What’s your opinion on hoods in bondage?
Personally I like them a lot but I can understand why others wouldn’t like them. I think they bring a different look to the captive and make it more degrading and humiliating than just the blindfold while making it darker as well for the captive

If it is a nylon hood I absolutely love it, but leather hoods are not my taste.

Not a fan, I like to see the girl's face.
Might be ok for a kidnap fantasy though.

Nah don't like dark
It's good for a real kidnapping look. It could get hot quickly, though. I do generally prefer a blindfold for the look.

I can certainly see the appeal. They kind of provide a further level of "confinement" for the captive. However, I do like to see the person's face, so if there is one I'd only want it to present for part of the session/scene.
Soft nylon school gym bags are an excellent and safe idea for hooding if required

I’ve never tried a proper hood but I’d love to give it a go. I like the sensory deprivation it provides as well as the humiliation.
As a dom, I’d like to try one on the sub but I wouldn’t keep it on them the entire time.

- It adds another layer of bondage/gag/blindfold
- With the added layer comes added efficiency for sensory deprivation
- The dehumanization is hot, removing facial features is another way of control one has over the submissive
- The solid color it has (independently from the material is made) makes it attractive due to the contrast with skin/body, like when women wear boots or gloves
- It can also restrict airflow, which adds to the bondage itself, limiting the submissive's movements further
- They can't take it off easily, even if their hands are free
- If the hood is lockable, they are helpless until the lock is removed
- If it isn't lockable, it can be combined with a lockable collar to make sure they can't remove it, it also adds more bondage!
- I personally have tested them and the way the feel is amazing, it's like a hug all over the surface of your head. A blissful feeling of comfort and sexyness.

I like to use a nylon hood once in a while. It feels good against my skin and it adds another layer of helplessness and humiliation. With a tape gag and a sleeping mask for a blindfold, it gives you a real captive feel.
Just your average crossdressing damsel in distress...

I like to use a nylon hood from time to time either over a blindfold or in place of one. Never tried the leather ones.
I wear a hood for 99% of bondage sessions for pretty much all the reasons you’ve listed. The only time I don’t is when I’m trying to multitask and watching TV while having some tied-up fun.Flyingvulture wrote: 3 years ago I love them for a lot of reasons:

The hood that I have is made of heavy leather with nose holes and an open mouth. Added to that is a front panel penis gag which fits perfectly over the hood. Both the hood and gag lock, and separate collar is locked on to prevent the strap on the gag from sliding down.
To your last point, the feeling of having your entire head tightly wrapped in leather adds a whole new level of comfort and bondage bliss to the experience!
Not into them. I don't like how they hide the face.

Of course! I buy quite a bit of my gear from Mr. S Leather. They make some great premium quality leather gear that’s designed to last for years. They also have a form on their website that allows you to input your specific measurements as well—so if you need something in a custom size (e.g., hoods, sleepsacks, straightjackets), they can do that in many cases.
The exact hood that I have from them is their “Deluxe Rear-zip Tight Leather Hood†(SKU HT003) with the “No Eyes/Open Mouth†option. The gag that I use with this hood is their “Locking Front Buckle Gag†(SKU HT048L). The collar is similar to their “Fetters Locking Bondage Collar†(SKU SL001), though I don’t think that’s the exact model…it’s very close, though.
On their site, type “hood sizing†into their search bar. The measurements that you’ll need will come up. This includes a measurement for “Chin over Crownâ€. Since the whole purpose of buying an open mouth hood was to use it with the gag always inserted, I made this measurement with my mouth slightly open to ensure that the hood would be the perfect size. The hood would have been much too tight otherwise, had the measurement not been taken with an extended jaw. For even short bondage sessions, this would lead to jaw soreness/fatigue very quickly (as I’d found out with previous gear).
While the collar probably isn’t absolutely necessary, locking it on (after the hood, but before the gag) ensures that the gag strap doesn’t slide down to a narrower point on my neck…which it would, causing the the gag to become much looser (which would be a tragedy). Also, having a heavy leather collar on in addition to everything else really adds to the extreme face-hugging, “trapped†experience. So, this is a highly recommended addition.
I haven’t tried using earplugs with this setup before—but that’s on my short to-do list. While I’ve never incorporated earplugs before in bondage play, it seems like that would also be a great addition from a sensory deprivation perspective.
Lastly, I plan on buying either the “Open Eyes/Open Mouth†or “Pinhole Eyes/Open Mouth†version of this same hood to use in sessions in which I actually want some semblance of vision. I’ll also mention that there are two small nose holes in all three versions of this hood—so even with a gag tightly inserted and locked, there’s still sufficient air to breathe without any difficulty.
Hope this helps!

I don’t particularly like them, simply because they unsettle me somewhat.
Now…!
…that certainly doesn’t mean I condemn them; everyone gets into different aspects of this, and hoods are just one part of it.
I just mean that the notion is somewhat claustrophobic to myself…and naturally this extends to the recipient to an extent.
I can’t relax if I get the sense that anyone involved is stifled to a certain extreme.
Loose hoods like you see commonly in TV aren’t necessarily a problem for me…they tend to be loose & breathable; they aren’t appealing aesthetically to me, but nor do they detract. They typically come right off about as quickly as they go on.
But those sorts of hoods that are too tight / look leathery…(shudders) I couldn’t imagine myself or someone else wearing one without panicking.
Like I said, preference.
I suppose my fascination with tie-ups are more “classical†or “soft†or “light†in nature. Some good ‘ol rope, tape or cloth is all I really need.

I like that my thought of measuring my mouth as stuffed was spot on, or the hood would be too tight.

You’re most welcome, @Flyingvulture!
What hood(s) and gag(s) are you looking to purchase? This specific combination has worked really well for me, but I’m always looking for any reason to buy more bondage gear.

My wishlist includes proper mouth stuffing, there is a brand from Germany IIRC that makes a silicon made one, that holds the tongue in place, stuffs the mouth and works as a chewing device as well (like the boxing things).
Then after a lot of tape and cloth is wrapped around the wearer, a muzzle harness to keep it all in place, either under or over the hood.
A leather blindfold that has the under the nose hook would be amazing too.
And a posture collar
