Now or never! Claire jumped up, grabbed her sneakers, and ran for the door. But she didn't get far. Carol and Susan caught up with her, grabbed her, and threw her to the ground. Her mother twisted her arms behind her back while Susan straddled her thighs.

"Stop fighting! You're only making it worse!" Susan shouted, first pulling off her best friend's socks and then tying her bare feet together, while Carol took care of her daughter's wrists.
