Personally, I'd prefer a story with two well-established characters than ten characters you only get a brief look at. But you can definitely make it work with ...

Nice start - I like the dialogue, very short and snappy. You get the personality of both Jo and Rachel to come across really easily as well, interested to see where this goes.

BTW, I'm assuming that the gender tag is supposed to be F/F, rather than F/f?

This is great; I'm glad that I caught up on it. Sometimes a simple premise done well is all you need and that's exactly what this is - I really like Nick and Brooke's dynamic, but most of all, I like that they feel like real people. Looking forward to seeing more of them hopefully!

Not sure how useful this advice might be for you since you specifically mentioned the cleave-style thing, but a technique I use for ones where the lips are closed is to use a few strips of adhesive tape over the mouth (microfoam is the one I usually use since it's comfy) to actually seal it shut ...
