It was the early evening of Hallowe’en, as the black unmarked van pulled up onto the driveway of the house. The sky was already beginning to darken, as the driver looked round.

“Well, we’re here,” Steve said quietly, “you have both read the brief for this visit.”

Both the men with him nodded as one said, “so this is a nice, simple request?”

“It is John – no problems, but as always, we do not start until I have explained everything, and the paperwork is signed. Brian – you have all the equipment with us?”

“As requested, Steve – so we need to go in.”

“Okay then – let me go in first, get everything sorted, and then I’ll signal for you to come in.”

The other two men nodded as Steve got out of the car and looked round, his brown duster fastened over his other clothing, before he walked up to the front door and rang the bell. It was answered by a woman in her thirties, wearing a long-sleeved black dress with a deep neckline. The skirt was tight down to the knees and then flowed out, her long blonde hair falling over her shoulders, her feet in a pair of black laced ankle boots.

“Mrs Stevens?”

“I’m Samantha Stevens,” the woman replied.

“My name is Steve – I am here from UBS; you booked a session with us?”

“Ah yes – please, do come in,” Samantha said as she stood to her side, Steve smiling as he came in and waited for Samantha to close the door. As he opened his coat, she saw the black leather shirt, dark pants and combat boots.

“I see you do dress the part?”

“All part of the service, Ma’am – can we talk in the front room?”

“Of course,” Steve said as they walked in and sat down. He took the slim case he was carrying under his arm and opened it, as he said “so, you have booked us for a Hallowe’en special session, correct?”

“That’s right,” Samantha said, “for me and my daughters.”

“Would it be possible to meet them?”

Samantha nodded as she called out “Tabitha, Sabrina – will you come in please?”

Steve looked at the door as two young girls came in.

“Hello- can you tell me your names please?”

“I’m Tabitha,” the taller girl said, “and I’m ten – a year older than Sabrina here.” Both girls had short blonde hair and were wearing short sleeved black dresses with a knee length skirt hat had a zig-zag hemline. They were also wearing black ballet slippers and had witches’ hats on their head – Steve noticed the larger one next to Samantha.

“All right, Tabitha, Samantha, I need to explain what your mother has booked. I have two friends with me – and when we start, we are going to be the witch hunters, and you,” he said as he looked at the three of them, “are the witches we are hunting. When we find you, we will put you all to trial and then pass judgement. Now, are you happy for us to do that?”

Both girls nodded as Steve said “that means we may have to tie you and your mother up. Are you happy with that as well?”

“As both girls nodded, Samantha smiled and said, “so what exactly will you do?”

“Sorry, Mrs Stevens, that would spoil the surprise – but we will accommodate your request as well.” He opened the case and pulled some papers out, saying “this is a legal release which you need to sign, and also permission papers that you have agreed to this session. If you would please sign and date where indicated?”

Samantha nodded as she took the pen from Steve’s hand, read and signed the documents, and then handed them over. Steve reviewed them, and then put the papers away as he stood up.

“Excellent – we will start in a few minutes, if you would like to get ready?”

“Thank you again,” Samantha said as she walked Steve to the door, The girls giggling as they went to the kitchen. As thew door closed, Steve smiled as he walked over and banged on the side of the van.

“All good,” John said as he opened the door.

“All good – camera check?”

“Recording,” Brian said as he looked over, Steve’s face on the screen as he put on the cowboy hat, the other two doing the same as they stepped out in the same outfit, John carrying a canvas bag.

“Gentlemen,” Steve said, “there be witches here. Shall we put them to the trial?”

“Aye, we will.”

They all pout on their hats as they walked up to the front door, groups of kids starting to walk down the street in costumes as Steve turned the handle and they walked in. Each of them drew a toy revolver from the belt of their pants, as they heard the chanting from the front room.

“Hubble Bubble, Toil and Trouble…”

Steve counted to three and then threw open the room to the door, as Samantha, Tabitha and Sabrina looked over. They were all wearing their witch’s hats, and standing round a large plastic cauldron, a green light coming out from under it.

“Who are you,” Samantha said, “how dare you…”

“Freeze witches.” Steve and the other two pointed the toy guns at the three of them, all of them stopping and staring at them. “Hands in the air, and not another word.,”

The three witches looked at each other, and then slowly raised their hands before Samantha gestured with her hand.

“Do that and it’s the kids who die,” Steve growled, as Samantha slowly turned her hand back round. “Your reign of terror ends here -

"Your reign of terror ends here." Steve said. “Gentlemen – secure the young witches.”

“No – don’t hurt them,” Samantha called out as Brian and John put their guns back in the belt of their pants, and drew from the bag lengths of rope, which they carried behind the two girls before they pulled their wrists behind their back and started to bind them together.

“I feel so weak,” Tabitha said as Samantha looked at Steve.

“The rope is blessed – it will weaken you all, make sure you do not try to escape.” She watched as her daughters pretended to struggle, while their wrists were secured, and then rope was passed round their stomachs and arms to keep them more secure, as well as round their upper arms.

“You fiends…”

“You are the fiends in this town,” Steve said as the other two came over, covering the family as he put his gun down and collected ropes.

“Mother, what will they do to us,” Sabrina said as she twisted in the tight ropes.

“Do not be afraid,” Samantha said as she felt the rope rubbing on her wrists while Steve secured them behind her back, “They will not succeed.”

“Do not have faith in the Evil One,” Steve said as he passed the rope round Samantha’s arms and body, framing her chest as the two bands of rope framed her chest, “for he is not the true God. Only repentance can save you now.”

“Only repentance,” Brian and John chanted as Steve tied the ropes off, and then fetched a roll of tape from the bag.

“What is that for?”

“Even bound, you may still cast spells,” Steve said as he tore the end free and wrapped it round the fingers of each of them, “this will prevent that as well. Prepare to silence them.”

“Br brave, little ones,” Samantha whispered as Brian and John rolled up teow black cotton scarves and pulled them between the lips of the two girls, tying the ends at the base of their necks, both of them mumbling as they watched Steve gag their mother.

“Take them – to the trial arena.”

Brian and John took Tabitha and Sabrina by the arms and walked them put of the room, Steve making Samantha walk at gunpoint out to the backyard. It was surrounded by a high picket fence, and there was a barbecue pit dug to one site.

“Secure them to the frames.”

The family were walked over toa swing set, Samantha standing against the centre support and her girls at either side, as rope was passed round their waists, ankles and legs to secure them to the metal. Steve then nodded as Brian and John gathered some of the wood that stood to the side and put it in the pit, John lighting the fire as Brian walked back into the house.

“Whhthrugghhndthdh,” Samantha growled as she twisted round, the cloth getting damper in her mouth.

“We will subject you to three trials,” Steve said, “and they will determine your fate.”

“Whttrhtrhlss?”

“Trial by fire, trial by poison, trial by water.”

The girls watched as Brian came back and checked the fire, while Steve said, “we begin with trial by Fire – prepare the wax!” Brian nodded as he threaded marshmallows onto some wooden skewers, and then placed them at the edge of the fire.

“Are we prepared?”

“We are prepared,” Brian said as he looked at the charred marshmallows.

“Very well – remove the gags, let the Trial by Fire purge the unclean words from their lips.”

John nodded as he pulled the gags from the girls, and then Samantha watched as the girls had the hot soft marshmallows pushed into their mouths, and they smiled as they chewed the gooey food before Samantha was given one as well.

“Do they pass?”

“They have been cleansed,” Brian said as the family nodded, Steve nodding as he said, “very well then – we progress to Trial by Poison.”

“No,” Samantha said “take me, spare them.”

“All or none,” Steve said as John put a chalice and three plastic glasses on the table by the fire pit and poured purple juice from the chalice into each of the glasses.

“You’ll never defeat us,” Tabitha said as she squirmed round, and then she saw John walk over with a glass.

“This is the blood of those of your coven we have taken so far, as you drink of it, you share in their fate.”

Tabitha closed her mouth and shook her head, until John pinched her nose closed and waited for her to open her mouth to breathe. After she did so, John let her drink from the glass, Tabitha pretending to choke as she let her eyes close, and her head fall to the side.

“NO!”

“Yes,” Steve said as John made Sabrina drink from the second glass, the young girl shaking and then pretending to faint as well. John then put the third glass to Samantha’s lips and made her drink, but she stared at him and said, “This will not kill me, I am too strong.”

“I know, so you endure Trial by Water. Bring forth the Purifiers.”

“I will fetch them,” Brian said as he left the yard, returning with three Super Soakers that had crosses attached the barrels. Samantha’s eyes opened wide as they took one each and potted the guns a tall three.

“Trial by Water – begin!”

Tabitha and Sabrina opened their eyes wide as the cold water hit all three of them, and they laughed as the ropes got tighter under the streams. The men all smiled as they emptied the barrels on all three of them before Steve said “Enough! They have been cleansed!”

“Praise God,” Brian and John said as all three of them laughed.

“Release them – they are to be welcomed back into the throng,” Steve said as Brian and John walked over, “I go to prepare their seats.”

As the family were untied, Steve walked back into the front room, and placed some towels on the long couch seat and back, before Samantha, Sabrina and Tabitha walked in and sat down, their arms and upper bodies still bound.

“Well,” Steve said with a smile, “did you have fun?”

“Yes, thank you,” Samantha said as she looked at the girls, “it was amazing.”

“Well, we need to complete our assignment,” Steve said as she untied Samantha’s arms and wrists, but then put her hands together palm to palm in front of her and re-tied the rope round them.

As he did this, Brian knelt and re-tied the ankles and legs of Sabrina and Tabitha, as they looked at their mother.

“What’s going to happen Mum,” Tabitha said.

“Well, I want to watch some scary movies with my girls,” Samantha said with a smile, “so the Hunters have something special for you.”

John came back in with two pumpkin buckets which he put on the laps of the two girls, both of them seeing the candy inside.

“I need to have my hand sot give you your food,” Samantha said with a smile as Brian turned on the television and found a film channel. As Hocus Pocus started, Samantha gave them each a chocolate bar as Steve said, “Enjoy the rest of your evening girls – your mother has some scissors for later.”

“Thank you – for everything.”

“Our pleasure, Ma’am,” Steve said as he touched his cap, the three of them leaving the family to enjoy their time together…

Glad to see another tale of UBS after a long, long time. Are we going to see another one of their tales soon enough?

Well - how about a family Thanksgiving gathering with a difference, where the meal is prepared but nobody is able to help...

Nice. Hope it can be much more detailed than this one. I can't wait until Thanksgiving to see what they're up to...
