As he sipped from the coffee cup, he looked at the detached house across the road, surrounded by the high walls. If this went well, he knew he would have enough funds to ensure he could be comfortable for a couple of months. But that was not the only thing on his mind as he looked out of the window. His mother had left a short while before – they always met before he did what he felt he had to do – and she looked tired. Was that bastard hitting her? She claimed she was not, but even so…

It was Kerry he was most concerned for – if he touched her…

Meanwhile, however, there was work to be done. The family who lived in the house opposite were very wealthy, and he knew for a fact there was no man about the house at the moment. A friend worked for him and had informed him of how much he really did not like him.

So, in a way, he was helping his friend to get a little satisfaction - he felt it was the least he could do. After all, one good turn deserves another…

He finished his coffee and looked in the bag by his side. He had all he needed – the wife, her daughters – and he knew now to bring extra supplies as well. It was always good to be prepared. Smiling, he picked the bag and headed out of the café, looking before he crossed the road and walked quickly up the driveway to the main door. Once there, he stopped for a moment and prepared himself…

“You ready yet,” Nancy said as she checked her reflection in the mirror. Her long brown hair fell down the front of her denim jacket, which she was wearing over a black and white striped minidress over a black top. The skirt barely came down her thighs, and she was wearing a pair of cream coloured leather shoes with high heels.

Smiling after she had fixed her lipstick, she put it into her black handbag and then walked into the front room. As she walked in, she turned and saw her eighteen-year-old sister Naomi walk down the stairs. She was a year older, but they looked very alike with the same shade of long hair. Naomi was wearing a tight white top with a deep neckline, a short grey skirt that barely covered her bottom, and the same shade of leather shoes as her sister.

As she walked into the room, she closed her handbag which matched her shoes, and said “well, we need to get going to the station if we are going to meet up with the girls tonight. The train leaves in thirty minutes.”

“Yeah – now who the hell could that be,” Nancy said as she heard the knock on the door.

“I’ll go and check,” Naomi said as she walked back into the hallway and answered the day. A young man was standing there, wearing a black leather jacket over a dark jumper and jeans as well as trainers. He his was black, cut short – but he was also wearing latex gloves, and a black eye mask.

“I am Hell,” he said quietly, “an di am here to rob you. Step back inside.”

“You have got to be joking…”

“Does this mean I’m joking,” he said as he took the knife out of his jacket pocket and looked at Naomi, “now do as I say and step back.”

Naomi slowly walked back as he came in, closing the door with his foot as he held a bag in his other gloved hand. “You… You’re not joking, are you?”

“I said my name was Hell – and Hell never jokes. Now, where is your mother and sister?”

“My mother is out – Nancy…” She glanced to the front room, Hell smiling as he said “good – keep those hands where I can see them and walk in front of me.”

“So, who was it,” Nancy said as she looked up, and then he she stood up as she saw her sister walk in with her hands in the air, and the masked man following her. “Who… Who are you?”

“I am hell, and I am here to rob you,” the young man said, “now raise your hand sin the air, and both of you sit down.”

“What do you want?” Nancy watched as the young man put the bag down and said “I need to make sure neither of you can stop me. Do exactly what I say, then you won’t get hurt.” He opened the bag and took out a black velvet sack, before he said “I want you to remove your jewellery, money, credit cards and place them in this sack – one at a time.” Looking at Naomi, he said “you first – and hand me your mobile phone as well.”

Nancy watched as Naomi slowly picked up her purse and opened it, removing the pink backed iPhone and handing it over before she placed her money and cards in the bag, and slowly removed the jewellery she was wearing. She then handed the bag to her sister, raising her hands again in the air as Hell watched them both.

“All right, you have our stuff,” Nancy said as he took the bag back, “Just what are you going to do now?”

“When are you expecting your mother home?”

Naomi and Nancy looked at each other before he said, “I need to wait for her – which means you have to wait for her as well.”

“But…”

Hell raised the knife as Naomi said, “all right – what are you going to do to us?”

They watched as he opened the bag and took out several lengths of white rope. “Shuffle forward,” he said as he walked behind the couch, “and then slowly, take your hands behind your back, palms together.”

The two girls looked at each other before they obeyed Hell’s command and felt the rope rubbing on their bare wrists as he secured them tightly together with the rope. Naomi bit her lower lip as the rope rubbed not her bare wrists and then felt it going between her arms. She watched as he bound her sister’s wrists in the same way, and then saw the way her chest was forced out as Hell passed the longer rope round Nancy’s body and pulled it tight, forcing her arms against her sides.

“That hurts,” Nancy said as the ropes were pulled tighter.

“It could hurt more, so be quiet,” Hell said as he tied the ropes off, and then bound Naomi in the same way as her. The ropes were tight, true, and it had hurt, but as she relaxed, she found it wasn’t as bad as it could have been…

“Now,” he said as he walked round, Naomi twisting round, “are you going to make any noise?” Both women shook their heads as he walked into the hallway, disconnecting the phone and unplugging their internet connection before he came back in and knelt down. He took more ropes from the bag, crossed Naomi’s ankles, and then bound them tightly together, before a second band went round her legs below her knees.

“I guess we’ve missed the train,” she said quietly as she watched Hell bind her sister’s legs in the same way. Nancy nodded as he tied the ropes between her legs and then stood up, saying “now – your mother?”

“She… She was not due back until after seven,” Nancy said, “we were going to lock up and see her when we got back…”

Hell smiled as he said “your plans are changed, I promise you. Do you promise not to raise the alarm or call out?”

As both of them nodded, he turned on the television and said “good – get comfortable, I can wait…”

“I was surprized to see you at the office,” Deborah said as she drove down the street, “you were meant to be away this weekend?”

“I know – but that got cancelled,” her mother Lucy said as she sat in the passenger seat. The sixty-five-year-old was wearing a black leather blouson jacket over a black jumper, and a long black leather skirt which came down over her knees, covering the tops of her high black leather boots. Deborah was in her office outfit – her blonde hair falling over a dark grey jacket with a blue blouse underneath, a matching knee length skirt, and high heels.

“So, what are you going to do instead?”

“Well, the girls are out tonight, right?”

“Right – and?”

“Let me order some food in and a bottle of wine, and we can have a mother-daughter night without the granddaughters.”

Deborah shook her head as she said “I guess we could do that” as they drove off the road and parked at the front of the house. Both women go tout, Lucy adjusting her glasses as she looked down the darkening street.

“Well, let’s…” Deborah put her door key into the lock and tried to turn it.

“Something wrong?”

Deborah looked at her mother as she said “the door… It’s not locked.”

“Maybe they forgot to lock it?”

Deborah shook her head as the door opened inwards, and she walked in, Lucy following her as they heard the television playing -but there were no lights on, casting the hallway in a grey light.

“Hey – Naomi, Nancy, are you here?”

There was no answer as the two older women walked in the front room and saw the light been cast by the television screen – and the two teenagers sat on one of the two couches, their hands behind their back and their chests somehow more prominent.

“Girls?”

“Hey Mum,” Naomi said, “surprise.”

“I thought you were going out?”

“Yeah, well- our plans got changed.”

Lucy put on the main light – and then both women gasped as they saw the bands of rope that were making sure the two girls stayed on the couch.

“What the hell…” Deborah ran forward and said “I need to get you free…”

“Good choice of words, Mum - Hell,” Nancy said.

“Why?”

“Deborah…”

She turned to see the masked young man behind her mother as Lucy slowly raised her hand sin the air – and then she saw the knife in his latex gloved hand.

“I am Hell,” he said quietly, “and I am here to rob you.”

“You’re what?”

“He is Hell, and he is here to rob us,” Naomi said quietly. “He’s not joking Mum.”

Deborah slowly raised her hand sin the air as he smiled and said “much better. Sit on the armchair and put your hands on your head.”

“Has he hurt you girls,” Lucy said as she looked at both of them.

“No Gran,” Nancy said as she twisted round, “and I thought you were away this weekend?”

“And I thought you were going out -plans change, true?”

Naomi nodded as she said “they are going to wonder why we haven’t turned up you know. Look, we’re your captives – but can I call them and let them know we’re not coming? I swear, I will not reveal what is going on here.”

Hell looked at her, and then nodded as he said to Lucy “Slowly slip your handbag off and hols it to the side, and then remove your jewellery and place them in the black sack to your other side.”

“Okay,” Lucy said as she held her bag put and saw the gloved hand take it, then slowly removed her rings, necklace and earrings before putting them into the sack.

“Thank you - now, put your hands behind your back.” As Lucy did so, he put the knife back in his jacket pocket, Deborah watching as he started to bind her wrists together behind her back.

“So, you’re robbing my daughter?”

“I am,” Hell said as he tied the ropes off, and then wrapped a longer rope round Lucy’s arms and body, pulling it tight behind her back.

“Why?”

“Why am I robbing your daughter?”

“Well, yes -but why call yourself Hell?”

As he pulled the ropes round her arms tighter, he said quietly “your daughter is wealthy, and she will not miss what I take. As to why I am Hell - life is Hell, lady, and I am honest.”

Lucy grunted as he secured her arms, and then said “it’s surely not that bad?”

“You are privileged, you have no idea. See that couch – walk over and sit on it.”

Nancy and Naomi wriggled round as their grandmother walked to the longer couch and sat down, Deborah watching as he knelt down and used more rope to secure her ankles together, then wrapped another length round her leather skirt above her knees and pulled it tight so that her legs were held together.

“Well, girls, I guess I am staying here with you,” Lucy whispered as she was helped to lie on her side, and then he walked over to Deborah.

“Your turn – stand up, hands behind your back.”

“What are you going to do,” Deborah asked as he felt the rope rubbing on her wrist as they were forced together.

“Take you for a walk round the house,” Hell said as he looked at Lucy, Naomi and Nancy. “Can I trust you three not to try and call for help?”

“What happens if we can’t?”

“I gag you now.”

Lucy looked at the other two and said “no – we’ll be quiet.”

“Good,” he said as he forced Deborah’s arms against her sides and tied the rope off behind her. “Come with me.” He guided Deborah out of the room and towards the stairs as Lucy wriggled on the couch, both girls hearing the squeaking sound of leather rubbing on leather.

“Are you all right Gran?”

Lucy nodded as she said “he scared me, but he has not actually harmed us, apart from doing this.

“But why is he doing this?”

“Maybe your mother will find out…”

“Whose room is this,” he said as he opened the door and made Deborah walk in.

“Naomi’s,”

“Fine – sit on the bed,” he said as Deborah sat down, and he started to open and search through the drawers.

“I get you robbing us for our valuables,” she said, “but why Hell?”

He looked at her as he emptied a box into his black sack, and said “because my life is Hell lady – I have nowhere to live, no way of getting state support because I do not have a place to live, so I have to fight for everything – so my life is hell – so I am Hell.”

Deborah stared at him before she whispered, “you’re kidding.”

“Do I look as if I am kidding,” he said as he emptied another box. “Stand up – I’ve checked this room out.”

“What do you think they are doing up their Gran?”

“Honestly, “Lucy said as she looked over to the other couch, “stealing your jewellery and your mother’s. I get the feeling he’s doing this because e- he has to.”

“Nobody has the right to take our things,” Nancy said angrily.

“I know – but something tells me this is what he has to do to survive.”

“But surely he can get benefits, support…”

“These days, I’m not so sure,” Lucy said as they heard the footsteps upstairs.

“I regret you hand your family have to be treated in this way,” he said as Deborah sat on her bed, “but I am sure someone will find you.”

“Will you let my daughter call?”

He nodded as he said “thank you for your cooperation,” Deborah watching him empty the last tray of jewellery into her bag before he helped her to stand up and they walked down to the main room.

“Has he robbed us?”

Deborah nodded as she sat down, Hell picking up the pink iPhone and then saying, “who do I call?”

“Babs.”

He pressed on a contact and then held the phone to Naomi’s ear.

“Babs – hey, how are the girls?

“Yeah, I know – but Nancy had a slight stomach problem, and she’s gone to bed.

“I’m fine, but it’s unfair for me to come alone, so I stayed back.

“I’ll tell her that,” she said as she looked at her sister, “and we’ll see you next week.

“Have fun – bye for now,” she said as she nodded, and he ended the call. “Thanks – they won’t try and find or call us now.”

“Thank you for doing that,” he said as he took more ropes and knelt down, crossing and binding Deborah’s ankles tightly together so that the hems of her pant legs flared out under the tight bands. He then secured her legs together below her knees, as Lucy said “you’re going to have to keep us quiet before you go, aren’t you?”

“I do – but you will all be fine,” he said as he tied the last rope off and then stood up. Looking past the curtains, he saw how dark it was outside, and then said, “and that time has come.” Walking to his bag, he took out a roll of brown sticking plaster and tore a strip off, looking at Deborah as he said, “purse your lips.”

She felt the tug on her skin as the brown fabric was pressed down over her mouth, and then watched as one by one her mother and daughters were gagged in the same way.

“Stay calm, don’t struggle – someone will find you eventually,” he said as he picked up his bag and left, the four of them looking at each other as the front door opened and closed.

“Don’t worry Mum – I’m fine, and I got a good payout,” he said as he looked out of the hotel room window. “I’m going to go and grab something to eat, and then get a good night’s sleep.

“Give Kerry a kiss for me. I love and miss both of you,” he said as he ended the call, and then picked his jacket up.

The Next Night

“Have you heard this,” he said as he sat in the armchair, looking at the television as she did the ironing. Kerry was in bed asleep, as the local news reported the aggravated burglary, how four women had been found by a police constable who had walked past and seen the front door was open.

“Were they hurt?”

“Tied up and gagged – the bastard threatened innocent women,” he said as he took a drink from the can. “If he came here, I would show him…”

She shook her head. Maybe it was time she was as brave as her son and left him…
