Binding Question
Binding Question
Hi - When binding legs, is it really necessary to have the bonds above and below the knees, or is it more for appearance and symmetry to have both? It seems (in my naive thinking) that just over the knee is pretty sufficient to immobilize. Thanks for any insights on this.

When my legs are bound, I prefer to have them bound only above the knees. I find it pretty immobilizing with just that and at the ankles, for legs tied together. When tied to a bed, for more immobility, having the big toes tied together and the ankle binding securely, but safely, tethered to a footboard or bed posts, makes it even more immobile.
Other people's millage may vary, but the most important bit is to be mindful of nerves and arteries/veins, so that blood circulation and muscle contractions are unimpeded. I do like the look of ropes both above and below the knees, but in my personal case, I have to be very careful, as I find that ropes just below my knees will either cut-off circulation or just slide down my calves ineffectively unless tied 'just right'. So I usually omit ropes around just below my knees, unless my wife and I really don't mind taking the extra time to adjust the ropes properly and monitor their tightness and positioning constantly (which we do also with the ropes above the knees and around ankles, soles, and toes, but those have been less of an issue for me personally).
That's just my personal experience; others may have different experiences and opinions.

Both below and above the knees are appealing to me as restricts leg movement keeping them completely still. Plus it feels nice also.
I don’t think that binding below the knees is necessary if you’re going to tie above the knees as well—at least from a practical perspective. However, I think it’s also worth noting that a lot of bondage positions and ties that are visually appealing don’t necessarily equate to effective bondage (or most comfortable), and vice versa.
I’d recommend trying multiple ties and positions out and just see what works best for you!

Necessary, no. But it does definitely leave less wiggle room. As far as restricting movement, i think you’d be fine with just one set over the knees but like I said, less wiggle room. Definitely can feel the difference if you’re the one tied up. I find more restriction better. [[
Nice bit of ropework, @Tiemetighthogtie!

I take a technical view of how I tie my bindings for a few reasons. So, my opinions are based on that.
As time allows, I tie ankles, below and above the knees generally. Sometimes also the upper thighs as well. I've noticed that most women I've tied try to either pull their ankles through the coils or they try to move/rub their ankles together back and forth to loosen the knots (the latter if they have some experience of trying hard previously). I've also noticed that even experienced women tend to keep their knees partially bent when they instinctively roll over on their side; I usually bind arms behind the back so this is an intuitive comfort-seeking action. Practically speaking, tying above the knees prevents effective up and down movement of the legs and therefor greatly limits the range of motion of her ankles.
I agree that tying below the knees does a good job of adding restriction of movement to the shins and ankles. This is why I almost always do all three.
Sometimes I add the extra tie on the upper thigh for some minimal extra restriction and psychological effect. You can benefit from greater restriction on women with long legs doing this. It is balanced more to the phycological effect of the bindings on more petite women where the shorter legs have a lesser range of motion with the 3 other binding points already.
If you are even a bit of a sadist then tying above the knees adds another bit of fun. As a human leg bends the muscles and ligaments contract and get thicker. A rope tied snuggly, let alone tightly, will interfere with this happening. It limits how much contraction takes place resulting in a lesser ability to bend the leg below the knees. It is also painful around that tie when she would try to bend her legs because the ropes don't give/stretch and put a lot of pressure on those muscles trying to contract. It limits a woman's movements by both inhibiting the range of motion (leg bending) and through pain as a disincentive when she tries. It will probably keep all but the toughest or motivated woman from trying to get into a kneeling position due to the pain on that part of the tie; a real problem for her if she wants to try and get from a prone to standing position.
If you add the above a snug above the knee tie before bending her knees into a hogtie, it can get uncomfortable from the start, outright painful over time. A potential addition to a punishment form hogtie or just to be an evil bastard
Note: this will leave deep marks or bruising if tied tight enough.
Extra pro tip - Before doing the other leg ties (I advocate at least ankle/above/below knees) tie her ankles in a crossed position. By this I mean in an X shape like you would if you want to keep her knees apart for sitting in a lotus position. Don't tie it really tightly or you'll give away the next part. After you finish tying her knees and thighs, she'll start to notice something you won't even be able to see: because of the way the pelvis and thigh ball joints meet (especially on women) her hips will start to ache as a result of the position her legs are kept in by the cross tied ankles. This starts mild but gets progressively more sore over time, how much depends on her flexibility and condition but it will happen to anyone eventually. Most women I've done this with never actually mention the discomfort because I don't think they understand why it's happening and just chalk it up to the overall bondage; in fairness, maybe its the gag
I know its happening though.
I've never observed injury from this, even over sessions lasting 3+ hours, though I'd be conscious of her physical condition before adding stress tie elements like this. Though I have anyway...
