Well she did -

It took me quite some time to bring this up again with her later.

We were brought up as quite free-minded and there were hardly any taboos at the dinner table.

Guess she tried to deal with this in her own way. Not sure, as I still do not understand why she did what she did.
This would be one of those things that we hardly ever spoke about afterwards.
