Dear Readers! What do you think about Chris and her new Partner? A Match?
Nobody is a match for C vd M
Great chapter again @Caesar73 love the way the story is building.

Great chapter again @Caesar73 love the way the story is building.
Well I’ve caught up with the past couple of chapters and wow what great penmanship you have shown throughout my dear friend and Grandmaster. Yet as is so often the case with your tales it’s hard for me to pick out a single scene for praise as they’re all so good
If Chris believes that he is, who the hell am i to argue?Caesar73 wrote: 1 year ago Dear Readers! What do you think about Chris and her new Partner? A Match?
Another wonderful, amazingly well written chapter. I admire the details yet again ... and there's so much energy and emotion in it.
My highlight is - cannot help it - Chris does what Chris does. 1005 in every aspect....

btw., for German Panzer-crews, also, though I remember some chilly winter-mornings when a can of coke and a mars-bar had to suffice - and, wooah! - those kickstarted you!Caesar73 wrote: 1 year ago Another Habit from his Times as a Marine. First Order of the Day? A Pot of Black and Strong.

Hayley stood before the closed massive oaken Gates of the Chapel. Her Father stood at her side, sturdy like a Centuries-old Oak. The buxom blonde was relaxed. Relaxed, excited, and happy. Shortly she would marry Kirsty.
“Everything alright?†Commissioner King asked his Daughter warmly “I am a bit overwhelmed†Hayley smiled – a bit sheepishly “But yes Father. Everything is okay!†Under the Veil, the Commissioner could not make out Hayley´s features clearly, he was sure though: She glowed – and that Glow came from her Core.
“Your Mother will be proud of you Hayley!†Seamus King said warmly, and the Investigator noticed her Father used the Present Tense “I think so too†she smiled, her voice only slightly quivering “Yes†she said “Mother will always be with me†The blonde squeezed her Father´s hand “I like the Idea she is with us here and now Father!†Seamus King bade his Daughter his left Arm.
Hayley could hear Chris playing. The American knew that the blonde Pianist had composed this Piece only for them “For Kirsty and me†she smiled. This was an immense Gift she knew. And from what she could hear the German had outdone herself. She had to smile “Grand Ma will surely be impressed!â€
They listened to the Fantasy's final Notes.
The Chapel Gates swung open as if by magic.
Inside the Chapel at the same Time:
Chris beamed at Anna and Sophie and nodded ever so slightly. They saw Hayley and her Father standing under the Entrance Arch, ready to proceed down the Aisle. Chris and Anna exchanged a look and a warm smile “Now!†it said:
Chris's fingers hit the Keys, her Tone crystal clear, and Anna´s bow struck the Strings of her Lord-Dunn-Raven. Stately tunes filled the Chapel. Sophie knew few instrumentalists who were so perfectly in tune with each other. One could have blindfolded the Pianist and the Violinist, and nobody would have heard any difference.
Chris´ bright, clear yet warm tone mixed perfectly with the warm, dulcet tones of Anna´s Violin. The Russian could let her Stradivarius sing like a human being. And Anna did let her Violin sing – Chris noticed the warm smile that curled her best friend´s lips.
Hayley made the first step. In perfect time with the Music, she strode solemnly down the Aisles. It was only a Violin and a Piano, but the two Instruments seemed to fill the Chapel. The Tones of the Violin seemed to soar upwards to the vaulted ceiling like Birds Song.
With every step forward Hayley could see the Nave of the Chapel more clearly. Behind the Altar stood the Priest. At first, she had some reservations about the Conversations which they were to be obliged to have with the Monsignore. In fact, Hayley had been surprised, by the kindness and open mind of Don Cavalli – especially when they told the Monsignore how they had met – and certain aspects of their love life.
With the last tone of the first Stanza Hayley had reached her Place. The left of the two upholstered dark wooden Chairs before the Altar, before the kneeler. Her father touched her lightly on her right shoulder ere he took his seat in the first row.
Outside the Chapel:
“Ready Sis?†Brian Garrett smiled at his younger sister, who did a bad job of hiding her Nervousness “Cold feet?†The oldest Garrett chuckled mischievously “I want to be somewhere else†Kirsty muttered “No, you won´t†That is just the Nerves!†He grinned “Believe me I know†Brian Garrett listened “That is our cue!†Indeed, Kirsty noticed. The first Stanza was over.
She pulled herself together “Let´s go!†“That´s my Sister!†Brian smiled warmly with just a tad of mischief sparkling in his eyes; he bade Kirsty his Arm. They stepped into the Chapel. A marvellous dark shimmering Mezzo started to sing …...
Head held high; Kirsty strode along. She felt comforted by the Presence of her Brother. In front of the Altar, she could make out Hayley …
Later:
Brian Garrett walked up to the Lectern. Kirsty had bid him to deliver the first reading of the Old Testament – and he had felt immensely honoured by that request of his Sister. That she had shown up out of nowhere after all that time had come as a shock.
And their first Call had not exactly been happy news. Kirsty had informed him that their Sister Rose had tried to kill her in cold blood, drowning her in her bathtub. Kirsty had sounded calm and composed, but he had sensed her Agitation, nevertheless.
He smiled to himself: The prodigal Sister had returned.
He turned and faced the Audience. He looked from the left to the right. He looked down at the Holy Scripture, he inhaled deeply gripped the lectern more tightly – and began to read:
“Reading from the Song of Songs!â€
Hark! my lover–here he comes
springing across the mountains,
leaping across the hills.
My lover is like a gazelle
or a young stag.
Here he stands behind our wall,
gazing through the windows,
peering through the lattices.
My lover speaks; he says to me,
“Arise, my beloved, my dove, my beautiful one, and come!
“O my dove in the clefts of the rock,
in the secret recesses of the cliff,
Let me see you,
let me hear your voice,
for your voice is sweet,
and you are lovely.â€
My lover belongs to me and I to him.
He says to me:
“Set me as a seal on your heart,
as a seal on your arm;
For stern as death is love,
relentless as the nether world is devotion.
its flames are a blazing fire.
Deep waters cannot quench love,
nor floods sweep it away.â€
Kirsty was immensely touched as she listened. It was not only her Brother who had been estranged so long to her. It was the Words of the Holy Scripture that touched her. She looked up to her brother and a brief smile crossed his face.
With calm and measured steps Brian Garrett stepped down from the Lectern to his place in the Pew.
The Choir intoned “Stand by meâ€.
“When the night has come
And the land is dark
And the moon is the only light we'll see
No, I won't be afraid, oh, I won't be afraid
Just as long as you stand, stand by me
So darlin', darlin', stand by me, oh, stand by me
Oh, stand, stand by me, stand by me
If the sky that we look upon
Should tumble and fall
Or the mountains should crumble to the sea
I won't cry, I won't cry, no, I won't shed a tear
Just as long as you stand, stand by me
And darlin', darlin', stand by me, oh, stand by me
Whoa, stand now, stand by me, stand by me
Darlin', darlin', stand by me, oh, stand by me
Oh, stand now, stand by me, stand by me
Whenever you're in trouble, won't you stand by me? Oh, stand by me
Whoa, stand now, oh, stand...!â€

One could hear the proverbial needle falling on the marble tilts.
Kirsty knew that now her youngest sister, Charlene would deliver the Second Reading from the New Testament. Charlene´s Heels clicked loudly on the Stone. Her Sister walked in calm measured steps.
Kirsty could hear that she was breathing in deeply. Her clear soprano filled the Chapel:
“Reading from Saint Pauls first Letter to the Corinthians!â€
“Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.
And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.
And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.
Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,
Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;
Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;
Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.
Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.
For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.
But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.
When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.
For now, we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.â€
Hayley had listened intently “Faith, Hope, Charity.â€
The last verse of the Reading struck a bell in her heart. She squeezed Kirsty´s right hand. It was dry and warm. Her Bride returned the Gesture.
Chris watched:
After Charlene had taken her Place in the pew again Sophie strode to the Lectern, with the elegance of a large Cat, her high black Natan Couture platform Sandals clicking loudly on the stone, and grabbed the lectern firmly with two hands.
The Lawyer let her gaze glide above the Brides, the Congregation – she smiled briefly at the Brides, inhaled deeply, and intoned the Gospel Acclamation: “Halleluja! Hallelujaa! Hallelujaa!â€
(281) Halleluja - GL 175, 2 - YouTube
She sang the comforting Words of Psalm 121 and repeated the Gospel Acclamation.
“I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.
My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.
He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber.
Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.
The Lord is thy keeper: the Lord is thy shade upon thy right hand.
The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night.
The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul.
The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore!â€
Her warm, dark shimmering Mezzo reverberated through the Chapel.
Sophie waited for a Spell as the Gospel Acclamation reverberated through the Chapel. She smiled.
The Lawyer turned, bowed curtly before the Altar, and took her Seat next to Chris and Anna again. “That was truly wonderful Sophie!†Anna whispered out of the Corner of her Mouth. The Russian was moved, the dark-haired former District Attorney could tell.
Sophie could also tell that the Violinist enjoyed herself very much – and she had done something very unusual. Normally nobody was allowed to touch her Stradivarius. This time though, the Russian had given the precious Violin to Merit who sat behind her and had put the Violin and bow with utmost care on the red velvet of the Violin Case.
That Anna entrusted her Lady-in-Waiting the Instrument said something. Between the Lord-Dunn-Raven which was not just a Violin for her, and its Owner existed a very close connection.
The Musicians watched as Monsignore Cavalli stepped at the Lectern and intoned the Gospel with his rich, resounding Baritone:
“The Lord be with you!â€
“A reading from the Holy Gospel of John!â€
Hayley was not an overly religious Person, had never been – since her College Days she had not attended Holy Mass very often. But the Liturgy itself always touched something in her – and so she listened intently to the Words of the Holy Scripture, Hayley and Kirsty had left the Choice of Texts to the Monsignore and the Wedding Planners:
This Don Pietro read:
“My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.
Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.
You are my friends if you do what I command.
I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business.
Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.
You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.
This is my command:
Love each other.â€
The final Verse of the Gospel resounded in the Chapel. Gently Hayley pressed Kirsty´s left Hand. The Briton returned the Gesture.
"The Gospel of the Lord," Don Cavalli addressed the Congregation.
"Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ."
The assembly sat.
The Priest looked from the left to the right and Birte Ricciarelli had the feeling that the Monsignore saw right through her. As the German Detective learned later: Every Person she talked to had had the same feeling.
Gabriella listened intently to the Homily and for a Moment her thoughts wandered back to her own Wedding. So far Don Cavalli had made a good impression on her. No old stuffy, Conservative who did not believe even in Fire. “No†the Chilean thought “This Member of the Societas Jesu knows the Lifeâ€.
Chris was curious. Honestly, she could not remember when she had last attended Mass. The von der Marwitz´ had always been devout Protestants over Generations as it was befitting a good Servant of the Prussian King.
But Don Cavalli had struck a chord in her, at their short meeting – which said something.
The Pianist considered herself a spiritual Person – not a Christian. She knew the Holy Scripture though pretty well, and as her Parents had died, she had raged and raved against God. It had been Psalm 22 that had captured her mood back then most poignantly, especially one Verse:
“O my God, I cry in the daytime, but thou hearest not; and in the night season and am not silent.â€
Now she listened intently and looked forward to crossing Swords with Don Cavalli later -verbally only. Chris smiled.
Maureen de Angelo listened intently too “What do you think Thane? I would like this Priest to officiate our Wedding too!†Warmly the stern Gunny smiled at his Fiancé “I could live with that my love!â€
“Brothers and Sisters in Christ!â€
Don Cavalli intoned:
“We heard the Words of the Holy Scripture “My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you†Love each other as I have loved you Christ said†The Monsignore repeated and paused for a spell. He looked down as if to compose himself for a second and looked up again at the Congregation:
“Love has many facets; many faces and it strikes our hearts when we least expect it.†The Priest paused for effect “Today we have come together to marry two Women: Kirsty Garrett and Hayley King! They do love each other as the Lord commanded!â€
He smiled warmly at the Brides.
“Love each other as I have loved you!†Don Cavalli let his gaze wonder above the Congregation “This the Evangelist tells us!†He looked intently again at the Brides:
“Who would have thought many years ago that these two Women would tie the knot today? Here in the Chapel of the Holy Trinity in the State of New York? Four Years ago, neither Hayley nor Kirsty would have dreamt of standing one day together before the Face of God to convene in Holy Matrimony.
As they met for the first time it was not love at first sight. Oh no! Far from it! Both stood on opposite Sites! Hayley as Officer of the Law, Kirsty as Senior Member of an Enterprise operating in the Shadows!â€
Kirsty had to smile “Nicely put Don Cavalli!†She and Hayley had been pretty frank about their common history.
“They met again later several times†the Monsignore continued calmly “Still standing on opposite sides. But at some Point, something changed: Opponents became Partners first, sharing a common fate. Kirsty because she did the right thing, Hayley because she had no choice!â€
Hayley shed a Tear. Monsignore Cavalli did deliver a great speech.
“The Scripture tells us: The Lord works in mysterious ways!†Don Cavalli smiled “The Love of Hayley King and Kirsty Garrett is a Testimony to that! Their partnership became something different: It became Love. And each obstacle, those two Women overcame, overcame together, strengthened that Love. As we heard in the Reading of Saint Paul? “Charity beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.â€
“The Love Hayley and Kirsty share does all that.†The Jesuit let those words sink in. Sophie was impressed: The Minister had captured his Audience and touched their hearts.
“And then came that fateful day when the Paths of our Brides crossed the Path of Christine von der Marwitz!†He smiled at Chris -and to Anna´s surprise her best Friend, entirely cool in the heat of battle, blushed. Deeply. And looked studiously at her Toes.
The Monsignore continued:
“Christine von der Marwitz offered Kirsty and Hayley the Chance for a fresh Start, together, here in New York! And I know that Christine†he winked at the Pianist “says she does not believe in God, she acted though in the Spirit of the Holy Gospel we heard today “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.†She acted in this Spirit, their Friends acted in this Spirit and our Brides acted in this Spirit†The Monsignore paused “To lay upon the Altar the Dearest and the Best!â€
“And so, it comes†Don Cavalli continued “That we stand here together in this hour to bear Witness that two People, whose love has grown and deepened over Time tie the knot in the face of God!
Amen!â€
“Amen!†The Congregation responded.
Anna smiled “That was short and to the Point! You should like that, Chris!!†Chris smiled back “You should hurry Anna, you are Kirsty´s Witness!†The Pianist enjoyed the Moment very much, Anna had almost forgotten that she had to be Kirsty´s Witness. But Anna being Anna? Without missing a beat, she rose elegantly and strode to the seat on Kirsty´s right.
Don Cavalli turned to the Brides and the Congregation:
“Dearly beloved, you have come together into the house of the Church so that in the presence of the Church’s minister and the community your intention to enter into Marriage may be strengthened by the Lord with a sacred seal.
Christ abundantly blesses the love that binds you. Through a special Sacrament, he enriches and strengthens those he has already consecrated by Holy Baptism, that they may; And so, in the presence of the Church, I ask you to state your intentions!â€
Kirsty and Hayley rose. They smiled at each other. To Hayley, it felt like being in a Dream and she was sure, Kirsty felt the same.
A stream of Pictures flooded her Mind: From their first Meeting till now. On her left stood as Witness Natalie, and on Kirsty´s, right? The Briton had thought long about the Question – before she had chosen Anna. She had always felt a connection to the courageous Russian, especially after they learned about Anna´s Death while they had been in Los Angeles.
Kirsty felt Anna´s Presence at her side. Anna knew how to make an impression under any circumstances. But today she had outdone herself. From the circlet she wore, with the red ruby in its Centre, the Cross of Romanov resting on her Breastbone down to the tips of her nyloned toes.
Don Cavalli was impressed. The Grand Duchesse wore a large Orthodoxian Cross with large red rubies around the Neck – and he noticed the two red Scars she had not covered: A lightning bold shaped one above her left brow and a thin red line above her left breast “Interesting†the Priest mused “She has not covered the Scars.†This told something about the Grand Duchess. Anna Romanova returned the Gaze evenly – and a small smile curled her full red lips. She ever nodded so lightly.
Kate watched and shed a tear, she pressed Castle's Hand “You know, our road†she whispered, “Was a long one†She remembered keenly those Months when she had had to believe Castle was dead “But their road†she nodded at Kirsty and Hayley was even steeper “I know†Castle whispered back “but your Dress when we tied the knot?†I would have ravished you on the spot!†Beckett´s eyebrows rose “Before the Altar?†The Writer smiled that lopsided grin, which Kate found so difficult to resist “You know we!â€
Katherine Haughton Beckett stepped purposefully with her right blue platform Sandal on her Husband´s toes …. fully – and with relish …
Don Cavalli turned to the Brides and their Witnesses:
Later:
In later years, when she thought back to this day, Hayley realized not every Moment of the Wedding Mass clearly. Some Moments stood clear as mountain crystal before her eyes, other Moments were a blur, like a fleeting dream in the heart of night. One Moment of clarity was the Moment when she and Kirsty exchanged the rings and spoke their vows.
After that Moment her Memory was foggy: The blonde could not remember what Don Cavalli had said after that. The clear, bright Tones of a Grand Piano brought her back to reality. Chris was playing “Hey, I know that, Melody!†the American realized – a picture was forever connected with this Melody, the opening bars of a Gospel.
Not any Gospel but the Gospel! “Oh, Happy Day!â€
She would never forget that Picture when they entered the Arena after they had disabled the Sun Ray of Amon-Ra: There in the bright sun Chris and Anna had stood. The Russian had defeated her Arch Nemesis, the High Priestess, the German had killed Hiram Al Mansour.
The blonde and the dark-haired woman stood very close to each other, only a foot apart. The German was clad in black body armour, the Russian wore hobnailed Sandals, bronze Greaves a Tunica which had been white once, and a bronze cuirass.
And both Women had laughed, laughed, and wept – and then Sophie had burst into song, filled the vast Arena with her wonderful Mezzo, and clapped her hands “Everybody now!†she shouted. And sung. Hayley remembered. “Oh, Happy Day!†the Lawyer had sung – and touched Hayley´s heart.
What had she told Kirsty back then? “I want Sophie to sing this Gospel at our Wedding!†And now it seemed her Wish had come to pass.
Chris – she realized now it was Chris -played the opening bars of the Gospel – gently, in pianissimo almost, but clear. The blonde played the Melody again. A subtle signal by Karen Gibson. The Choir hummed the Melody. Chris played the opening bars a third time … now the dulcet tones of Anna´s Stradivarius mixed with the Piano and the Choir.
The Pianist smiled at Sophie as they neared the finish, and Sophie nodded, almost imperceptibly. Back in the desert, it had been a spontaneous decision to sing that Gospel. Today was different. The Lawyer had exercised long with Dorothea Berger, the former Vocal Coach of von Winterfeldt, she had even sung with the best Gospel Choir of Hamburg – to get in the Groove.
Sophie was a classical trained Singer; this she would ever be. But as a Singer of Baroque Music improvising came as second Nature to her. Of course, her voice was not a “black voiceâ€, Sophie´s Mezzo was and would ever remain a “white†Voice. But Sophie was equipped perfectly to sing Gospel.
“Oh, Happy Day!†she intoned, beaming “Oh Happy Day!†the Choir returned “Oh Happy Day!†Sophie sang along, one-third higher this time. The Choir followed suit. Choir and Soloist were perfectly in tune with each other.
Pamela Garrett listened in awe. She had no musical talent, she told herself, but the Music performed at the Wedding had touched her deeply. And this Gospel? This magnificent dark Voice? It moved her very much. She squeezed Brian´s right hand. Her Husband returned. They exchanged a look and smiled at each other. It had been the right decision to make the Trip to the States.
By now Choir and Soloist had sung the first Stanza and moved on to the second repetition. Choir and Soloist moved in perfect harmony with each other. Karen Gibson was impressed. She had worked with classical trained Musicians before, but this was different.
First, all three were entirely professional. That had to be expected by Musicians of that Calibre. But how the Trio adapted to Gospel? That had been truly impressive. They felt the Spirit acted on it.
Sophie let go. Totally. She was in the flow. She looked at Chris. Their eyes met. And the Pianist smiled “Come on†those green eyes said, “Let´s have some fun!†“She is improvising!†Sophie thought: She watched as Chris looked at Anna. Chris whispered something and Anna smiled back and then …...
What had the Pianist whispered?
“Now Anna, we will rock the House!†Anna had just smiled back ….
Chris went all in, and Anna followed with ease. Both Musicians delivered a fully-grown Improvisation.
The blonde smiled at Karen Gibson. The Choir performed, clapping their hands. Sophie´s Mezzo fused with the Choir, in perfect Harmony with the Pianist and the Violinist.
The Congregation clapped their Hands “Everybody now!†Karen Gibson, she inspired the Audience.
Chris and Anna improvised and fantasized. Chris felt she was carried away. But she let it happen –with every repetition of the Refrain the Blonde played faster, and Anna´s Violin bow danced above the Strings of her Stradivarius like an Arab in full Gallop.
“Come one!†Karen Gibson spurred the Choir and Audience on. Sophie clapped her Hands. Sang. Rejoiced. Danced “Oh Happy Day!â€
“He taught me how to walk, fight and pray!†“Fight and pray!†The Choir sang back.
“And he’s rejoicing every day!"
Sarah Mackenzie had seen much and heard much. Had seen the three Musicians perform together - -often.
But seeing this Trio performing Gospel as had they never done anything else was quite the Show.
The Thief could tell Chris, Anna, and Sophie had enormous fun. Whenever the Canadian thought the ultimate Climax was nearby? Another round followed. The Gospel Train got faster and faster.
For a full five Minutes, Chris and Anna improvised, while Choir and Soloist clapped their Hands, and moved in Rhythm with the Music.
What Chris and Anna did was like two Handball Players passing the Ball at High Speed to the other back and forth. Again, and again. With unfailing accuracy.
Soloist and Choir joined the Match. Back and forth. Back and forth. Back and forth.
And then it was over:
The last phrase, the last “Oh Happy Day!†stood in the Hall, resonating.
Spontaneously the Congregation applauded, like a large Wave hitting the Turf.
The Musicians and the Choir beamed and bowed! Bowed again. Again, and again.
The Thief noticed Anna’s rosy cheeks and Chris’ beaming green Eyes. Sarah smiled: She had seen those facial expressions before – after a thunderous Orgasm.
“The Trio looks pretty aroused!†Natasha whispered in her left ear. Her lips lightly touching the Earlobe ...
“Not more than you!†The Canadian whispered huskily back ...
“This is indeed a Happy Day!†Monsignore Cavalli continued, smiling broadly …
The Liturgy continued.
Finally, it was time for the Blessing ...
Kirsty and Hayley knelt before Don Pietro Cavalli who extended his Palms over their Heads. For Hayley, this gesture had something comforting.
Solemnly he spoke in his rich majestic Baritone, which filled the Chapelle easily to the rows:
Dear brothers and sisters,
let us humbly pray to the Lord
that on these his servants, now married in Christ,
he may mercifully pour out
the blessing of his grace
and make of one heart in love.
(by the Sacrament of Christ's Body and Blood)
those he has joined by a holy covenant.
This the Lord said:
The LORD bless thee, and keep thee:
The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:
The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace!â€
“Amen!†The Congregation responded in unison.
Kirsty would never call herself a religious Person. She had seen too often what People could do to each other. Be it in Afghanistan or later in Crawford's Service. The Criminal Mastermind was a very good example of what Men were capable. That she had planned to Sabotage their Wedding showed that clearly.
The Monsignore interrupted her Musings:
“Go in peace to glorify the Lord with your lifeâ€.
"Thanks be to God."
The Assembly responded.
The Brides rose and turned. Beaming at each other and the Congregation.
Maureen de Angelo shed a Tear “Aren´t they beautiful Thane?†“They are!†Thane smiled “And we really shall engage Chris, Anna, and Sophie!†“That from the ardent Bruce Springsteen Fan!†his fiancé chuckled and pulled out a Handkerchief.
Chris looked at Anna and Sophie and intoned Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy´s Wedding March from “A Midsummer Night´s Dream†Anna was once more fascinated by how easily Chris could make one forget the full Orchestra. The Pianist had enormous fun. The Russian could tell, as her hands flew over the Keyboard.
Wedding March Mendelssohn - Piano version (youtube.com)
Mendelssohn-Liszt: A Midsummer Night's Dream, Wedding March and Dance of Faries (youtube.com)
“Let´s go!†Kirsty smiled at her Wife. She could barely believe it “Hayley is my Wife!†In time with the Piano, the two Brides strode down the Aisle.
Chris and Anna exchanged a look and the Russian fell in her warm Tone soaring to Vault.
Hayley had the feeling of gliding across the Tiles. They stepped under the Arch of the Entrance into the Sun and rooted on the Spot “Attention†a female Voice rang through the Air. The clanking of Sabres “This is a Dream†The blonde shook her head in Awe:
The Reason for her Consternation and Delight were the forty or so Officers of the NYPD in full Uniform. Immaculate down to the pristine white gloves. The Officers had formed an Espalier, their gleaming Parade Sabres forming an Arch of polished Steel.
“Shall we?†Kirsty smiled “We shall!†Hayley smiled. They strode down the Stairs and stepped under the Arch ….

“O my dove in the clefts of the rock,
in the secret recesses of the cliff,
Let me see you,
let me hear your voice,
for your voice is sweet,
and you are lovely.â€
My lover belongs to me and I to him.
He says to me:
“Set me as a seal on your heart,
as a seal on your arm;
'Stand by Me' performed by Karen Gibson and The Kingdom Choir - The Royal Wedding - BBC (youtube.com)
Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,
Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;
Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;

Bravo my friend.
Enchanting, engaging, atmospheric and wonderful.
The music choices and readings were absolutely perfect. Have you considered a change of career to wedding planner?
All jokes aside, this was fantastic. Chapeau

Dear @wolfman , dear @Bandit666 thank you for your most kind Comments!
@wolfman : Wedding Planer? I don´t know ....
I imagine in this Profession you must have very good Nerves and the Patience of a Saint! While I think I would get high marks on the Nerves-Part? The necessary Patience could be a Problem
As for the Holy Scripture? I had some rough Ideas from the beginning but refined them. Thankfully the King James Bible is available online - I do like this Translation of the Holy Scripture. It has a certain ring to it. It has a beauty to it, which is hard to describe.
Hayley and Kirsty are not overly religious Persons as we learn during the Chapter, but they appreciate the Choices their Wedding Planners made for them. The first Lecture from the Song of Songs is a Love Poem, a beautiful one. If you don´t know it is from the Bible you would not think it is.The second Lecture is a Classic. A bit mysterious. The Gospel of John is the fitting Choice I felt - for Kirsty and Hayley´s Wedding. @mrjones2009 beautiful Characters, which he allowed to use me kindly deserve the best. And I hope I did them Justice.

Wonderful.
Amazing.
As all previous chapters have been, both 9 and 10 are too. Brilliant reads which I've been too busy of late to keep up with, until now.
Especially loved:
- the Japanese exercises performed by Chris in 9. The descriptions were fascinating to myself, being a fan of the ancient culture. A fan of swords.
- the piano piece. I'm not familiar with the instrument but do know something of music. I used to play. Your descriptions and I could imagine the flow.
Well done, basically. The wedding was lovely and I'm now waiting to see what may follow?

Thank you my Friend. Chris is Mistress with the Swords. What she did at the morning of the Wedding has a deeper Meaning. In Short? You will see more of Chris and her Swords in the next Chapters.RopeBunny wrote: 11 months ago - the Japanese exercises performed by Chris in 9. The Brides, along with Kirsty´s Family, her Father, and Rachel Weinstein had commandeered one of the large round Tables set up on the Front Terrace of Bernstein Manor. The String Quartet was playing, the Guests were enjoying themselves on the neatly trimmed lawn. The Ladies in colourful gowns and dresses, the men in dark suits or tuxedoes.
Hayley smiled. Among the many People, two Pairs stood out: A tall blonde man, with a very tall dark-haired Woman at his side, conversing in low tones. The Woman wore a red gown which left her left shoulder bare.
Under the tall and old Planes, another Pair was walking. The blonde Woman laughed. It was a laugh deep down from her Core. Her Companion had long shimmering black hair, his skin deeply tanned by the sun of the Desert “He is cutting a dashing figure in a Tuxedo†Hayley King mused.
“We did the right thing†Kirsty smiled “What?†Hayley asked, “To invite Ardeth Bey†her Wife grinned “They are the perfect Match, don´t you think?†The blonde smiled back “Seems that way, look, their body language! Indeed: The blonde had taken the Bedouin's left hand a Flute with Champaign in the other.
She seemed to glow.
30 Minutes earlier: The Chapel
Chris was elated. Doing Music with this incredible Choir, with Anna and Sophie was absolutely fantastic. They had been so well in tune with each other. Now the three Musicians strode down the aisles to meet their Friends outside.
Merit two steps behind them carried Anna´s Violin Case.
Anna had talked to the Egyptian about that habit “You don´t need to walk two steps behind me Merit, you are my Friend!†“This Occasion is not private Anna†Merit had replied “You are here in an official capacity†Anna was on the Verge of Speaking, but the younger Woman was quicker “You are Anna, but you are also Grand Duchesse Anna Alexandrovna Romanova, you are wearing the Cross of Romanov today – so I am in my official Role as your Lady in Waiting!â€
Anna had looked long at the Egyptian – then her expression got soft “You are right Merit!â€
“Chris!†The Russian beamed “Look!†A warm smile crossed her features and her Cheeks turned rosy. Chris knew exactly why: There under the Entrance Arch a blonde man with clear-cut, chiselled Features stood. His face gave nothing away. He looked like the bust of a Roman Patrician Chris had once seen in the Vatican Museum.
“Running at him would be conduct unbecoming Anna†the German smiled mischievously “I know that!†Anna huffed and now she smiled mischievously too “You have seen the man behind James?â€
Actually, Chris had not.
Now it was her turn to blush, which went not unnoticed by her best Friend “Wait†the Russian grinned broadly “The mighty Warrior Princess of the North is getting cold feet?†Chris muttered something unintelligible. They had closed the Distance now and Anna threw herself at 007 – and kissed him full on the Mouth.
Chris hesitated – then straightened herself and walked with decisive steps at Ardeth Bey. That Dark Eyes, that sharp features. She had felt drawn to him the first Moment they had met. But that had not been the time …. Back then in the Desert.
She remembered one Moment:
“It is in the middle of the night. I take all sensations in: The Sounds – there are not many – the cackling of the flames. Ardeth Bey walks beside me. I feel his presence, his calm authority. I don´t know him for long. But at another place at another time, I would find him attractive. I have to smile "Ruggedly handsome" he is, like Castle. I smile seldom these days since Anna´s death. But here in the heart of the Night, the heart of the Desert, underneath the Stars I regained my Equilibrium. I will need it I know. My thoughts wonder to Ardeth Bey ....
I concentrate. Today is not the time. Not now. Not today.
There is no place for tarrying today.
I listen intently. Listen to my heartbeat, my pulse. It is regular. Calm. And I also feel Anna´s Presence. I know, she is gone. But I sense her. In a few hours I will avenge her. I will send Al Mansur to hell. Where he belongs.
Anna´s Soul will be pleased.
And I will find peace.â€
Ardeth Bey turns to me:â€
It had been the Night before the Assault on Al Mansour´s Stronghold …. In the Courtyard of a Millenniums old Fortress deep in the vast Emptiness of the Western Egyptian Desert. She had addressed the Warriors of the Medjai before she led them into Battle. She remembered the Moment as if it had been yesterday.
Chris forced herself to the Present. The Chieftain of the Medjai cut a dashing figure in a Tuxedo. Those dark black gleaming eyes which had such a mesmerizing Power looked at her. Ardeth Bey smiled – that enigmatic smile that had captured her heart, the Moment they had met:
From deep black bottomless eyes, he looked at the blonde, and crossed his hands before his chest “As-salamu alaikum†he greeted her in a rich baritone and bowed “Wa-alaikum as-salam†Chris returned the traditional greeting in fluent Arabic and bowed too.
As deep as he had.
“You look†he paused “as you say in English, well. This language is sometimes so prosaic. Where I do come from, many more words would be needed to express that!†The Chieftain of the Medjai said courteously.
Chris smiled back coyly “I am not a Woman of many Words, Ardeth Bey†“I noticed†the black-haired man smiled enigmatically “You let your Swords speak or your Music†“I prefer the latter†the Pianist smiled. The Chief of the Medjai smiled too “You are the Warrior Princess of the North. Your Hand is stronger than many Men´s.â€
The Pianist smiled “I found that many Men could not handle that a Woman bests them in almost any regard!†Chris paused and looked him directly in the Eye “Could you handle me, Ardeth Bey?†Her face was stern, but the Medjai noticed a twinkle in her emerald, green Eyes.
“You are direct Princess!†“Always†The Pianist smiled “You didn´t answer my Questionâ€.
The Medjai smiled “Why don´t we go for a walk? In your Culture that is customary when a Man and a Woman – how do you say – date?â€
“Do we have a Date?†Chris had grown fond of the Game “If you want it to be a Date?†Ardeth Bey smiled “It is also customary that a Gentleman bides his Arm the Woman!†He offered Chris his left Arm “The perfect Gentleman†The blonde chuckled and accepted the offered Arm “Lead the Way Lord of the Medjai!â€
Bernstein Manor: The Present:
Anna smiled at 007 as they walked across the Lawn “They are cute together James!†“Who?†The Agent with the License to kill feigned ignorance “Those two!†The Russian pointed at Chris and Ardeth Bey who were walking under the centuries-old Trees in the Parks, obviously talking animatedly “Ah†Bond stated “Those two†he smiled “His grin grew broader “So you just couldn´t resist Anna Alexandrovna. You had to play matchmaker!â€
The Russian had the Grace to blush – a bit “They are a beautiful Pair†she pouted and grew serious “Chris deserves some happiness after all. Think of Egypt, the Sands of Time, and the Heidelberg Affair. Chris does not talk about it, but she is not fully healed yet. She thinks we don´t notice.â€
Bond nodded “I think you are wrong Anna. I think she knows perfectly well but wants not to trouble you. And from what I know about her. You should know that she is not exactly the Person who advertises her Feelings and Emotions freely.â€
“I do know James!†Anna states exasperatedly “I do know!†The fiery Russian paused “But at times this is unnerving!†The Secret Agent raised his Eyebrows “That Japanese Thing!†Anna added, “I can read her very well, but I run just against a Wall at Times!â€
“And you don´t like that.†007 asked perfectly neutral “Don´t make fun of me James Bond!†Anna wagged a finger at him “I wouldn´t dare†the Agent acted shocked “I know you!†the Russian fired “Do you?†Bond smiled. He loved Anna´s Temperament – among other things. But he was a Gentleman after all.
“The Brides are beautiful!†he nodded at the Table where Hayley, Kirsty, and the Family were standing “They are!†Anna´s dark eyes were blazing “But don´t think for one moment James Bond I don´t know what you are doing!â€
“Which is Milady?†he asked politely “Evasive Manoeuvres!†Anna fumed “You are not answering my Question!â€
Bond chuckled “You would be quite the Actor Anna!†Anna stared at him, cheeks rosy “I would never make fun of you Anna Alexandrovna Romanova†he added and grinned “In Earnest!â€
Now Anna smiled “Very elegant Mister Bond!â€
She batted her Eyelashes coyly “I believe you, but you could do something more to convince me of your honourable Intentions!â€
Bond smiled “At your service Milady!â€

That remains to be seen my Friend

The large Dining Hall was a beehive. Buzzing with Conversations and unbridled excitement. Chris smiled and looked around. Her desire to trash Anna had evaporated quickly: She enjoyed the Stroll under the Trees with Ardeth Bey – and her heart told her, there might be an opportunity here, no, not only an opportunity.
Back then she had set aside that thought resolutely. Still, Ardeth Bey had fascinated her from the Moment of their first Meeting …. And she had felt that fascination again when they met today …. Something told her the Evening would be interesting … and the night … a small smile curled her lips.
Back then – in the Western Egyptian Desert - she needed all her strength and resilience to keep herself together. Anna´s Death had thrown her off Balance - totally. Chris had never felt that way – without one exception. She had regained her equilibrium just in time – thanks to a certain Canadian. And Ardeth Bey. Even if she had not realized that at the time.
The tall Blonde´s smile broadened “He will have to fight to gain the Price!†No, Chris would not be an easy Game.
She concentrated on the Present:
Working out the seating arrangements had been quite the Challenge. In the End, she and Natalie had come up with this Idea: There were eight large round tables. The Wedding-Planners had only placed one Card with Names on the Tables. Everybody could choose his place at the Table.
There was one Table for the Brides and the closest Family. Another for Family too. Chris and Natalie had seen to it, mixing friends of old and friends of new with each other. There had been obviously last-minute changes - Chris smiled:
Mysteriously Ardeth Bey had been seated on Chris's right side. Anna grinned knowingly at her best friend. Chris smiled back. She sensed Ardeth Bey´s powerful Presence. The Pianist had thought those Emotions were lost.
Meeting her old Friend Robert von Hardenberg during the Weinstein Affair had rekindled a flame, but Robert had had always difficulties accepting the two Sides of her: The great Artist and the Warrior
For Robert that has been an Antithesis. She had tried hard to persuade him, to see that there was no Contradiction at all. That she was both. The Artist and the Warrior. What made her the great Pianist she was, made her the Warrior, the Warrior Princess of the North too. Ardeth Bey had accepted that from the Moment they met first: She remembered the Moments before the Final Attack on the Enemies Stronghold, before the Storm broke lose, which would sweep away Hiram Al Mansour´s Reign of Terror:
“The Medjai on Horseback had lined up behind the crest of the Dune “Nervous?†Ardeth Bey had moved noiselessly “No†the blonde returned calmly “Not really, somehow it feels like before I step into the limelight on the Podiumâ€
The Medjai smiled enigmatically “You are most strange Christine von der Marwitz – a Warrior, an Artist, and a Woman†“I am†Chris smiled back warmly – and her smile reached her eyes “I am what I amâ€.
“Yes,†Chris thought “I am what I am – and Ardeth Beys accepts that.â€
At another table, Rihannon and Gayle sat “You are in for a disappointment Gayle†her Friend chuckled and nodded at the Table where Chris was sitting and chatting amiably with Ardeth Bey. He must have said something amusing because the Pianist laughed loud and clear “I know†Gayle huffed “I noticed.
Rihannon grinned “I warned you Chris would break your heart!†She smiled “But I can do something to console you, poor thing!†Gayle pouted “What could that be …†Her Compatriot grinned wilfully “I will show you later!â€
At Chris´ Table, Thane was touching Maureen´s left gently “They have arrived?†The Latina smiled “They have – only a few People know ….†The Gunny smiled “That will be quite the Show!â€
Allegra Cabbot had to admit – grudgingly and delighted – that the Wedding was a beautifully scripted event. Even to her high Standards, the Wedding Mass had surpassed her expectations. The Priest, the Musicians …. The Matriarch had had a Conversation at the Reception with the Priest.
Monsignore Don Cavalli had been quite charming and gracious. He had studied at Rome, at the Gregoriana! The new Woman at the side of her Son-in-Law? She had been surprised: Rachel Weinstein was a Patrician in the High Society of New York. She had to admit that Seamus King had chosen well. Grudgingly. Her Son-in-Law had surprised her.
Allegra Cabbot would not tell that anybody but in the Grand Duchesse and the blonde Pianist, she had found her Match. Not many people had left her lost for Words, but the tall dark-haired Russian had proven to be the Offspring of the Tsars – she had. Even if she would have gladly murdered the Russian …
The Blonde had been quite courteous as they had made a walk in the Park.
At another Table:
Sophie smiled at Evie “That is quite the Event, don´t you think?†The Egyptologist smiled back “It is!†She turned to Christina Howard “Tell me, where do you know the Brides from?†The Red Head smiled back “That is a long story!†Evie grinned “We have all the Time of the World! The first course is about to be delivered soonish!â€
“Well,†Christina smiled “You could say I was on the Dark Side of the Force back then ….â€
Ragna smiled at Ekaterina “Tell me, this is no fun!†“No Ãstkona, this is fun!†The Russian smiled. They had known each other for three years now “You learned my language Возлюбленный!†Gabriella grinned “Three Years?†The Chilean sounded intrigued “A Russian and an Icelandress, what is your story?†The herculean Blonde smiled at her Russian Companion “Shall you, or shall I?†Ekaterina beamed at her Lover “Why don´t you start?â€
“It was at Geneva†Ragna explained smiling “We met at the Opera …. Shostakovich it was …†“It was the “Mylady MacBeth of Mtensk!†Ekaterina supplied – her right hand resting on Ragna´s muscular left thigh.
The Icelandress smiled – and enjoyed the soft yet firm Touch.
Hayley looked around. She was so happy. Step by step she realized: She had married Kirsty. Kirsty was her Wife. Now and forever. Someone’s eyes rested on her, she felt it. The blonde looked up and she and her father´s Eyes met – Rachel smiled too “Cheers!†Seamus King raised his Glass “Slante!†Hayley raised hers too. Some of her still couldn´t believe all of this was real.
The same Part of Hayley King expected to wake up every Moment from a dream. She felt a warm hand on her right “This is real my love!†Kirsty smiled “I feel the same!†The Aperitif had been served already and the hors d’ouevres too, a Shrimp Cocktail, fitting for the Hamptons. The Guests could choose Shrimp Gazpacho Shooters as well and for the Vegetarians an iced Cucumber Soup.
The soft Music of the String Quartet accompanied the Celebration. The first course was about to be served.
To compose a well-balanced Menu had been another Challenge Chris and Natalie had found out and consulted with Sophie and Anna. One had always to consider that there were Vegetarians and Vegans among the Guests. A quick survey had shown there were few Vegetarians and zero Vegans under the Guests.
The first course was lobster Soup. Ekaterina beamed at Ragna “That is delicious! I never ate a better one!†The herculean Icelandress grinned “Chris told me that Nathalie and Chris spent some time working out the Details of the Menu. As you can see Seafood features prominently, actually I am looking forward to the second Course!†Ekaterina read the Menu Card “Scallops on Leaf Spinach in a coconut-lemongrass Sauce – with fried Rice Dumplings!â€.
As an intermediate course a lemon sorbet made of lemon pickle. Anna looked forward to the Lobster a l'Americaine.
“The Lobster is local,†The Russian told James who could not hide a smile “What!†the Violinist shot at him “I am always fascinated about your ravenous Appetite – without getting fat like an Ox!â€
“Just good Genes!†the Russian grinned – and I need my Strength – and you yours too Mr. Bond!†Her voice got huskier “I have great Plans for tonight!†She graced the Agent with the license to kill with a nice view of her cleavage “So do you, your Grace!†The dark-haired Violinist bashed her eyelashes coyly “I do Mr. Bond! I definitely do!â€
007 grinned “I chose the Steak made from Wagyu Beef – I ordered it raw. British raw – that is good for Stamina they say!†The Man with the license to Kill smiled – and Anna felt a sudden heat down South …Always a Gentleman Bond was pretending not to see the Violinist's reddening Cheeks “ “The Opus One of Robert Mondavi will go fine with it!â€
It was some time after the Main Course when Commissioner King rose. He looked around – at last at the Brides and warmth filled his heart. Hayley simply glowing, glowing from deep inside, beaming at him. It was such a wonderful sight, seeing his only Child finally happy and safe. There had been other times after Bethany had lost the battle against Cancer. Their Relationship had its ups- and downs. Good Days and Bad Days. But in the End, their common loss made their already strong bond stronger – strong like the 100 Times folded Steel of Chris´ Katana.
He looked at his Daughters right side:
There was Kirsty - her brother at her right side – also beaming. For a brief moment, the Commissioner took in the Sight and sent a short Prayer to his deceased Wife and Hayley´s Mother “Bethany! Wherever you are!†He knew, Bethany was here. Here, right now.
He looked down and laid his right Hand on Rachel´s left. Seamus King had never thought he could love another Woman again – till he had met Rachel. The tall voluptuous blonde Heiress smiled encouragingly at him. King looked at the Brides and inhaled deeply.
Hayley was surprised, obviously, her Father was about to speak entirely freely – without the Script, something Seamus King normally never did. Her father had many qualities – but being a great Orator? He never had been one before … She noticed the subtle Gestures between Rachel and her father “Rachel we will have a talk later!†Hayley grinned.
The Commissioner smiled warmly:
“Dear Hayley, dear Kirsty! Today we celebrated your Wedding with a wonderful and inspiring Mass! He turned to Chris, Anna, and Sophie – thanks to you!†He smiled at his Daughter “When I look at you Hayley many Pictures cross my mind!†He smiled because of fond memories “The young Girl running laughing into the Sea, here at the Hamptons, throwing herself in the Surf!â€
He grinned – and Hayley too!
He looked at his Mother-in-Law “There was the Hayley who spent more time outdoors than at the Piano!†The Bride blushed “There was the grown-up Hayley who told me she wanted to join the Force!†The Commissioner paused “And she did despite my Objections! Hayley can be as stubborn as her Father!†Chuckles all around “Probably more so!†Kirsty spoke just loud enough to be heard. More Laughter.
“And†King´s face grew soft “There is the Moment when I took Hayley into my Arms again – when she returned home – after so many Months! As she introduced Kirsty to me!†The Commissioner turned to Kirsty “It was a Surprise!†Seamus King smiled “But I felt you loved each other.â€
Notice to the Reader: Seamus King is referring here to Events in the Nothing Personal Saga of @mrjones2009 Hayley had been forced by Elizabeth Crawford to return to Mystery Island. Crawford, obsessed with Hayley, had held her Captive and compromised her. Only Chris´ Intervention had saved Hayley and Kirsty. Rachel Weinstein´s Connections had played an integral Part in restoring Hayley´s Reputation.
He smiled at the Brides “What can a Father wish more than his only Child be happy?â€
Hayley welled up; she couldn’t do any different.
“We have to thank another Person this evening†he turned to Chris “Not only for playing the Piano so marvellously today, not that I could tell a C-Major Accord from a C-minor one!†His Grin was infectious Chris found “You blush!†Anna grinned “Shut up!†The Pianist muttered, “My Promise to trash you still stands!†She felt her Cheeks burning – she had done what was right. Nothing more, nothing less “This was no great deed!†she bit her lip.
“As my Daughter told me†the Commissioner smiled “Christine would never advertise the Role she played in giving Hayley and Kirsty the Chance for a fresh start!†Chris blushed even more.
“But†he turned to the Monsignore “The Lord works in mysterious Ways!†Seamus King paused “As an Irish Man I should now†The twinkle in his Eyes betrayed him. Don Cavalli smiled. Hayley´s father grew serious “I am not a Man of many Words and so I will be brief “Two Souls whose Paths crossed by Chance married today! May the Lord bless them and keep them today and forevermore! Cheers!â€
He raised his Glass “To Hayley and Kirsty! Slante!â€
The Commissioner drained his Flute in one gulp.
“To Hayley and Kirsty!†The Audience shouted back.
Seamus King sat “You did well Seamus!†Rachel whispered. And touched his right Hand “For an Irish Man!†The Heiress grinned.
Seamus King smiled “We will have words about that later ….â€
Rachel Weinstein smiled mischievously “I can hardly wait, Commissioner King!â€
Nobody noticed that Chris and Ragna left the Table … Chatter filled the Great Hall, Conversations, the Clanking of Glasses. The Tides ran high.
Hayley felt relaxed, content, and very stuffed. The Dinner had been fabulous – and her Father´s Speech had touched her immensely – more than she could say.
“Satisfied?†Natalie chuckled amused “Very†the blonde sighed and rubbed her belly. “The Lobster was so tender!†Her best friend grinned “You took a second helping or even a third?†Hayley blushed slightly “No, it was a second helping only!â€
She looked around: The Mood all around was festive, relaxed, and exalted. The blonde looked at Chris´ table: Chris and Ragna were missing ….
“Where are Ragna and Chris?†Natalie smiled knowingly “Chris is preparing for a surprise – she did not intimate what though.†In an Afterthought the Detective added “Your Friend is very mysterious – I cannot read her!†Natalie sounded a bit miffed “I can read most people easily!â€
“Chris is not most people!†Kirsty grinned “And don´t worry – you are in good Company Natalie. There are very few people who can read Chris†She looked at the other table “Anna can, her Sensei can – but that´s it.â€
“I hate that!†Natalie Twain-Saltzman huffed “That is against God´s Laws, People I cannot read!†Hayley smiled “That is just Chris!â€
Kirsty added grinning “And she does not have a close Relationship with the Christian God†Natalie sounded intrigued “That Story, you must tell me!†Hayley grinned “Ask her!†she challenged her best Friend “She might kick your Ass though!â€
Natalie gulped.
“Listen!†Kirsty interrupted their banter “You hear that?†And then her Wife heard it too: A clear sharp clack, clack. Wood on Marble Stairs. Followed by other measured Steps. High-Heeled Shoes. Walking down the curved Stairwell, which led upstairs to the First Floor.
Other Guests had noticed the Steps too. Bit by bit the Chatter fell Silent as the Steps grew louder. Two Persons perfectly in Step. Measured. Solemnly. Kirsty looked at the Doors. Her Eyes widened:
Two Women stepped through the wide Doors.
They walked behind each other. Five, six Feet apart. Perfectly in Step. The Woman in Front wore a beautiful silken scarlet Kimono embroidered with gold and silver. She was tall. She was blonde. She wore her shimmering golden Hair in a knot like Japanese Noble Women on a Lithography like Hokusai´s.
Her Makeup looked like that of a Geisha in a Kurosawa-Movie: A Gleaming white face, coal-black eyebrows, deep cherry-red lips. Red, like blood. Emerald, green Eyes.
Behind her walked another blonde. Taller even. Wearing a dove blue gown. Striding along on high Platform Sandals. On her outstretched Arms, she carried two large rectangular lacquered Boxes and on top a third one. A third, smaller Box.
Steady.
Unwavering.
Hayley was speechless. Never had Chris looked more Japanese than in that Moment. Here in the Hamptons, at their Wedding, she realized fully how deeply ingrained the Japanese Culture was embedded in Chris´ DNA.
In the Centre of the Dining Hall, the two Women stopped. Ragna keeping the same Distance. Chris turned to the Brides´ table. Slowly. Elegantly. Measured. The Chatter had died down, like a thread cut with the Scissors.
Chris folded her hands before her breast – and bowed deeply, holding the Pose. One Minute, two Minutes. She rose again. The blonde turned on her Geta Sandals to face Ragna.
She folded her Hands before her Breast and bowed a second time. That was Anna´s cue: The Russian had risen and walked in measured Steps at Ragna. She bowed and opened the smaller wooden box on Top, took it, and presented it to Chris, who removed a Roll of Paper. She took the Roll, turned slowly on her heels, and strode in slow solemn Steps to the Table of the Brides.
Kirsty and Hayley exchanged a look. In an unspoken Agreement, they rose. The blonde took her Wife firmly by her right Hand. Hayley´s hand was quivering. Kirsty squeezed her tightly. Hayley relaxed. Chris´s closed the Distance till she stood six feet away from the round table. She felt all Eyes resting on her. But that did not mean anything. The Persons who mattered were the two Brides.
Kate and Castle watched mesmerized as Chris unrolled the Roll of Paper. From her place she could see that elegant Kanji in black ink were written on it “Must use this in my next Derek Storm Novel!†Castle whispered excitedly. Kate resisted the impulse to step on her Husband’s toes – again.
Beckett did not reply and watched as Chris held the Paper with both Hands, looked at the Brides, and began to recite loud, clear, and solemnly in Japanese. Kate had Chris heard speaking a few Times Japanese, but this was somehow different. The Foreign Language sounded austere. The Tone was solemn. The blonde´s eyes never left the brides´ – and the Detective had the distinctive feeling that Chris did not need the Roll of Paper at all.
Chris spoke for two Minutes, rolled the Paper together, and bowed before the Brides. Anna walked next to her and presented her with the wooden Box. Gently the Pianist lay the Roll back and closed the Box.
Hayley pressed Kirsty´s right “Come†she mouthed. They walked around the Table, till they stood before Chris, three or four feet distant. Anna had stepped to Chris's right Side and two steps back.
The Ghost of a smile crossed the Russian´s lips.
With the Box in her outstretched Palms, the Pianist closed the Distance. She bowed again, presenting the Box on her outstretched Palms to the Brides, and held the Pose. Kirsty and Hayley exchanged a look. The blonde nodded. The Briton closed the Distance and bowed before Chris, her Hands folded before her Breast, stood, and took the wonderfully crafted rectangular Box.
Chris rose, her hands now folded before her Breast. Kirsty bowed “Domo Arigato Christine Sama!†“Dou itashimashite Kirsty Sama†Chris returned in the formal way befitting for such an occasion. The Pianist turned on her Heels and walked in the same solemn measured Steps as before till she stood before Ragna, who held still two lacquered Boxes in her Hands.
“What is she doing now?†Natasha whispered excitedly to the Black Lady. Sarah McKenzie smiled like a Cat who was about to devour the Cream “She will dance! Lean back and enjoy!â€
Kirsty and Hayley followed the Proceedings with rapt Attention. They had taken their seats again. Kirsty had laid the lacquered Box before them on the Table. Kirsty´s right Hand rested on Hayley´s left. Breathlessly, the Brides watched the Scene unfolding before them. What was Chris about to do?
The Audience had fallen silent.
Anna walked to Ragna in slow measured steps, inch by inch the Aristocrat she was. She opened the black lacquered Box, retrieved the Katana, turned to Chris, bowed, and laid it on her friend's outstretched Palms. With an elegant Movement, the blonde inserted the Katana into her Girdle. In the meantime, Anna had laid the box on a round table and she and Chris repeated the same Ritual as before.
Finally, Anna and Ragna stepped back and took their Seats. Chris stood alone still a Statue in the Centre of the Hall; every Eye resting on her. She felt entirely focused. The blonde breathed in deeply and stepped out of her Geta´s. The Pianist exchanged a look with Ragna who produced a remote control.
Chris turned to the Brides and bowed. With one fluid Motion, she drew both Blades at once. Crossed both Blades before her breast. Also, in a fluid elegant Motion. Ragna pressed a button on the remote. The first tones of Ravel´s Bolero filled the Hall.
Mesmerized Hayley watched as Chris began to move in time with the Music, in slow measured Motions, executing Katas. She executed each Movement with utmost precision. As if in Slow Motion.
“Isn´t this beautiful?†Maureen whispered in awe “Beautiful but deadly†Thane returned without turning his eye away from Chris “It is not the Blades it is the Woman who wields them†The Gunny added lowly “She is the Weapon!†In an afterthought, he whispered, “Those blades, as beautiful as they are, they are tools, not toys! And she knows how to wield them! I would not want to face her when she is on the War Path!â€
With the slowly accelerating Tempo of the Music, the Speed of Chris´ Movements accelerated as well. Measured and controlled. Anna was deeply touched, and James was keenly aware of that, he pressed her right hand “You knew?†he whispered his eyes following Chris´ Dance with the Blades “Chris told me that she needed my assistance†Anna whispered back “I didn´t know about the Poem – and the Danceâ€.
With each Variation, Chris moved faster. Quick Combinations. It seemed as if she was attacking an invisible foe. Attack, parade, riposte. Every single movement in perfect Control. Chris danced with the grace of a Prima Ballerina.
By now the Pianist seemed to weave a bubble of gleaming Steal around her. Jabs, Strokes in all Variations: Backhand, Overhand. The whole Arsenal she commanded so easily. Chris attacked in a lightning-quick Combination, stepped back, and attacked again, quicker in time with Ravel´s Music.
Left-hand Strike. Right-hand Strike. Both Blades at once. Overhead Strike with the Left. Overhead Strike with the Right. Backhand Stroke with the left. In breathtaking Speed. Chris whirled around – attacking in the other Direction.
She executed a Stroke with both Blades – it would have severed his Head cleanly from his Neck. The Blades closed like Scissors around the invisible Neck. The Pianist turned swiftly on her Heels again – executing another Combination.
Perfectly in Time with the Music. Chris felt good, she was in the flow. She felt like in a Trance-like State. Entirely focused. Time felt like Amber.
Slowly the Music reached its Climax. The final Accord. Chris stood precisely at the Place she had started. She crossed the blades before her Breast again and bowed before the Brides.
Deeper than before. She did not sweat. Her Breath was perfectly normal. Chris rose again. And Hayley was not certain. It was difficult to tell because of the heavy Makeup. A slight smile seemed to curl her deep purple-red lips. It was a moment only.
But Hayley would never forget it.
She watched:
Now Ragna and Anna fulfilled the same Ritual before the Dance in Reverse. Chris slipped her Sandals on and strode outside the Dining Hall, followed by Ragna, carrying the two lacquered Boxes in her hands.
No sound broke the Silence.
As Chris and Ragna and Chris had left excited Chatter broke out. Very excited Chatter.
Hayley smiled at Kirsty “This was magical†The Briton nodded “I never will forget that Moment my love!†Hayley pointed at the lacquered Box “Open it!†With nimble Fingers, Kirsty opened the lid.
On red Velvet lay two rolls of Paper. With trembling Hands Hayley took the larger one and unrolled it “This Chris wrote for us Kirsty†she whispered and touched the Kanji.
Kirsty took the second Roll: It was made from handmade Paper, and it was sealed. The Briton recognized a Coat of Arms – it had to be that of the von der Marwitz. Kirsty had never seen Chris wearing a Signet Ring. She hesitated for a spell “Shall I break it here and now Hayley?†Kirsty was not sure. It felt like Sacrilege – to break the Seal. Hear and now.
Her Wife nodded “Do it!†With a decisive Motion Kirsty broke the Seal and unrolled the Paper Roll:
It had been written in black ink, in a clear elegant Hand. This Kirsty and Hayley read:
“Dear Hayley, dear Kirsty …...â€
Annotation:
Dear Readers, Kirsty and Hayley hope you understand that this very personal Letter with the Translation of Chris´ Poem shall be private.
Sophie smiled at Evie and Christina Howard “That was quite intense†The dark-haired Woman, who looked so much like the young Sophia Loren added thoughtfully “What is the Connection between Japan and Chris? That was like a Movie by Araki Kurosawa!†Christina Howard ventured.
Sophie looked at the Red Head “That is quite the Story†the Lawyer smiled “The long Version or the short one?†Christina chuckled “I think we have some time till Dessert is served – so why don´t you tell me the whole Story!†She grinned “This was like Shogun!†The American swooned “I was in love with Richard Chamberlain …â€
The Staff began to serve Dessert, it had been Sophie´s Idea: Tiramisu after her Nonna´s Recipe “So†she smiled “Chris´ father was a high-ranking Diplomat at the German Embassy in Tokyo. She grew up in Japan ….†Christine Howard listened with rapt Attention …
Chapter 12
The Celebrations after the Wedding:
The Dinner I

The Celebrations after the Wedding:
The Dinner I
“A Dance of Swordsâ€
The Great Hall:
Early Evening
