Chapter 1:
"I still dont know about this" Jaime says nervously. Running his hands though his medium length dark hair and leaning his head back onto the headrest of the passenger seat.
"Its going to be so much fun! Its nerve-racking the first time but dont stress!" Says McKenna in the driver seat
"I know. just, still..." He says half laughing to try and convince himself itll be fun. They driving down the salted winter roads and were still about 15 minutes away from "Lotus", the local Gay bar. They lived in a medium sized town outside Baltimore a ways. Hed moved there from PA some time ago.
Most of Jaime's life he had assumed he was straight. He didnt have anything against not being so, and was supportive of the Queer Community. He just never had any feeling to indicate he was otherwise. A bit into his 20s though he had his first crush on another man. It was a strange feeling. Something new he didnt realize was in there. Nothing came of the crush, but it was there never the less. Now there was this whole new side of him he realized he didnt know anything about. He confided in one of his close friends, McKenna. Shed was a lesbian whod come out some time ago. As hed hoped she was very supportive and helpful on his new journey to learning about this side of himself. Last week shed finally convinced him to go to Lotus for a "test drive".
"You need to just dive in and see what happens!" she said. "and who knows. Maybe some cute hunk will sweep you off your feet" She winked while jabbing him in the ribs with her elbow. Jaime rolled his eyes at that, still apprehensive about the whole thing.
"But seriously. Itll be good for you. And Ill be with you the whole time! I wouldnt let anything bad happen to you, you know that" She reassured.
So he was convinced. It was friday night now. He got dressed in what he considered a fun public casual outfit for a night out in low key area. A pair of casual khaki pants, his black converse, a fitting, but slightly loose dark green knit pullover, and his favorite black beanie he liked to wear slouched back on his head
---------------------------------------------------
When they arrived, he hesitated outside, but McKenna looped an arm through his and yanked him along "come on scardy cat. The quicker we go in, the quicker we can get you a drink, and the quicker we can have fuuuun" She laughed
Upon entering he took it all in. It was packed. The lights, the music, the people. It honestly wasnt any different than any other club hed been to, but his own anxiety hed let build up in his head had him acting like everyone was looking at him. He immediately made a beeline for the bar. Downing a shot to get a headstart and a beer to nurse for a while. Didnt want to go too crazy
McKenna came dancing up to him "Isnt this great!" She yelled over the music trying to help him lighten up. As the shot did its work he did start to feel himself untense his shoulders a bit.
"Yeah I suppose it does look like everyones having a great time" He said back. Scanning the room. Couples and groups of all sorts were mingling, dancing, laughing. It was a great atmosphere. Some people looking casual and low key, some with very eyecatching outfits...and wait whos that? the thought dances across Jaime's mind. A guy around his age making his way through the crowd, caught his eye for some reason. He was blonde, with a dark red pullover similar to Jaime's green one. And then he was gone
-----------------------------------------------------
The night wen on, and Jaime was starting to catch his stride. He danced with McKenna, chatted with some of her casual friends she introduced him to. Every once and a while catching a glimpse of the blonde in the red sweater. Ordering a drink, talking with another group of guys that seem to be his posse. He shook his head again trying to pay attention. McKenna was introducing him to a girl shed just started talking to, Ren. They definitely were cute together. Eventually after more drinks, the two girls decided they wanted to dance and went to disappear into the crowd. McKenna turned back before departing and yelled to Jaime "Im right here if you need me! have fun! dont go getting yourself kidnapped!" She laughed and vanished into the sea of people
Jaime stood there a moment wondering what to do now. He was by himself in this new place. He took another sip of his drink and turned to walk to the bar. He spun and immediately froze. His eyes widening slightly. The blonde was standing right there only a foot away, locking eyes with him, smiling.
Jaime just stood there like a doe in headlights. His mouth actually falling open partially before he snapped it back shut. The blonde waited a moment, picking up on Jaime's obvious reaction. He smiled and took it in stride. "Hi" He said. His voice confident but friendly. Instantly portraying someone absolutely comfortable in their own skin and knew the effect they had on others. "Im Nick" He said again. Still smiling, still obviously trying to give Jaime the time he needed to collect himself and respond. Seeing that he still had not managed to do so, Nicks smile grew bigger. "Can I buy you a drink" He said and half turned gesturing to the bar.
Jaime at least managed a small shy nod
