Chapter 233
Carol didn't ask many questions when she opened the door to her daughter and her barefoot friend—after all, she was familiar with the girls' games. But when she saw Susan's desperate face, she wanted to hear the whole story—after stuffing a "comfort food" chocolate bar between Susan's teeth.
Claire told Susan, who was clearly on edge, the whole story of Susan's lost shoes—only mentioning her own role in it in passing, but going into great detail about how she was tickled by the naughty Bondage Boy.
When they had finished their account, both girls looked expectantly at Claire's mother. Her answer was unexpected—and caused her daughter shedding blanket horror, while Susan grinned broadly.
"Well—as I understand it, you're not entirely innocent, daughter! So it's only fair that you let your best friend have your shoes!"
Does Claire agree to give Susan her own shoes?
A) Claire agrees immediately, as she believes she has a spare pair of sneakers.
B) Claire agrees immediately, as she is certain her mother will buy her new sneakers right away.
C) Claire refuses and is grounded after Carol and Susan forcibly take her shoes.
D) Claire refuses and has to go to school barefoot for a week after Carol and Susan forcibly take her shoes.
