When I tied Richard up

OK Zack V., and let's hope this helps in order to make this page amusing again after the latest flame fights.

This is a true story. I was about 10yo and vacationing with my family. The neighbours of our family's vacation house had three children, about 13, 9 and 7 years old. The middle one was Richard. We played tie-up games for a couple Summers, and I suppose that was the very first time I actually learnt something about tying ropes and knots. I remember I tied Richard and his little sister up a lot of times, but they usually asked to be tied back-to-back and always rejected the idea of having their hands bound behind them.

But one day I was alone with Richard and I had found a thin and very long nylon rope. His brother and sister weren't available and he didn't feel like being tied to a tree, so I just stated, "This time I'll tie you up my way". And presto, I bound his wrists behind his back rather firmly with one end of that rope. Much rope was unused, so I bound his ankles with the other end of it. Today I'd have probably hogtied him, but I wasn't so smart yet. :(

So Richard was bound hand & foot, the way I had wanted to secure him for so much time. He was delightfully squirming around, he probably was enjoying it as much as I enjoyed the show he was offering. I even wondered aloud, "Just why don't you want to be tied up this way if you like it so much?". His reply was just an annoyed grunt (he wasn't gagged), and I think it was a way of telling me "That's not your business".

When I think about those events again, I can tell Richard was evidently excited by the situation. Obviously the innocence of my youth had prevented me against understanding the meaning of that back then. Richard and his family are probably still loving tie-up games somewhere in Europe.

You might now ask, how did it all end up? In the most unglorious way- Richard's Mum called him for supper. I somehow panicked and couldn't undo his wrist knots, but I was able to free his feet. So I sent him back to his Mum like that. I remember he was whining "That stupid Andy, he tied me up!". His family actually never complained or such, or at least if they did I never knew about that. But for the sake of peace I didn't go visit them in the following week.
