CHAPTER 1 - CHAD'S BALLSY PROPOSAL

"Dude, I'd love to hang out with you and the guys, but I can't. I'm stuck at home babysitting my little stepbro for the weekend."

"What the fuck, bro! Isn't your stepbrother in his last year of high school or something? He doesn't need to be fuckin' babysat! Just stop making fuckin' lame-ass excuses and come meet us at the dorm." the captain of my American football college team chortled. Chad was a fun guy, but he was basically as thick-skulled and as stubborn as they came.

"I'm not making excuses! Sammy got his little punk ass into trouble at school last week and our parents want him grounded for the rest of the month. I promised my dad I'd keep an eye on him while he and my stepmum are out of town for the weekend. I can't come over. I'm sorry, man." I went on to explain, much to my buddy's slight annoyance and overt incomprehension.

"Dude, that just sucks!" came my football captain's irritated retort, to which I could do nothing but agree. My little stepbrother was grounded, but I was inadvertently paying the price for his folly by agreeing to stay at home and babysit his grown ass.

"Yo, why don't you just bring him over then?" my captain excitedly suggested.

"At your dorm?" I asked, somewhat disbelievingly. "What's he gonna do at your dorm all day while we game and drink booze?"

"Who the fuck, cares, bro?! He's grounded! We'll just stick him in a fuckin' closet somewhere and forget about him. I can't believe you're gonna let that little punk fuckin ruin your weekend." Chad unhappily went on.


I laughed and shook my head at the amusing imagery conjured up by my captain's words. As tempting as Chad's offer was, I knew there was no way in hell I'd get my stepbrother to follow along and agree to those terms. Even if I kept my rowdy captain's clever idea a secret, Sam simply wouldn't be interested in tagging along.

"Haha! Yeah, I wish it were that simple. I can ask him but I know he won't want to come along."

"Dude. Are you fuckin' serious right now?! You're legit gonna let that little dweeb dictate your weekend for you? Seriously. Who the fuck cares whether he wants to come along or not? You just say the word and we'll be at your place and ready to pick you and your punk ass little stepbrother up in no time."

As amusing as the idea was, I predictably chuckled and declined my hunky captain's ballsy, over-the-top offer.

"Chad, we can't just fuckin' kidnap the kid."

"And why the fuck not?'

"What if he screams? What if the neighbours see us? What if someone calls the cops?" I went on, enumerating a bunch of things that could potentially go wrong.

"Bro, stop being such a fuckin' pussy! No one's gonna fuckin' see us! We've got rope, we've got zip-ties and we've got duct tape. We'll just fuckin' tie him up and stuff him in one of our football bags."

"Fuck, that'd be funny as hell. But nah, we can't seriously do that." I chuckled, before finally convincing my buddy not to put his plan into motion and alerting him to the fact that I'd try to get my younger stepbro to willingly come along. Chad agreed not to do anything, but he nevertheless cautioned me by telling me that he wanted me at the team's communal dorm apartment, one way or another. I knew my team captain well enough to know he wouldn't take no for an answer.



As it turns out, my initial predictions about Sammy not wanting to tag along or hang out with my buddies and I proved entirely spot on. It sorta made sense considering he was gay and nerdy, not to mention, several years younger than we were.

"No! Quit badgering me. I don't wanna go to no smelly dorm and I don't wanna hang out with you and your stupid jock friends." came his increasingly irritated reply.

"Come on, Sam. It'll be fun, you'll see. Your secret crush Hunter will be there." I teasingly winked, intentionally mentioning my football team's irrefutably handsome, hunky star quarterback as an attempt to further woo my nerdy stepbrother.

Sammy shifted uncomfortably in his computer chair, huffed and rolled his eyes up in feigned disinterest. Much to his own great annoyance though, the blushing of his cheeks wasn't as easy to conceal. The young man's secret attraction to guys would've remained a tight-kept secret had it not been for the fact that I'd unnanouncedly barged into his room not but two months ago, only to find him pleasuring himself to my buddy Hunter's Instagram pics.





I wasn't into guys at all, but I could definitely understand his attraction. Hunter was tall, standing just a centimetre short of two meters. He was handsome and most of all, he was seriously buff, even as per our hunky football team's impressive standards. He was easily one of the more attractive guys on campus, so it made sense that his mere presence would have my faggy-ass little stepbrother all weird and bothered.

Though I promised to more or less keep the lid on Sam's secret in exchange for a few minor favours here and there, I regularly allowed myself to have a bit of fun at his expense and occasionally teased him about his attraction to my college football team's uber-jockish star quarterback. Either way, Sam was flushed and mildly unnerved at my bringing up his secret crush. He once again angrily shot down the invitation to join me at Chad and Hunter's dorm apartment, and then he put his headphones back on so as not to be further tempted by my mildly appealing offer.

And so, I just lazed about the place, watched some TV and sorta mulled things over for the better part of half an hour.

I knew I was doing my dad a favour by babysitting the dweeb. But in doing so, I was basically the one paying the price for my younger stepbrother's folly. Chad was right. This wasn't fair.

'Screw this.' I finally thought to myself, before assertively grabbing my phone and texting my team captain.

The text message I sent him was short and to the point. It read: 'Alright, bro. Let's do this.' That was the only signal Chad needed to get his plan into motion. Sammy would be tagging along...whether he wanted to or not.

Many of them read much faster than we do, and their absorption rate is lesser, leading to a lessened comprehension and a lessened understanding of the material that was just read. Yes, it's an over-generalisation, but countless studies have shown this to be true. GenAlpha is unsurprisingly said to be even worse as far as attention span and reading go. That's sorta why I've been encouraging slower reading and adherence to line spacing and punctuation in more recent years.

This may sound stupid, but with more and more GenZ readers flocking to the forum, I've decided to tweak some of my more recent tales. Basically; shorter chapters and added focus on fewer characters. While important to the storyline, I've decided to keep Mark as a sort of passive narrator. He's there, but he's not the main focus. His four buddies is where most of the focus should be at.

Depending on where this tale goes (I've already extended it well beyond its original scope due to popular demand) and whether or not we get sequel(s) like we did for Easy Prey, Mark may get more spotlight as well as a more proper introduction. For now, I merely want him to serve as the eyes and ears of the readers. Hope this makes sense. Either way, the next chapter is coming out in just a few hours!

CHAPTER 15 - MEETING ANDREW

Seeing as how the hour was getting late, the first thing we did was text our teammate Kyle, not only to ask him if Andrew was still up and about but also to ask him if I could drop by for a quick visit. Suffice it to say, we received an affirmative response.

Kyle invited me over, predictably enough without so much as offering even a glimmer of curiosity pertaining to what business I could possibly have with his new roommate Andrew. Simply put, he probably didn't care.


Sammy was still in the washroom by the time I stepped out of the apartment and headed across the hall, towards the neighbouring unit that housed Kyle and his roomies. The poor lad was most likely still drying himself off with captain Chad's towel; oblivious to our plotting and no doubt enjoying every second away from Brody's hawkish gaze and out from under the beefy tyrant's tight leash.

In any case, the door to Kyle's apartment had preemptively been left open a crack, no doubt in anticipation of my arrival. I still deemed fit to signal my presence by letting a few knocks resonate before pushing the door open and poking my head through.

"Hey, bro. Come on in." Kyle absentmindedly greeted, standing shirtless behind the kitchen counter and appearing deep in the throes of preparing a late-night supper and a rosy-coloured protein shake.

"Thanks! Hey, smells good in here. Whatcha making?" I asked, inducing a quick bout of small talk, more for the sake of being polite than out of genuine curiosity.

"Nothing much. Just bacon and eggs. The usual." came his succinct, matter-of-factly reply.

"Cool. Man, it's nice and quiet here too. Way quieter than Chad's place." I noticed, looking around to see an illuminated TV but a seemingly deserted living room. Other than the sound of fatty bacon sizzling on the frying pan, only the faintest of background TV noises animated the otherwise silent apartment.

"Yeah, Joshua's out of town for the weekend, and the other twerp I haven't seen in a few days. Who the fuck knows where he is. By the way, Andrew's in his room if you wanna see him. Second door to the left. I told him you were dropping by." Kyle went on, motioning his head towards one of the bedroom doorways before dismissively returning his focus back to the heated stovetop.

"Sweet. Thanks, man."



Knocking on the door to Andrew's bedroom resulted in a predictable invitation to enter; something I promptly did before beaming him a friendly smile and offering him a cordial greeting. Or at least, that was the plan.

I didn't know the guy very well, so it sorta pains me to say this, but the first thing that struck me upon entering the darkly lit bedroom wasn't the generous clutter or the fact that its unmistakably handsome occupant was busily gaming. It was the smell.

A foul odour reminiscent of my own feverishly acrid stinkbombs - but somehow worse - filled the gloomy abode; tickling my unsuspecting nostrils and hitting me like a figurative bag of bricks. No, I'm not kidding. It really stank.


"Hey, man. How's it...owh, fuck. Haha! Bro. You might wanna crack your window up a bit." I laughingly breathed out, finding myself unable to finish my warm greeting without stopping dead in my tracks and temporarily turning my face away.

A noticeable tinge of embarrassment and unease immediately lined the dark-haired stud's chiselled features as the pausing of his game gave way to a sort of awkward apology.

Even though my blunt quip felt justified and wasn't the least bit premeditated, I instantly felt a pang of regret and found myself wishing I'd kept my mouth shut and hadn't said anything. Even more so upon realising that, much to our mutual embarrassment, the bedroom window was already open. And not just a bit. It was literally open as wide as it could go!


This guy's foot odour was bad. Like, really, really bad. Worse than my own and quite possibly on par with Chad's and Hunter's.

A quick scan of the gloomy surroundings allowed me to immediately spot not one but three likely culprits. Propped up on his own computer desk lay a supremely hairy pair of legs and ankles. Ankles from which sprouted fleshy bare soles the likes of which I'd only seen on Big Mike. In other words, his feet were huge! Not as broad or as beefy as say, Chad's or Hunter's, but noticeably lengthier, or from where I was positioned, taller!

On the floor, next to the jumbo-soled bedroom occupant's gaming chair lay two other culprits. A pair of extremely, and I mean extremely dingy socks that looked like they'd seen better days, and two downright colossal running trainers; the unsightly maws of which betrayed years of heavy overuse. Definitely on par with Chad and Hunter, I remember silently thinking to myself.



"So, what brings you here?" Andrew asked, swinging his legs off the computer desk and quickly adopting a more upright position.

The two of us spoke for a bit; me going on and on about the events leading to my stepbrother's stashing and Andrew listening intently and appearing not the least bit vexed by the details surrounding Sam's heavy-handed capture.

Our mutual friendship with Big Mike and our shared interest in video games allowed the two of us to quickly overlook the fact that we barely knew each other. We chatted about video games, chatted about his roomies, about basketball and about how he was adapting to dorm life. I was living at home and had always been a bit skittish about sharing a cramped apartment just for the sake of being closer to uni, so Andrew's experience as a new dorm occupant was of particular interest to me.

In any case, Kyle was right about his newest roommate being chill. Though he wasn't into bodybuilding or football much, the two of us ended up hitting it off and finding numerous commonalities while discussing our shared interests. Given a bit of time, I could definitely see myself hanging around with this guy.


"So yeah...we were just, you know, brainstorming ideas about how to keep my stepbrother from making a run for it during the night when your name suddenly came up." I went on to explain, summarising the details of the discussion leading up to Hunter's clever suggestion.

"Well, I mean...I'm pretty good with ropes and I've had to tie my younger brother up a few times as well. But...I don't get it. Wasn't Hunter in the Boy Scouts during his early high school years? I'm sure he could keep your stepbrother in a secure bind if he put his head to it." Andrew reasoned, obviously not understanding the role we were hoping he'd play in all this.

"Oh, abso-fuckin'-lutely he could. He knows his knots really well and he's fuckin' good with rope. It's just that...well, I think he's hoping not to have to tie the little guy up again." I explained, before finally letting slip a less subtle clue as to why I'd been sent knocking on his door. "The guys all seemed to think that you could help out. Something about a...bed with straps of some sort..."

"Oh." came the hairy-legged gamer's almost immediate response. "My gurney."

"Yeah, I think that's what they were talking about. You studying medical?"

"Yeah. Paramedics. My dad always thought I had the character for it. Something about being focused and staying calm under pressure...you know."

"Hmm, yeah. I could totally see that. That's really awesome, bro. Honestly. And hey, if I need to call an ambulance I know who to call now. Haha!" I teased, before slowly prodding the discussion back towards more pressing matters.

"So, umh...what d'you think? Think you can help us out or...not really? By the way, it's totally fine if you're not up for it. I mean, it's late. I know. And I'm not here to pressure you. The guys basically just thought it might be worth asking you. Seriously. No pressure." I assured him, legitimately wanting to put the guy at ease.


Andrew glanced towards his bedroom closet and moved his lips from side to side in an undecided fashion.
"Honestly? I don't mind. It's just that...it might sorta freak your brother out a bit." came his honest-sounding reply.

"Stepbrother. We're not blood-related." I casually corrected, before angling my head to the side and bidding him to elaborate on the misgivings he'd just voiced.

"Well I mean, it's not exactly like the basket stretcher your coach has." he went on, his words quickly reminding me of the fact that Chad and the rest of the team had carried out a number of post-practice lockerroom hazings using our coach's unattended and highly convenient security strap-ridden basket stretcher. If you don't know much about sports and are wondering what a basket stretcher looks like, you should definitely pause your reading and look it up online. Seriously. Go check it out!



In any case, Andrew's hesitation and the somewhat ominous answer he gave didn't dissuade me in the slightest. Quite the opposite, in fact. It tickled my curiosity.

"How's it different from the basket stretcher? D'you mean it's more comfortable?" I asked, pressing the aspiring paramedic for a more detailed explanation.

"No. Well, yes! But I mean, that's not what I'm talking about. It's like...really heavy-duty. I sorta don't know how else to put it." he went on.


Andrew's hesitation made sense, and given his lacklustre explanation, I might've actually agreed with his initial misgivings had it not been for the fact that Sammy had already been through far worse and that the other bedding alternatives conjured up by Matt and Brody were undoubtedly even less savoury.

"Yeah, I get the picture. He's been through worse though. If you count his kidnapping, he legit spent almost eight hours cooped up inside Brody's smelly as fuck gear bag. And not to put too fine a point on it, but let's just say the other ideas currently being floated around in Chad's living room make a night on your gurney sound like a walk in the park." I pointed out, hoping to convince my handsome interlocutor.


Andrew tightened his lips a little and gave his closet another passing glance, wordlessly signalling he was still deep in reflection. The sharp vinegary odour that wafted up my nostrils stung my eyes a bit, subconsciously causing me to cast a weary gaze at those positively gargantuan soles and fat, lint-infested toes of his.

A few more seconds of pensive silence ticked by before the two-meter-tall gamer-bro finally came to a decision.

"Alright, I'll help out, but I'll need a good ten minutes to get it set up. And I'll need your help carrying it over to Chad's apartment." he finally spoke, immediately causing me to nod in unabashed agreement.

"Sweet! I'll be back in a bit. I'll just go tell the guys you've agreed to help out. Thanks again, man. I owe you one." I excitedly told him, gesturing my gratitude by pounding a closed fist atop the left side of my chest before finally departing from his bedroom in order to alert my colleagues to the news.

Going over the comments you dropped as you were reading, it's quite thrilling to see that prior to his involvement in Chapter 15 your appreciation of Andrew was modest a best, and that he's grown a lot in your esteem as a result of his being featured in this narrative.

As for Hunter's relative reservedness, you're right! But my counter-argument may shed some additional light on the matter. Basically, I think it's important to consider who he's being compared to. Chad, Matt and Brody are, by any measurable standard, quite vocal and rambunctious. Even someone a little less loud & rowdy (more average guys like Corey, Chris, Shawn, etc) would appear markedly more reserved when compared to those three. Basically, what I'm saying is that Hunter gives the illusion of being reserved, simply due to his three colleagues being on the extreme end of the spectrum.

It's sort of like Nick with Brad vs Nick with Zack. Reader perceptions of Nick change a lot depending on who he's being contrasted to. With Brad, Nick comes off as the kinder & more playful one. With Zack, the same Nick can come off as being stern. You get what I mean. But yes, while I wouldn't qualify Hunter as being reserved, you're right to point out that he's quieter than his colleagues.
