I'm sure something like this has been asked before but I'm curious to see people's opinions. This could be your favourite in terms of effectiveness or just how it looks.

Duct tape, forever and always. I know that it ranks lower in terms of effectiveness (at least when it’s used like it is in movies and TV shows), but it just looks so good to me. I love when it’s applied tightly enough so that you can see the outline of a person's lips, and I also love the way it distorts their face so that it almost looks like a weird smile. And don’t get me started on how amazing those ripping noises are.

Ballgag is my all time favorite, they just look sexy and feel sexy too....a very close second is mouth stuffed with either socks or panties and tape wrapping around

Definitely Duct Tape all around my mouth. Then on occasion the cleave gag and OTM Gag.

I simply can’t decide. That’s probably why I keep several different types of gags in my gear bag.

I bounce back and forth between OTM gags & tape gags.

OTM gags are probably my favorite; both in terms of appearance and how it feels.

A few strips of duct tape smoothed over the mouth is a close second, however.

And of course, the two combined.

My absolute favorite is a knotted cloth cleave gag followed up by a tight over the mouth cloth gag or two. A close second would be a knotted cloth cleave with a few pieces of tape over the top. Bronze medal goes to a stuffed tape gag covered (partially with a little of the tape peeking out) with a otm cloth gag.

My favourite gag has less to do with either effectiveness or look, and much more with purpose for myself as the captive. To be frank, my favourite gag would look silly at best, and cruel at worst, but it is as follows: my mouth stuffed with my wife's worn gym socks or worn panties, right after a workout, taped shut with several rounds of coloured duct tape to prevent any air from passing through the mouth, and then another pair of her worn panties, or one of her used running shoes, taped with microfoam-tape to hold it in place over my nose.

To be honest, this is an extremely rare (could count on one hand the number of times I've actually done it in my life) thing I've done, and it was always just for a few minutes. The purpose: to become totally spellbound by my wife's sweat and bodily scents, while I'm bound. Does it look cool: nope, just silly, hence why we never kept any of the pictures. Is it effective: nope, given that it cannot be used for longer than just a few minutes realistically, at least in my case (your own millage may vary), and that it results in pretty audible heavy breathing through the nose, and eventually through the sides of the duct tape if it gets unstuck (not always, but did happen a couple of times).

But the memory of those rare occasions, and the ongoing fantasies in the mind revolving around those memories: priceless. Do be careful and constantly mindful, with a caring partner, if you every try to enact something like this (do not do severe gags in self-bondage).

As far as looks go, I’ve got to vote for a classic ball gag…in red, of course! I also love ball gags in how they effective they are at making a captive drool…that just adds to the overall look, in my opinion. Also, while they aren’t necessarily designed to prevent a person from making noise…gag-speak with a ball gag in place is such a turn-on for me.

From an effectiveness standpoint, I’m a big fan of leather panel gags. They tend to really fill the mouth, while the panel around the mouth ensures that little sound can actually be made. Coupling a panel gag with a tight leather hood and collar combo does a fantastic job of muffling any noise that a captive tries to make.

Wow, @tiedinbluetights, that sounds amazing! It’s fantastic that your wife indulges in your fantasies as well! Might I ask how involved she is in this “process”? Does she know that this is such a huge turn-on for you? If not, would you ever have that conversation with her (so you could have it more often)?

Also, next time, maybe think about taking (and keeping!) some pictures! Even if you and your wife think you look incredibly silly with her panties or socks stuffed in your mouth and shoes taped up to your nose. From a personal perspective, I’m not really into “humiliation” play (I mean, at least I don’t think so), but it’s always exciting to see some of our photos from recent/past sessions (especially in ones that I’m drooling, in diapers, or some otherwise weird/silly situation). It’s thrilling being able to re-live those weird and helpless moments whenever I want.

My wife and I have talked several times about how much bondage, both tied-up and gagged inescapably, is not just a huge turn-on for me but also something I crave and is essential for me when I get overstressed. It is the most effective way for me to relax and reduce my stress levels to managable levels.

But bondage is not really her thing. Plus, I'm a bit a masacist, and like some amount of torment and pain while bound-up, my story My Personal Longest Session (M solo, F/M) (MA) goes into greater detail. So, basically, her involvement is always to add the necessary finishing touches to make my self-ties inescapable, and then provide the occasional torment that she knows I enjoy. I am indeed very fortunate and adore and worship her for it (so don't worry, she gets plenty of enjoyment too of the things she is into).

I have a thing for gags that only muffle my moans rather than surpressing them completely. It really depends on my mood though. I love how neat and tidy duct tape can look.

I wasn’t suggesting that you share any pictures, but rather that I think they’re fun to keep around! I like to reminisce from time to time (okay—actually fairly often), and doing some photo/video shoots once in a while (every few months or so?) has been exciting. We’ve got pictures from almost 20 years ago (on our honeymoon, in our first apartment, etc.)—and it really brings back some memories! It’s also really interesting to see what bondage positions and gear work well (or don’t) from a photographic/visual perspective vs. efficacy perspective.

Relatedly, I’ve turned the tables on occasion and have taken some pictures of her tied up and gagged as well—mostly wearing leather gear/straps and a red ball gag. The expressions on her face are priceless—no words are necessary, her over-the-top eye rolling clearly convey, I’m having fun, but you’re the weirdest person I’ve ever met!

I like a pair of thick tights tied end over end in the front then again in the back with a stocking stuffing.

I also roll up a stocking and place it in the middle of a scarf and tie a knot around it. It's like a ball gag but soft and the entire knot goes in the mouth. I love torturing my wife when she is gagged with it.

I love the way the lips look around a bandana gag with a knot tied in the middle.

Duct tape/microfoam tape wrap around gags. Hands down. Mouth stuffing minimal, mostly because I have a slight paranoia of choking.

For me it's more about how the gag looks and feels than its effectiveness. It is the best when there is a nice smooth band over the mouth, especially one that is tight and causes the cheeks to bulge a little over the edges. Not to mention, I don't mind hearing some gag talk either. I certainly make a lot of it when I am gagged.
