioningly.
Anna let her hands glide above Chris´ nylon-encased Soles – which caused an instant reaction. Her giggle was heavily muffled “You did a good job†Anna padded Chris on her nylon and silk-covered Head “But I think we can improve that, what do you think?†Chris´ response was unintelligible – but obviously, she did not share that Assessment.
“Don´t get your Panties in a Twist!†the Russian grinned “I will release you in time for Dinner. Chris´ mumbled Complaints fell on deaf Ears. Resolutely Anna turned Chris around – and slapped the Pianist on her Butt. Once. Twice. Thrice. Chris clearly did not approve. Judging by her heavily mumbled Protests.
The Russian grinned “We have to do something about your Wrists and Arms!†She took some Ropes. When she was finished the Blonde´s Arms were welded behind her Back. Symmetrical Rope Bands adorned her Arms: Wrists, between Wrists and Elbows, below and above the Joint.
Anna had ignored Chris´ Protests. She had tickled her Friend´s Feet thoroughly for five Minutes and slapped her on her firm Butt some more. Now Chris laid still, breathing heavily. Testing her new Restraints.
“We are not finished!†Anna announced. Chris was clever enough to keep her Silence. Her Soles burned still from the relentless Tickle Attack. Her best friend knew every sensitive Spot and had used that Knowledge to her Advantage. Between the Toes was Chris Achilles Heel. And Anna knew that.
“What will she do next?†She wondered. Chris had not long to wait to find out “Comedian!†she mumbled. The Violinist let that slide. Instead, she took several large Pairs of Hose. Manhandling her Friend into them was no easy Task. Chris was stubborn like a Mule. She twisted around like a Fish on dry Land. Like an Eel. A slippery Eeel.
Anna was patient though. The occasional Tickling, or pinching of Chris´ Nipples, or her Nose helped. 20 Minutes later the Russian looked down at the Mattress.
“What a wonderful Mummy you are! Don´t you think Chris?†The Blonde mumbled something in her packed Mouth “I take that as a Yes!†The Russian chuckled. She took the Remote Control and pressed two buttons. Not only did Jolly Roger spring to life: Anna had taped two vibrating Eggs against Chris´ nyloned Soles.
“You are making the cutest Noises!†Anna grinned as she looked down at Chris´ Nylon encased Body “What do you think about some Nipple Clamps?â€
Chris did not like the Idea. Skillfully the Russian manipulated the Blonde´s Nipples ere she applied the Clover Clamps.
“Two more things to do!†Anna grinned down at her best friend “You can still move too much – and you are still too noisy!†Of course, Chris did not share that Assessment …
“Are you kidding me?†She mumbled.
Anna set to work …
Chris was about to go mad …. The vibrating Eggs were devious. And the devilish Jolly Roger … She felt Anna winding another Band of Tape above her Insteps … what did the Russian in Mind? …. Obviously, Anna taped her Soles back against her Ankles: Flexing her Feet was now out of the Question.
But her best Friend was not done. The Blonde felt that Anna tied her encased and tied Legs to the Footboard. Among the Materials on the Bed, Anna had spotted a very large white skiing Sock …. As Anna tied it above Chris´ lower face – including the Nose the Pianist shook her Head – but the Russian held fast. Now Chris chewed on ripe Panties, inhaled the Sweat of the Stocking tied around her lower face, the Pantyhood, and the ripe and sweaty Sock on Top.
The Mix was – to put it mildly – intoxicating.
Anna looked gleefully down at her best Friend. A soft knock at the Door interrupted her. “Come in!†The Russian did not bother to turn “Hello Merit!†The young Egyptian smiled. You called Mistress?â€
“I did†Anna smiled “Come!†she said and pointed to the Bed where Chris was moaning and writhing on the Bed, as much as her Bonds allowed. The young Noblewoman stepped nearer and took a closer look. She let her Hands glide above Chris´ Soles. The Blonde´s Giggles were almost inaudible “You did a good Job Mistress!†Merit smiled “Thank you!†The tall dark-haired Woman smiled “Your Mistress needs your Services Lady Merit!†The Egyptian looked at her Mistress and smiled “I am at your Service!†The Russian wore a red Turtleneck, white Leggings, and thick red woollen Socks.
Anna pointed at the Materials next to the tied and gagged Pianist “This is what I want you to do!â€
30 Minutes later:
“Are you pleased with my Work Milady?†Merit stepped back from the Bed. The Violinist mumbled something, which could count as Confirmation:
Anna straddled Chris. Her Ankles were tied to the Blonde´s muscular Tigths. Her red Socks were missing. Where were they? Merit had packed them into the Russian´s Mouth. Anna´s gag was – more or less – a copy of Chris´
Anna´s Arm´s were tied in a chicken wing Tie. Of course, a crotchrope did not miss. Merit had to smile as she watched the Scene unfolding before her: Both Women were grinding their Groins against each other.
The Egyptian was pretty sure the two best Friends were totally oblivious to her Presence. Gently she closed the Door behind her. Mistress had ordered to release them in two Hours. She tapped down the Corridor and the curved Stair Well and went into the Kitchen, where Ragna was stirring in a Pot. Heavenly Scents filled the Air. She noticed the prepared Dumplings on a wooden Board. Anna had shown her how to make them.
Merit had needed a while to get accustomed to the different Cuisine here in Europe. But she had adapted quickly “Are they having fun?†the herculean Icelandress smiled “I guess so†Merit walked nearer to have a look at the Pot “That smells heavenly!†she sighed “I hope so!†Ragna chuckled “Chris and Anna will be very hungry later! Want to help me with the Salad?â€
“Of course!†Merit smiled.
Unknown Location at the same Time:
Had Chris´ Arch Nemesis known she indulged in Selfbondage. He would have scoffed. But he did not know:
Carl von Winterfeldt gazed out of the large Panorama Window across the Neckar. At the Philosophenweg. “Heidelberg is such a beautiful City! On this, we can agree!†A small smile curled his lips “This we have in Common, Christine†Heidelberg had a special Place in their Hearts. Absentmindedly he touched the Scar which marred his handsome features.
The Plastic Surgeons he had consulted had told him, that nothing could be done about that Scar. Chris´ Sword had cut a line across the left side of his Face. From the Forehead to the Chin. Von Winterfeldt remembered the Pain, the Agony only too well.
Back then? He had not expected that Chris would escape, that she would mount an Attack on the Adlernest. He had not thought her being capable of such Violence. The Blonde played the Piano as few People could. If he thought back to that Concert when she had played the Chopin for the first Time?
This had been such a marvellous display of artistry on the highest Level. The Katana she wielded with the same Precision and Skill.
That the same Woman would wage war upon him? Dismember him. Disfigure him. He had not expected that. Back then. He knew now he had been infatuated. Christine von der Marwitz had bewitched him like Circe had Odysseus “At least she had not turned me into a Pig!†he smiled ruefully.
But he had learned his lesson. His first attempt to get back at Christine von der Marwitz had failed. Despite the meticulous planning. Had it not been for Anna Alexandrovna Romanova? He would have succeeded.
He had already looked forward to getting Sophie in his Hands.
And to pay Chris back the Pain, the Shame back. With interest. And Romanova too.
That had not worked out – till now. If Fate had taught him anything it was Patience.
This Time he would succeed.
He would get Sophie back. Made her sing for him daily. And before that? He would kill Christine von der Marwitz and her Friends. All of them. Or no! Maybe he would force the Lawyer to perform in Chris´ Presence. Made Sophie watch when he tormented the Pianist …
Chris von der Marwitz had defied him. Had dared to humiliate him. Him. Carl von Winterfeldt.
A cruel Smile curled his Lips:
“You will pay Christine!â€
Detention Center, Heidelberg:
Olga Sukowa stared at the Ceiling. It was blank. It was white. That Lawyer? She had not expected him. She had not asked for a Lawyer.
In his tailor-made suit, his polished Brogues, his expensive haircut? He exuded Menace. Well, hidden behind his Appearance. But Menace, nevertheless. After he had introduced himself? They had talked. He had advised her in no uncertain terms to keep her Mouth shut. He had been polite. But the Menace had been clear.
Since then, she had stared at the Ceiling of her Cell. The Pictures did not leave her: Romanova telling Lisa to stand down. Lisa refusing. Romanova shooting. Three rapid Shoots sound like on. Lisa crashed to the Floor. The Pool of her Blood on the Floor. The Splatters of Brain and organic Matter at the Wall. Von der Marwitz had told her “You have a choice. I know you are not a bad Person. Stand down!â€
The Blonde had aimed right between her Eyes. And Olga had no doubt: She would have not hesitated to shoot her. But she sensed something different too: The Blonde would not shoot her without a reason. And so, Olga had laid her Weapon down on the Floor …...
The opening of the Cell Door interrupted her Musings “Dinner!†the Officer entering told her and set the Tablet down on the rustic Table in her Cell “Enjoy!†His Smile was unpleasant Olga thought. But she was hungry ….
The “Stew†– she hesitated to call that brownish Mass a Stew – it tasted bitter.
“At least we fed our Captives well!†she thought – as a sharp Pain cut through her innards ….
The plastic Spoon clattered to the Floor, as her Fingers lost Grip ….
13th Precinct Heidelberg Police:
Nikola Jungklausen was pissed off. Really, really pissed off. Royally pissed off. The DA had put down her request for a Search Warrant for Theda von Treskow´s Premises. Flatly. Smiling that arrogant smile of him, she despised so much.
That smug Son of a Bitch … Breuninger and her had never been best Friends. Never would be probably. She could not stand the Guy. The Way, he had looked her up and down …. It had given her the Creeps. Like a Predator his Prey. And Natalie was many things “But I am not Prey!†she vowed.
She would not give up. Natalie did not trust Breuninger as far as she could throw him. Natalie remembered something von der Marwitz had said, that von Treskow probably had an Informant in the System. She had dismissed that thought in the first Place.
But now she was not that sure anymore …. What if ….
A thought crossed her Mind … She would have to check this …. This would make really Sense …...
“Max follow me!†She ordered her Assistant “We have to check out something. Natalie was out of the Office before Max reacted. He hurried after her. He knew his Boss well enough. Natalie Jungklausen had one of her “Hunches†– as she called it.
Jungklausen did use the Stairwell. Max had trouble following her. She almost jumped down the Stairs. They exited Headquarters. Something caught his Attention: A reflection on the Roof across the Street. A Reflection meant … his subconsciousness reacted faster than this Brains “Down Natalie down†He did not hear the Shot, two Shots actually … he bodychecked his Boss to the Ground. At the same Moment he felt a terrible Pain, like hot Iron in his left Shoulder ….
He felt Natalie´s Body under him – then he blackened out …

The Heidelberg Affair - Troubles of the Past
Chapter 10:
“The Jokerâ€
Schwalbennest, around the same Time:

You made us wait a while for this latest chapter, but, as will come as a surprise to nobody, the wait was well worth it!
Wow there is a lot to unpack here.
We see the players moving about the board, hints of there strategy, that are little more than fragments. I must say, i am looking forward to von winterfeld getting trounced again, but will he be wiser and more cautious, or more deadly and less playful. I am hooked

So we see that old baddie von Winterfeldt again. That was quite a surprise, mostly that I am surprised that he is still alive and should have definitely have the power to attack Christine if he had wanted. I also thought that this would be one of your shorter stories, so another giant boss seemed a little far-fetched.

Thank you for your comment @Beaumains - you pose some interesting Questions. Von Winterfeldt was never gone completely. He tried to get back at Chris and Company in "Revenge is a Dish best served cold" - that attempt failed, thanks to Anna, in the last possible moment. Obviously he decided to lay low afterwards. And it seems this time he just just the Opportunity presenting itself. If he gave the Orders to have Robert killed remains unclear to this Point.Beaumains wrote: 7 months ago So we see that old baddie von Winterfeldt again. What we do know: Theda von Treskow is part of the shadowy Nordstern-Trust. She may have acted on her on accord by killing Robert. She underestimated her Opponents though. And this might be the Moment were von Winterfeldt saw an Opportunity to get back at Chris and laying his Hands on the Materials Robert has hidden.
Somehow I cannot do "short"

Natalie Jungklausen paced restlessly on the Floor. Now and then she stared at the Operating Theatre´s Doors, her white Sneakers making squelching Noises at every Turn. Max was still in surgery. Five Hours already.
Max´s Fiancé, Josephine, was sitting on one of the plastic chairs in the waiting area, staring with red-rimmed eyes at the floor. The petite brown-haired younger Woman worked as a Lawyer in one of Heidelberg´s most prestigious Lawfirms. Rumour had it, she had the Talent for a brilliant Career.
She had the Physique of a Runner: 163 cm in her stockinged Feet. Josephine and Max ran Marathons in their Spare Time. At the last Heidelberg Marathon, Max Fiancé was among the top 30. Normally dressed in Power Suits and High Heels, she wore yellow Sneakers, Blue Jeans, and a wide-falling red Top.
Sneakers, Top and Socks did not match. Natalie suspected Josephine had just slipped on the first Pair of Shoes she had found – after she had learned of Max being shot. The Lawyer kept herself together – but barely. The Strain had to be enormous. The Investigator knew.
Jungklausen continued pacing the Floor and did not mind the Bloodstains on her Top and Jeans. Max´ Blood. He had been hit twice: One Projectile was embedded in his -Chest, and the second pierced his right Shoulder. The Investigator knew only too well that both Shots had hit her instead of Max if her Assistant had not tackled her to the Floor. And covered her with his Body.
How could it have happened in the first Place? Had it not been for Max's quick reaction, she might have been dead. That Moment when the second Projectile hit Max Body? She had felt the Impact. Her Assistant´s Body had twitched, then gone limb.
Max still lived …barely.
Olga Sukowa had not been that lucky. She was dead. Oliver Rettenberg, the Medical Examiner, had informed Natalie about his preliminary Findings. The Czech had been poisoned that much was clear. Rettenberg suspected a rare Poison – but that had not been proven yet.
Natalie smiled. Rettenberg had a Crush on her. Of late he had begun writing. And pretty successful. In one of his Crime Novels, he had used Natalie as a Character. A rather good Portrait she found – even if she had been angry at first. He had invited her even for Dinner in the best Italian Restaurant in 60 Kilometres Radius: The Ai Portici … what a coincidence. The same Restaurant von der Marwitz and von Treskow had met.
“Don´t tarry along!†a small Voice in her Head whispered, “The Past is the Past!â€
Natalie focused:
Poison? That struck a Bell …. Christine von der Marwitz …. She had poisoned von Treskow too, to rescue the Lawyer and Ruth Goldstein … Poison …. Someone had resorted to the same Method. Whoever was behind it? He had reacted swiftly and ruthlessly.
Jungklausen could kick herself: She had not informed her new Allies. Natalie pulled out her Mobile, left the Waiting Area, and dialed …
The Schwalbennest: Chris´ Suite:
They had called it a Day early. After Dinner Chris and Anna had given an Impromptu Concert. The Bechstein Grand Piano had been perfectly tuned and Anna made her Lord Dunn Raven sing: They had played Beethoven´s Spring Sonata, in F-major, and Grieg´s third Violin Sonata in C-minor.
The Composers third and final Violin Sonata – one of Anna´s Trademarks. Chris and Anna had played together so often on so many Stages – but the Russian´s Tone never let her unmoved. To her, the Violin´s warm Sound was like a human being: Anna´s Soul.

Christian Tetzlaff - Grieg: Violin Sonata No. 3 in C Minor, Op. 45 - Leif Ove Andsnes
At Half Past Eleven, they had retreated to their Quarters. For the first Time in the last Days, Chris had fallen asleep quickly in a deep and dreamless Sleep. Around Midnight, the Vibrations of her Mobile phone woke her up.
From one Moment to the next Chris was fully awake. After a quick look at the Display, she took the Call “ Natalie?†Nobody listening to her would have suspected she had been asleep 10 Seconds earlier.
Concentrated the Pianist listened “Alright Natalie if we can do anything tell us. I will inform the Team.†The Blonde ended the Call and stared into the Distance, her Eyes green Ice shards of Ice: “Carl you bloody Bastard!â€
Anna´s Suite 10 Minutes later:
Anna´s left Hand rested on Merit´s full and firm nylon-covered left Breast. Her Lady-in-Waiting snored softly. Anna had turned the young Noblewoman into a Nylon-Encased-Mummy. Not that Merit had objected. She had insisted on being encased three Times. At some Point, they would have to talk Anna had decided. At Times the Devotion of her Lady-in-Waiting went a bit far. Merit had even insisted on a large Gag: A large yellow foam ball in this case.
Anna was not asleep but not fully awake either. She heard something – and groaned …â€I hate that! Why can´t I have a night of decent sleep!†The Russian knew that sound, the soft Steps outside meant trouble. She pulled the Covers over her Head “Go away!†she mumbled.
The Door of her Suite was opened gently, Chris stepped over the Threshold.
The Pianist wore her emerald-green silken PJs, thick woollen Socks, and a green dressing Gown “Go away!†it mumbled from under the Covers. With slight Amusement, Chris looked at the Bed “Anna come out or I get a bucket filled with cold Water!â€
The Russian groaned. Slowly Anna´s Head appeared “Damn it†… Anna switched the Lamp on her Nightstand on, pulled her Covers aside, and stood up – in one fluent Movement – Merit did not wake up. Chris was fascinated: That was Anna.
“I hope you have a damned good Reason!†Anna grumbled, “It is Midnight!â€
“10 Minutes after Midnight to be exact†Chris corrected the Violinist mildly “Wiseass!†Anna grumbled.
The Blonde smiled mirthlessly. She knew Anna “I do have a good Reason – actually two!â€
The Violinist knew Chris´ Expression: “Trouble?†Her best Friend nodded “Olga Sukowa was found in her Cell. Dead. Max, Jungklausen´s Assistant was shot - two Times. He is in Surgery still.â€
Chris paused for a spell. She felt sorry for Max. She had handled him roughly she knew. The Blonde hoped he would make it.
Anna´s Voice brought her back to the Present:
“Von Winterfeldt wants to play again,†the Russian stated calmly. “Obviously,†the Blonde confirmed in that cold, calm Voice “Rouse the others, Anna. We meet in the Library!†A small smile—coy—curled her Lips. “Let Merit sleep!†she pointed at the sleeping Nylon Mummy. “I will!†Anna grinned mischievously.
“And I still hate you!†she accused her best Friend.
“I will have to live with that†Chris smiled “Off you go!â€
“Right then!†Anna fetched her red silken Gown and slipped her Birkenstocks on “I want Coffee, lots of it! Black. Strong. Hot!â€
But Chris was already gone.
The Library, 10 Minutes later:
Chris looked from one to the other: Anna was suppressing a Yawn. The Russian nursed a Cup of the strong black Coffee – Sophie had brewed. Anybody knew that the Violinist needed at least a Cup of Coffee to get going. Especially in the Morning or as now -in the Heart of Night.
Anna was still grumpy.
The Pianist shot the Lawyer a Glance “She looks remarkably well rested†the Blonde noticed. Ruth´s Face was unreadable. Sybil and Rahel had cuddled together on one Couch. They waited all for the Pianist “I apologize to kick you at this Hour out of Bed – but something has come up!â€
Anna mumbled something and took another Sip of her Coffee.
In the cool and precise Manner, that was characteristic of the Pianist, Chris informed the Team about Natalie´s Call.
A moment of Silence greeted her Report “We have to prepare then as fast as possible.†Sophie concluded, sipping some of her own Coffee “We are ready for him†Chris savoured the Taste of her Green Tea, which was imported from Japan by a Hamburger Tea Dealer, especially for her.
She paused, taking another Sip from the delicate Japanese China, which travelled always with her:
“It cannot hurt though to beef up the Defence some more though.†The Blonde added thoughtfully “I can help with that; I made some Calls.†Anna spoke for the first Time. Chris´ Eyebrows shot up “Meaning?†“That my Friend!†the Russian smiled mysteriously “Is a Surprise†The Pianist noted that Ragna and Anna exchanged a look, the Look of two Conspirators.
Anna enjoyed this little game very much, and Chris knew.
She decided to let it slide and turned to Sybil and Rahel “You must make Progress on that Riddle Robert left us.†The brunette Sybil smiled “Rahel had a very interesting Idea – I think that will work.†The IT Geek that looked so much like Chrissy Marie padded Rahel on her left Thigh “Rahel is brilliant!†she beamed at Robert´s Secretary “Thank you†the dark-haired Woman demurred – and blushed to Chris´ Surprise. Something was going on between the two.
“The Trap is set Sybil, right?†Chris inquired.
“It is†Now the Woman with a Doctorate from MIT smiled wolfishly.
“Good†Chris nodded “We will continue tomorrow. Go and get some Rest, we all have to be well-rested for the Days to come!â€
The Pianist concluded the Midnight Meeting. Later, after the Events? Chris was surprised she slept well that Night.

Somewhere in Heidelberg around the same Time:
A blonde Man in his late Fifties played a Grand Piano. A Steinway. Late Piano Musik by Brahms. His Prosthesis was very good. The best one could buy for Money. He even had tactile Feeling in the artificial Fingers. He scoffed. Not the Touch he had once had. Chris von der Marwitz robbed that of him. Too bad his first Scheme to get back at the Pianist had not worked as planned. If it had? Chris would have lost her right Hand too. A cruel Smile curled his Lips. But this Time he would leave nothing to Chance. His Operatives had reported to him what had happened in Hamburg:
“[…] “We will have some additional fun together first before we part Ways – that means: Dear Susanne and dear Sophie will be packaged up nicely and secure – you know the Enhanced Restraining System: those nice and cozy restraining bags – and transported back to our Boss – he can´t wait to see you again – especially you Sophie and you –" she turned to Susanne von Stülpnagel will rue the day you decided to betray the Boss: I can assure you he has Plans, big Plans to make you pay.
She turned to Chris:
“As for you Miss von der Marwitz: Our Boss has ordered that we leave you here– but take something from you: He wants your right hand – and no need to worry, we will sedate you before we cut it off - locally at least – if you behave. If not? –well, you won´t want that … We are under orders though to ensure you life through the procedure – your left Eye we cannot take with us, but that can´t be helped – so we will do the same you did to the Boss: Use a knife to cut through it – that will leave a scar I fear
The Transport arrives in two Hours – till then let´s have some fun!â€[…]â€

Von Winterfeldt stared out of the Panorama Window.
But the best-laid Plans … were Plans. Only Plans. Olga Sukowa was dead. Another loose End severed. That troublesome Investigator still lived. Instead, her Assistant had been hit. That was another Problem he had to take care of.
Heinrich Breuninger had done a good Job. Theda von Treskow though had been a disappointment. Failure was not acceptable. But Carl von Winterfeldt saw something in the Lawyer. He was not heartless. She would get a Chance to atone. If she failed again? He would have to think about a more permanent Solution.
He would have a Talk with the Lawyer after Operation Tartarus had commenced.
He suppressed a Curse. He made an Error. The Accord had not been perfect.
“Christine you will pay, you will pay!â€
His Smile was cruel and hard now.
Heidelberg, the DA´s Office next day, early morning:
Heinrich Breuninger was an early riser. He had done his five-mile morning run, like every morning. Now it was 0700 AM. Breuninger enjoyed these early hours of Day. The early Morning it had a special Beauty. The Softness of Light. The awakening of the sleeping City.
He powered his private Laptop up. The DA was in good Spirits. Olga Sukowa wouldn´t pose a risk anymore. Alas, Jungklausen had been lucky. Why did her Assistant have to play the Hero? With the right guidance, the young Man might be an Asset. If one showed him the right way. Breuninger smiled.
To his Surprise von Winterfeldt had not been angry about the Failure. He had just reprimanded him mildly to be more successful the next Time. And he would. The DA had already taken the necessary Steps. This obnoxious Investigator would not pose a Problem for very much longer. Of that, he had taken care.
He opened a Message, read it, and smiled: The Muses were kind to him: His IT-Specialist had found something very interesting. The Boss's Order what to do in that case had been clear. Very clear. Breuninger typed a Message “Proceed as planned. Execute Orders for Operation Tartarus immediately.â€
The DA closed the Frame, shut down his Laptop – and smiled maliciously:
“Today will be a fine day!â€
The Schwalbennest around 0800 AM:
Chris nursed her Green Tea. Anna, Ragna, and she had done their morning run – even if the Pianist had to kick her best Friend almost out of the Bed. Anna Alexandrovna Romanova was many Things: But she was no Morning Person. And after their Impromptu Midnight Meeting, the Russian was even more grumpy than usual.
The Pianist couldn´t resist the Temptation: She had challenged Anna. She was increasing the Tempo several Times. The Russian had shot her a dirty look – but kept up easily with Ragna and her.
Now the dark-haired Violinist was devouring a large Helping of scrambled Eggs and Bacon. Her second. Chris smiled. That was a good sign. While they had made their Run, Sophie, Sybil, and Rahel had prepared Breakfast. Ruth had declined to take her Breakfast with them – she had insisted on having it in her Room.
The Investigator had offered no Reason. The Pianist had decided to let it go. Ruth had not talked much, and they could only guess what had happened at von Treskow´s Dungeons. The Brunette had proven though very adept at handling the Equipment to prepare for the Ambush.
She would be an Asset in a fight.
Chris smiled. Sybil had informed her before Breakfast, that the Trap she had designed worked “Carl you are in for a Surprise!†“What are you smiling?†Anna grumbled, “It is way too early in the day to be so cheerful!†The Blonde smiled even broader “You will learn soon enough Anna Darling!â€
The Russian mumbled something not very polite.
“I heard that! Grand Duchesse!†Chris scolded her Friend mildly.
The Doorbell interrupted them to Chris´ entire surprise. She had not heard a Car driving up the curved Driveway nor had anybody “Who is that?†The Blonde demanded and fixated Ragna and Anna. The Russian and the Icelandress smiled – decidedly mischievous Chris decided “Surprise, Chrissie Darling!†Anna grinned.
They locked Eyes. Finally, Chris relented “Go, get them!†“Of course!†Still smiling Anna got up – and left the spacious Dining Room “You knew!†Chris accused her Lady-in-Waiting “Who, me?†the Icelandress smiled perfectly innocently.
“Yes, you!†Chris was not amused. They were interrupted by Anna returning with the Newcomers in tow. Two black-haired Women, both tall and athletic. The older of the Duo, in her early Forties, wore her gleaming black Hair in a stylish Bop. The younger one, in her early Thirties, wore her curly black mane in a Ponytail.
Both Women enjoyed Chris´ Surprise very much “Chris looks like someone has hit her over the Head very much, a Bludger perhaps?†The older Woman smiled at her Companion “Maybe†the Younger smiled “I would say though it was a Hammer!â€
“Are you done?†Chris had risen and crossed her Arms under her Chest. Clearly not amused.
“Are we done, Mistress?†Natascha Bolkonskaya smiled coyly at Sarah McKenzie “We are Kiddo!†the Canadian smiled. The Pianist still stared hard at them – then she smiled warmly “How did you get here?†“Well,†The Black Lady smiled, “Some People thought it a good Idea to lend you Bunch a Hand with our old Buddy Carl!â€
“We wouldn´t want to miss this Party!†Natasha grinned.
“So†Chris raised her Eyebrows “Wouldn´t you?†smiling innocently “How is your Education going?†The Pianist asked casually. To her Satisfaction, Bolkonskaya blushed slightly “Well†Sarah McKenzie smiled broadly “Natasha makes for a fine switch!â€
And slapped Natasha on her butt.
The Russian was not angry. She smiled instead “Thank you for the reward, Mistressâ€
“Why don´t you sit down, and have some Coffee and a decent Breakfast?†Sophie interrupted “I think you could use one.†The Lawyer smiled “And you can tell us poor clueless Folks what you are doing here!â€
The Canadian smiled like a Cat devouring the Cream “That sounds like a splendid Idea Sophie!†Sarah knew Sophie´s Coffee was one of the best in the World. And if the Lawyer had prepared the Breakfast? It would be glorious! She looked at the scrambled Eggs, the Bacon, the fresh Butter, the Bread – and sighed.
“Then tuck in!†Sophie smiled “Have a seat!â€
Chris turned to Anna “We will have Words later!†The Pianist stared at Ragna ominously “We will as well!â€
Then her stern Expression grew soft – and she smiled at Sarah and Natasha. The Russian was helping herself to a steaming Pot of hot Coffee, the Canadian smiled at Anna “Pass me scrambled Eggs, you had enough!â€
“Me?†Anna pouted “You,†Sarah McKenzie said firmly.
Chris and Sophie exchanged a look: They enjoyed the Exchange. And Chris was not angry – not angry as in angry - on the contrary. In the upcoming fight, Sarah and Natasha would be really an Asset. The Blonde smiled: Sarah had still a Score to settle with Carl von Winterfeldt.
The Tycoon had hired the Canadian in the first Place to frighten off Chris and her Friends from searching for the Weinstein Collection. But Things had played out differently. Instead, the Masterthief had changed Sides after Chris had spared her Life and von Winterfeldt betrayed her. The Canadian had fulfilled her Debt – and Chris knew that Sarah had not forgiven von Winterfeldt.
So, yes, the Blonde was happy to have Sarah and Natasha on Board. Natasha was a different Story. And Chris preferred not to dwell on their first Encounter – back then in the Dungeons of the Oligarch Boris Oblomov:
“[…] 20 Minutes later the blonde found herself balancing on the balls of her feet. Her ankles had been shackled one meter apart. Her arms were shackled high above her head. A large ball gag jacked her jaws apart with glee the Russian had stuffed her panties in her mouth before she forced the large red ball into Chris´ mouth.
Natasha took in the sight before her “It is incredibly hot here†she smiled ominously and took off her uniform jacket and her bra – Chris had to admit that her bosom was impressive she walked to a rack, where all sorts of whips and other instruments of torture laid. She took one, and Chris could not see which one till Natasha turned around “You know what a tonfa is right?†The blonde stared just back and steeled herself.
Slowly the Russian strode nearer, till Chris could sense the heat of the other woman. Natasha let the smooth wood glide above her skin, between her breasts, touched her nipples gently, she touched the soft muscular flesh of Chris's inner thighs above the knee, glided upwards “You know†Natasha whispered “Tonfa can be pleasure, and it can be pain. What will it be?†Her stroke hit the blonde´s inner thigh right under her groin – a sharp pain shot upwards into her brain. Chris steeled herself for the next blow ….â€

But the Russian had proven her Mettle and come to her Aid out of her free Will in an Hour of Need. The greatest Need. In a desperate Gamble to save Anna:
The Hunt for the Lost Scrolls: Chapter 72 by Imhotep-Ra on DeviantArt
Yes, Chris was glad that Sarah and Natasha were here now.
She nursed her Green Tea. And looked into the Distance. Life was strange: Mortal Enemies become what? Friends?â€
Chris had to smile. Her Sensei would have reprimanded her for those philosophical Excurses.
“Focus on the Task at Hand Christine Sama†He would have scolded her.
“Hai Sensei! I will!†She said softly in Japanese.
Chris took another Sip of her Tea and smiled.
Heidelberg, around 0830 PM, Natalie´s Apartment:
She was dead tired. At 0200 PM in the Morning, Max had come out of Surgery. He would come through. Natalie had been incredibly relieved. Her Assistant had been pale. Sweat covered his Face. The Investigator had insisted on staying at Max's Side “This was all your Fault†a small Voice kept telling her “But you had had Max shadow that Pianist – you had not done that? Nothing would have happened to him!â€
Josephine had been grateful she stayed at her Side. Her Parents were on an Overseas Trip to South Africa and would not be back before tomorrow. Natalie had expected that Max´s Fiancé would be cross with her. The Lawyer had not been entirely comfortable with her Assistant´s Line of Work, working in Homicide.
But instead, Josephine had hugged her and cried at her Shoulder – something Natalie felt uncomfortable with on principle. People getting emotional – even if she was used to it. Delivering unpleasant News was her Job as a Homicide Detective.
But Max was much better at this Part of the Job. One of his Qualities she admired. And now he had saved her life. The small Voice had a Point: She had pursued her Vendetta against the blonde Pianist for selfish Reasons. Without that, Max would not have been shot.
Natalie had stayed at Max´s Side till 0700 AM. Then her Boss, Erster Kriminalhauptkommissar Leonard Burckhardt had arrived. She got along well with him – mostly. He was competent, stern, and demanding. And had no Tolerance for any Bullshit “You go home now Natalie! Freshen up! Get rest!â€
Jungklausen was about to argue, and Burckhardt raised his Hand “You want to get to the bottom of this. I get that.†“But Sir†“Don´t Sir me Jungklausen! I need you fully rested!†Natalie was about to argue again. Her Boss did have none of that “I don´t want you to see in the Precinct before tomorrow 0900 AM tomorrow. This is an Order Hauptkommissarin Jungklausen! You get me!â€
“Yes Sir!†Natalie muttered sullenly “I did not hear you!†her Boss repeated, “Yes Sir!†Natalie stared angrily at him, fuming with anger – she turned on her Heels and stomped down the Corridor.
Burckhardt looked after her and smiled. Natalie Jungklausen was a Maverick. But she was a first-class Investigator. Tenacious like a Bulldog, with fine Instincts and a brilliant Intellect. He went to the Intensive Care Unit.
Natalie was dead-tired and still fuming. She knew her Boss had been right. And she could use a Change of Clothes, a Shower, and a good deal of Sleep. The Investigator opened her Door and stepped over the Threshold, kicking the Door shut with her left heel with a bang. Louder than necessary.
She kicked off her Shoes and tapped on stockinged feet down the Corridor. Without thinking she undressed, carelessly she threw the Garments on the Floor. She felt dirty and sweaty. Natalie inhaled the coppery Scent of Blood and the salty smell of old Sweat.
The Investigator unhooked her Bra, rolled down her Panties, and stepped into her Bathroom. The Tiles felt warm under her Feet. Natalie showered as hot as she could bear. After what seemed like an eternity, she stepped back into her Bedroom – a Turban on her Hair, clad in only her favourite scarlet red silken dressing gown, her favourite comfortable red ABBA-Style Clogs on her feet. She loved them.
The Shower had done her good. She stopped dead in her Tracks. There was something in the Air. Something different. A Scent. A Scent of Cedar and Irish Moos. That moment of Hesitation saved her life. She realized later. The long gleaming blade missed her by a Fraction of an Inch. She stumbled back. Those damned Clocks! She cursed.
Her Attacker was clad entirely in black: A Baclava and a black Combat Dress. Tall, muscular – and quick. Very quick. Natalie escaped his next Stab barely “Enough of that!†She scolded herself. She had no Weapons. She was almost naked. She kicked the Clogs off. Now she felt more secure on her bare feet.
The Man in Black wasted no Time. He lunged again. Natalie´s stroke hit his wrist. Hard and precise. Her Attacker cursed and the knife clattered to the floor. But kept coming. Her kick hit him at the Chest. Now he stumbled back. Now Natalie saw something in his dark Eyes. Surprise.
“In for an Asskicking free of Charge Asshole?†She hissed at him “Pussy!†The Man in Black stormed at her …
Later:
Natalie was breathing heavily. She stared down at the lifeless body on the Floor. His Neck was askew. In an unnatural Angle “Surprise Asshole!†she smiled maliciously. It was the Adrenalin speaking. Natalie knew she should have called her Boss first. But she dialed another Number.
The Person at the other End took the Call. “It´s me,†Natalie said, trying to get her Breathing under control “What is it?†the Woman she called said in a cool, calm, and controlled Manner, which was her Trademark – one of them. Natalie found that Tone comforting—in a strange way. “I was attacked again,†the Investigator said as calmly as he could. The Person at the other End noticed the slight quiver though.
“Tell me†Chris von der Marwitz said.
And Natalie Jungklausen told her.
The Schwalbennest, 1000 PM, the Library:
Sybil and Rahel stared at the Projection on the Wall. The Program Sybil had written was working “Will it work?†Rahel inquired “It will†The Brunette smiled “Your Idea was brilliant, and this little Program will do the Rest, believe me!†Her right Hand touched – accidentally she told herself – Rahel´s left. Her Skin was dry and warm – and she did not pull her Hand away.
In amazement, they watched the large Screen. Letters swirled around, forming Words and sentences. They dissolved again, and new Words formed. This happened for several Minutes. Finally, the Program stopped working: Three lines appeared on the Screen. Words. Numbers.
Sybil smiled “There it is†she whispered amazed “What is it?†Rahel whispered back “These are Coordinates Rahel†The IT Geek grinned “These are Coordinates – and a Location!â€
“I was right!†Rahel chuckled “You were right!†They high fived. Looked at each other – and laughed.
Rahel's Idea had been simple: It had occurred to her that the Solution was easier than they thought. Robert must have been sure that Chris or anybody else would be able to decipher the Message. At some point, Inspiration struck Rahel: What if? What if was that simple? That one Text was the Code to decipher the other?
The Schwalbennest around the same Time at the Terrace:
Ruth watched. Never she had seen something like this. True. Ruth still struggled with the Situation at hand. She did not resent her new Allies. But the concept of Teamwork. To work together. It was not easy for her. Ruth Goldstein was no Teamplayer. She never was. What hurt her most? Her Opponents caught her red-handed. That hurt. That she had to rely on the help of Chris von der Marwitz and her Team had hurt too.
She could not deny though that the Pianist did an outstanding job saving her, Ruth, and Sophie. The latter had impressed her. No doubt. But Ruth still felt uncomfortable among her new Allies. That was not a personal Matter. This was just her.
The Investigator stood on the Terrace and watched: The blonde Pianist was doing Tai Chi on the Grass. Dressed in a green skintight Spandex Suit. Barefoot. Ruth shuddered at the Thought. Christine von der Marwitz wore her shimmering smooth blonde Mane in a tight Ponytail. Ruth could not help herself. She was fascinated; This was a Dance. The Moves were elegant, effortless, and smooth.
“This is quite the show†a Voice spoke behind her “Isn´t it?†A slightly hoarse Alto Voice. Ruth whirled around and faced the older of the black-haired Women. Her Eyes are black like Coals. A small ironic smile curled her full red lips. Ruth had not heard the Woman coming “It looks like dancing†the Investigator concurred. She noticed the way how the Thief followed Chris´ Exercise with the View of the Professional – but there was something else.
Her cold keen Eyes rested on Chris´ athletic body: The full Bossom, the long strong legs. There was something between the Blonde and the Black. Ruth had noticed a certain Tension between the two Women – no, more like Electricity.
Chris had finished her Tai Chi Exercise – a Series of Martial Arts Kata followed. Ruth could not help herself; she was impressed against her Will. She considered herself fairly good in Judo, Karate, and Jin Jitsu – possessed even the second Dan in Judo. But what the blonde Pianist did was another League “This is just a Warm-Up†The Black Lady added – she had noticed the Expression on Ruth´s Face.
“You wouldn´t want to get on her bad Side – and if Chris draws her Katanas …...â€
Finally, the Pianist had finished her Exercise-Regimen. She bowed a final Time towards East, held the Pose for a Spell, and walked across the Lawn at them “She doesn´t even sweat!†Ruth thought to herself. The Blonde brushed off her bare Soles slipped her Birkenstocks on and closed the Distance.
“Her Smile is enigmatic†Ruth concluded and again she noticed the Undercurrents between the Pianist and the Thief “It is always fun to watch you!†the black-haired Canadian teased the Blonde, her Eyes resting for a Spell on Chris´ Bossom “I know why you like to watch Sarah!†The Pianist smiled back “Not watching would be a Crime!†the Canadian grinned “In for a Walk later?â€
“Why not†Chris nodded, still smiling “She has been through a lot in the last Days,†Sarah thought to herself “Even if she does her best to cover it†She noticed the Signs. Few People would have.
At the same Moment Sophie hurried down the Steps to the Patio, her Mobile in her Hand. The Lawyer smiled like a Cat who had devoured the Cream. Chris and Sarah exchanged a look as Sophie approached them “Sybil and Rahel have cracked the Code!â€
Chris´ Expression betrayed nothing, she just nodded “Sophie, why don´t you bring Sarah and Natasha up to Speed – while I freshen up?†With long strides, she walked the Distance to the Entrance Door and vanished inside “How is she holding up?†The Canadian looked at the Lawyer “Chris is doing her best, you know her†Sophie shrugged “The last Months have not exactly been easy for herâ€
“I know†The Thief added “That´s why I am asking†Sophie knew, that behind the Façade of the cool, calculating, ruthless Master-Criminal was a beating heart in that cold Chest. Even if the Canadian did her best to hide that “She is getting better†Sophie explained as they walked to the Entrance “And since the Enemy has now a Face, she will do what she must. What did Ragna and Anna tell you?†The woman with the catlike green Eyes changed the Subject.
Now the Thief smiled that diabolical, mischievous Smile which could one the Creeps “That von Winterfeldt showed his ugly Face, and that you could use some back-up. Why don´t you tell me the Rest?†The Canadian paused “You have obviously prepared for a Defence.†She grinned “And an Ambush!â€
Sophie smiled “We have - listen ….†The Lawyer explained.
Somewhere in Heidelberg around the same Time:
Heinrich Breuninger looked at his Guest. They had met at a secret location. The Man wore an expensive dark grey Suit. He reminded him of Jack Nicholson as battle-hardened Commander of the American Marines at Guantanamo Bay. It was clear this Man was used to wear Uniform instead of expensive Suits. He radiated Power. Power, Authority, and Ruthlessness. Absolute Ruthlessness.
His cold grey Eyes were those of a Snake ready to strike. Former Spetznaz Colonel Arkadi Semjonowitch, Breuninger remembered “The Devil of Palmyra†his Enemies dubbed him. After resigning from the Army, he worked now for the Smerch Group. A private Contractor who filled in where regular Troops did not dare to tread. Or their Governments thought it best to outsource the dirty Work.
Oleg Petrovsky Smerch´s CEO hired former Russian Soldiers mostly. Elite Troops like Spetznaz or Paratroopers. Semjonowitch had brought several of his former Troops with him. Breuninger cleared his Throat “The Boss wants you and your men to execute Operation Tartarus this Night. He wants this Problem to be dealt with – with all necessary Force.â€
Breuninger added, “As silently as possible – we do not want to alarm the Police.â€
“This will be easy†Semjonowitch smiled wolfishly in his heavily accentuated English “My Men will enjoy this, Job.â€
“I have no doubt,†Breuninger thought “Herr von Winterfeld has given specific Instructions: He wants you to kill all the Women you find after you raped and mutilated them – repeatedly. He wants you to make Christine von der Marwitz watch. When you have killed everybody else kill her too. Make it slow. My Boss wants several Items collected for him: Von der Marwitz's two Katanas, Romanov´s Violin – and von der Marwitz's Head and right Hand. And record all that.â€
“It is a pleasure to do Business with your Boss. He will not be disappointed.†Semyonov stated.
“You do not better disappoint him†Breuninger mused after the Soldier had left. He knew von Winterfeldt not that well. But from what he had learned: The Tycoon had changed. Cruelty for Cruelty´s Sake? That was new, his Sources told him. And the List of Enemies? It was long. On a certain level, Breuninger felt pity for the pianist and her people.
Not that he would tell anyone – especially not von Winterfeldt. The latter had invited him this Evening over for Dinner and to watch the Execution of Operation Tartarus – and drink a fine Whisky like Gentlemen along with it.
Hotel-Pension Berger – Heidelberg: 1200 PM
Natalie Jungklausen was restless. She stared at the ceiling of her Hotel Room. Her Flat was a Crime Scene. After her Statement had been taken her Boss ordered her to keep a low profile and organized this Suite in the small Hotel. He even wanted to post an Officer before her Door.
That Natalie had firmly declined “I can take care of myself!†she had snapped at Leonard Burckhardt. Burckhard knew how boneheaded his subordinate could be – and sighed “Right, have it your way then – but keep your Head down, and don´t leave the Hotel.†Her Boss stared at her “If not absolutely necessary!â€
A Safe House had not been an Option. At least Natalie had convinced Leopold they had a Mole. And she had a shrewd Guess who. That Guess she had kept for herself. The Investigator trusted her Boss – but he would have never believed her, not without a shred of Evidence – just her Guts, her Intuition.
Now she lay on the Bed and stared at the beige Ceiling. She could not just sit around on her Hands and doing nothing. Jungklausen had to do something. Finding out who wanted her killed. She doubted it was von Treskow. The attempts on Sukowa, Max, and her were professional jobs. There was some higher up in the hierarchy pulling the strings now. Von der Marwitz and her Team had so far had not been able to identify the Mole.
A sly smile curled Natalie’s Lips: There was one who knew though. Time to pay her a visit. The rational Part of her mind told her “This is foolhardy! You really think von Treskow will tell you anything? You waltz right into the Lion´s Den! What would Max say?†“I am doing that for Max!†Natalie huffed “Liar!†The Voice whispered “Be honest! Natalie Jungklausen cannot allow herself to be bested!â€
“F*ck you!†Natalie grumbled.
The Detective jumped from the Mattress ….
15 Minutes later she was on her Way to von Treskow´s Villa. Natalie Jungklausen was resolved to wrangle the Truth out of von Treskow. Literally if necessary. A grim Smile curled her Lips. Safely out of sight, she parked her metallic red Mini Cooper and walked with long Strides up the Driveway which led to the massive Gate of the Lawyer´s Estate. It was surrounded by a high and massive Stonewall, made of yellow Travertine. The brown-haired Woman looked at her Mobile. She had accepted von der Marwitz's Offer to provide her with a new heavily encrypted Phone:
Four Calls in Absence: Three from Burckhardt and one from Sophie Reichenbach. Natalie ignored all four – and stopped in her Tracks. She still wasn´t best Friends with the Lawyer – but she somehow admired the Woman who looked so much like the young Sophia Loren. Jungklausen did not advertise that freely, but she had a Crush since Childhood on Charlton Heston.
Heston and Loren had been such a wonderful Pair in El Cid …
Resolutely, the Detective banned these Images in the back of her Head—“Leave her at least a Message!†the small Voice whispered. You could use backup, maybe!†Natalie sighed. You won´t shut up anyway before I do that, right.†She typed a Message to Sophie Reichenbach and pressed “Sendâ€
“That wasn´t that difficult?†The Voice smiled. Natalie decided to ignore it and continued her Way to the Gate. She noticed some Cameras on the Wall – and looked straight into the Camera Lens above the Keypad. She pressed the Bell Button. Time passed.
Finally, a deep Alto Voice asked “Yes?†“I like to speak Theda von Treskow†Another short Pause “Frau von Treskow receives no Clients today†Natalie smiled “Oh I think she will make an exception for me†and presented her Badge to the Lense “Wait!†The Voice told her. At least two more Minutes passed – then the Gates swung open, almost noiselessly.
Natalie Jungklausen stepped over the Threshold and walked up the curved paved Driveway. She felt Excitement and something different …. All her Senses were unnaturally sharp and alert. Briefly, she stopped before the Portico with its five Doric Columns. The Detective pulled herself together and walked up the four Stairs.
Her trusty red Sneakers made no sound on the Floor. She smiled: Well-worn Jeans, a black Metallica Top, and a vintage Leather Jacket Max had presented her with for her last Birthday “And it is for you Max, I am here!â€
The massive polished wooden Door was closed. Natalie waited. Someone wanted to play Games. No surprise here. As skilled Interrogator, she knew all the little Games. Another Minute later the Door swung open, and in the Doorway stood “Brienne of Tarth†– The blonde Woman in the Maid Costume was a Giantess “How tall is she?†Natalie thought “As tall as Ragna!†But their Height and Stature were the only Similarities between the two Blondes.
The Blonde wasted no time with pleasantries “Follow me†she said curtly and turned on her Heels and walked down the imposing Entrance Hall. She didn´t bother to look back, so Natalie followed the Amazon. Behind her, the Door closed automatically with a soft click “I told you this was not a clever Idea†the annoying little Voice whispered.
Natalie noticed that to the left and the right several Doors opened. At the Eastern End of the Hall, her Guide knocked firmly at another Door. “Brienne of Tart†opened the Door and walked in. The Investigator followed her and stepped into a large Room. Large Panorama Windows allowed an unobstructed View to the other Side of the River.
Against her Will Jungklausen was impressed. This was obviously the Saloon “Frau Jungklausen†The Blonde introduced her to the red-haired Woman sitting in a comfortable Armchair. She closed the Book she held on her left and laid it on the round Table before her “Dostoyevsky†she explained “Excuse me Frau Jungklausen that I remain sitting – I am not that well†The Lady of the House turned to her Maid (?) “Maria, bring the Tea please!â€
“Of Course, Madam†The Giantess turned and left, and Natalie was surprised at how swiftly the Woman moved “Why don´t you have a Seat?†the perfect Host, von Treskow pointed to the Chair across her.
Never leaving the Lawyer out of her Eyes, Natalie sat down and crossed one leg over the other. She noticed the smallest of frowns. Obviously, von Treskow did not approve of her Wardrobe. The red-headed Woman herself wore a bright blue Powersuit matching High Heels, a white Blouse, and a Pearl Necklace around her Neck.
“She does look remarkably well†The Investigator mused. The Theda von Treskow she had seen at the Thingstätte had looked as if she would die any Moment. Had Chris von der Marwitz not held her steady, she would have crumbled to the Floor:
“Von der Marwitz pulled Theda von Treskow out of the Car. Not rough, but firm. Lisa was shocked as she watched her Boss. Von Treskow could barely stand on her feet. She sweated profusely; she was staggering on her High Heels. Her Eyes were unfocused.
Von der Marwitz held her firmly upright at her left upper Arm “Keep yourself together. It will be over soon!†Chris whispered, “Pray your Minions play ball†She added “I will rip them apart if they don´t and you will die. In Agony and Pain!†She paused “Not that you don´t deserve it.â€
“Frau Jungklausen†now von Treskow smiled „I am surprised to see you here. Shouldn´t you be in the Hospital? At poor Max´s side?†She still smiled – her grey Eyes though were icy cold. Natalie´s Lips were a thin line now “Uups, I shouldn´t have said that!†the Lawyer chuckled “That was rather rude, I apologize. Probably a side effect of the Poison!â€
“The Tea Frau von Treskow“ „Brienne“ interrupted them – Natalie had not heard her coming. The Maid put down the elegant wooden Tray down on the Table. On it a set of delicate China, two Glasses, and two small Bottles of Mineral Water. “Brienne†was about to fill Natalie´s cup but the Investigator demurred “Water is fine with me, thank you!†“You don´t know what you miss!†Theda smiled “The Darjeeling is exquisite†“I am more the Coffee-Type†Natalie shrugged “Your loss!†The Lawyer added, “Chris von der Marwitz prefers Green Tea I heard.â€
The brown-haired Investigator didn´t take the bait and went straight for the Jugular “You know
who ordered the Attempt on Max. Tell me and I can help you!†Theda von Treskow enjoyed the Situation immensely, that much was clear “My dear Natalie†the Lawyer smiled condescendingly “Supposed for a second I know who ordered the Attempt, why should I tell you?†She chuckled maliciously “It is way more fun to see you struggle!â€
Theda von Treskow took a sip of her Tea and savoured the Taste “I can give you a piece of advice though: Watch your back. Luck tends to run out you know.†The Lawyer still smiled, but it was that of a Predator.
A wave of hot fury washed over Natalie “You arrogant Bitch†she rose and crossed the Distance to von Treskow who still smiled. Amused and not troubled in the slightest “I told you, Natalie, watch your Back!â€
The Investigator wanted to turn around – but something hard and heavy hit her on the back of her Head with tremendous force. She crumbled to the Floor – and everything went black.
Von Treskow looked down at the unconscious Detective smiling maliciously “Why don´t you make our Guest comfortable Maria?†“Of Course, Madam!†Theda rose “Tell me when you are ready. I have some Calls to make!â€
She kicked the unconscious Natalie with her left Heel in the Ribs “Then we will have some fun!†Smiling she strode out of the Saloon.
The Herculean Blonde hoisted Natalie effortlessly over the Shoulder …...
The Schwalbennest: 30 Minutes earlier:
“You have not left your Touch Blondie†The Black Lady chuckled and evaded another powerful Kick aimed at her Chest – barely. Sarah McKenzie bowed slightly “You neither, Old Woman†Chris smiled and returned the Bow. Sophie watched fascinated: Watching the Blonde and the Black fight was always something not to be missed. Chris wore a white Gi, the Canadian a Black.
They had retreated to the Gym in the Villa´s Cellar after Sarah and Natasha had reviewed the Plans Chris, Anna, and Ragna had made and discussed Tactics. The Black Lady had made a few Suggestions but was very pleased with the Plan “Good Job! This will be Fun!†Sarah McKenzie had smiled and looked intently at Chris “In for some fun in the Gym?†The Blonde smiled “But no complaints when I kick your Ass!â€
“Dream on!†The Canadian had smiled. And so far, none of both Fighters had gained the Upperhand “Ready?†Chris challenged the black-haired Woman “Ready†The Masterthief smiled. Both Women bowed …†Wait!†Sophie interrupted them. Almost simultaneously the two Fighters turned “What is it, Sophie?†Chris had noticed the Lawyer´s Expression “I got a Message from Natalie†“And?†the Canadian prodded “I will visit a mutual Friend. The Bitch must know who ordered the Attempt on Max. Natalie†Sophie read aloud.
Chris and Sarah exchanged a look then looked at Sophie “She wrote that?†Chris inquired. The Pianist sounded calm and controlled – but the Masterthief could read between the Lines. The Pianist was pissed off “She did†Sophie confirmed and shrugged.
“She must be out of her Mind†The blonde shook her Head “Speak your Mind,†Sarah said, “What does that mean?â€
“It means†Chris chuckled mirthlessly “Natalie is probably in Trouble†She paused “And we have neither Time nor Manpower to mount a Rescue Operation! If we get her out of this Mess in one Piece, I will rip her Head off!â€
“That†Sarah McKenzie chuckled “Will be fun to watch!†Chris shot her a dirty look, her Smile now ominously “Why don´t we continue where we left Sarah?†….
Both Women resumed their fighting Stance …...
Chris was right about one Thing: Natalie was in Trouble ….
Cellars, Villa von Treskow, later:
Pain. Pure, simple Pain was the first thing Natalie felt when she regained consciousness. The Pain hammered between her Temples with a Sledgehammer´s Force. With much difficulty, she opened her Eyes. Everything remained dark. Now, the Investigator felt Pressure on her Eyes. What had happened? She had been at von Treskow´s Saloon. She had made a move at the Lawyer. Then, a terrible Pain. Then? Nothing.
Natalie wanted to move, to get up – but she couldn´t. The Investigator wanted to scream. She could not do that either. The Pain between her Temples was excruciating. She glided back into Darkness.
When the Detective awoke the next time – her Headache had receded to a dull throbbing and the Fog had lifted somewhat. Enough to analyze her Predicament “I am naked. I am tied up. I am gagged†That was the Cliff-Notes Version. She was naked. She was tied up. She was gagged. But not simply tied up and gagged:
Natalie was hogtied. It was so tight that only her tummy rested on the cold and smooth surface. A Stone Table? She could not lean in any Direction. Straps held her contorted Body in Position. Her mitted fists pressed against her bare Heels. Her big Toes were somehow tied back to her Head.
In fact, to the D-Ring of the Harness Ball Gag, which filled her Mouth, she could not move her Head. Her Neck felt like Cement—hard Cement: The Gag Straps cut deep into the Corners of her Mouth. But there was not only the Ball Gag, which had to be massive. Her Mouth had been stuffed too. With what? The Truth hit her: With used Panties. Natalie´s Hands had been mitted. She was totally immobile.
And there was the Crotchrope. It's a tight one. Every Time Natalie tried to move her wrists she felt a sharp Tug down south. Methodically the Detective tested her Bonds “I can not even lean an inch in any Direction†she concluded. And those Panties in her Mouth made her wretch. Almost. Throwing up was not an option. She would die. And Natalie Jungklausen had no intention to die.
Surprisingly she felt no Fear. The Pain she could handle – for now. She sensed something: She was not alone. Someone was watching her. Natalie knew that Perfume: Von Treskow! She struggled some more. A Chuckle. One she knew.
Someone fumbled at the Blindfold. It came loose. It took a while till her Eyes had adjusted. She was in a cavernous Room: Brick Walls, that much she could see. On a sturdy wooden Chair before her sat von Treskow. Legs crossed. Instead of Power Suit and High Heels, the Lawyer looked like a Dominatrix: Black, polished knee-high Leather boots, black Breeches, and a crisp white starched Blouse. In her right hand, she held a riding crop.
Her smug smile was infuriating “Good, you are awake Detective! I hope you are well. Maria is overzealous at Times! I have good News for you: Our Time together will be short. Some People are curious to meet you – I intend to make the most of the Time we have!â€
Expectantly she looked at Natalie “Isn´t that great?†Von Treskow laughed “Don´t hope your new Friends will rescue you! Tomorrow Morning they will be gone!â€
The Red-Head paused:
“But till your new Master arrives tomorrow? We will have much fun!â€
Von Treskow stood and sauntered towards Natalie. The Investigator began to sweat. In what Mess she had landed herself into … she steeled herself “She plays Head Games! I would have done the same!†Natalie told herself, trying to get her Nerves under Control.
She would not give the Bitch the Satisfaction to cave in. A sharp Pain. The Crop had hit her on her left heel. Zap! Another Stroke, and another ….
Von Treskow spared no part of her Body.
At some Point, Natalie´s Mind pulled the Plug.
Natalie fell into the Abyss again …. She embraced the Darkness like an old Friend ….
Tears rolled down her Cheeks
“Max, I failed youâ€
Everything went Dark.
Like a soft silken Blanket Darkness covered her.

The Heidelberg Affair - Troubles of the Past
Chapter 11:
“Tartarusâ€
Part One
Heidelberg University Clinic – Surgery, a Quarter to Midnight

Superb as ever. And great to see my favourite Lady appear in this story.
Truly amazing, a great tale - reading it has taken some time, but surely it wasn't wasted! On the contrary. Taking a bow.

Reading it takes time, indeed. Funny thing is that I even had to look up the meaning of a word here and there. Well written, long (even without the jumps to other, related, stories). Would I say it is amazing. Nope. I don't thing amazing is good enough. We'll have to find some other word for the quality... Oh, I know one @Caesar73... Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! That is what this story is.Nainur wrote: 6 months ago Truly amazing, a great tale - reading it has taken some time, but surely it wasn't wasted! On the contrary. Taking a bow.

Quite right. It is a long read, but by nk means a slow burn and delivers every step of the way. Each chapter deepens the plot and heightens the tension.slackywacky wrote: 6 months agoReading it takes time, indeed. Funny thing is that I even had to look up the meaning of a word here and there. Phenomenal story telling, crafting the tale through many different characters and their perspectives, a true masterpiece. Looking forward to the endgame which is hoving rapidly into view.
