It goes to show that it's not always the older kids who overpower the young ones (albeit with a little help from their friends brothers).
For those who care, I've added a visual representation of the characters we've met so far to the opening post of this thread. And with that, I wish you all a happy new year! May your days be merry and tied bright.

That last pun was far more clever than it had any right to be.

Chapter 8
The moment Kevin locked the door behind him and Keanu saw the key lying on the little table, he began trying like a madman to free himself from his constrained position. He yanked left and right, trying to tear his hands loose from the straps that held them to the top of the chairâs backrest. At the same time, he kicked his feet forward as hard as he could. It had little effect; in fact, because of the way the judo straps bound his hands and feet, it seemed as if Keanu was only being tied tighter and tighter to the chair, which wobbled dangerously back and forth.
Keanu was so busy with himself that he didnât hear Raphael until he paused after his frantic efforts to catch his breath. By then, sweat had broken out all over him.
âDude, dude! Stop!â
Gasping for air, Keanu looked at his friend with an annoyed expression.
âWhat? Why stop? We have to get out of here! Or did you want to just sit around and wait to see what kind of fucking games Kevin is going to play with us?â
Keanu could barely control his anger. In addition to his hands and feet, he was now using his entire body to apply force. The chair jerked back and forth in fits, sometimes so much that it balanced on two legs at the very edge. Fortunately for Keanu, the solid wooden chair was just heavy enough not to tip over the edge and crash to the floor, along with him.
âKeanu! This is pointlessâyou can tell, canât you? A week ago it was pointless, and now it is too.â In the meantime, Raphael had already scanned over his entire body from top to bottom, trying to figure out whether there was any weakness in the way he was tied up. The collar around his neck was attached to the support beams with an iron chain, but the collar itself could be undone at the buckle. His feet were wrapped with a few ropes and secured through a hole in the beams at the back, and with some effort you could undo their knot with your hands. The problem, however, was those handsâor rather, the lack of them. Raphaelâs hands were bound crosswise to each other with a judo strap, making it look as if he were imitating a butterfly when his hands flapped up and down. With free hands, an escape might have been possible, but just like a week earlier, Kevin seemed to be an expert when it came to tying up teenage hands and bodies. And yet⌠you could never escape a chain secured with a padlock. But rope or straps, in Raphaelâs mind, always offered possibilities, no matter how hopeless it now seemed. Especially ifâŚ
With a sudden surge of excitement, Raphael looked at Keanu and his chair, which continued to balance on the edge of the abyss. Compared to a few minutes earlier, maybe nothing had changed about Keanuâs position on the chair, but there was clearly a change in the chairâs location in the room. Through all that wobbling, Keanu had moved his chair at least two feet closer to Raphael and was now about ten feet away from him. Raphaelâs thoughts were racing.
âKeanu, stop! I have an idea. Keanu! KEANU!â
Raphael didnât want to wake sleeping dogs (or Kevins, in this case) with his attempts to get Keanuâs attention, but he did have to raise his voice somewhat to make Keanu stop fighting his predicament. The third time he whispered-shouted Keanuâs name, he got the attention he was looking for.
âWHAT?â Keanu shouted back, still irritated and frustrated.
âWe have to work together,â Raphael said. âWe wonât make it on our ownâthat much is clear. You have to help me. Do you see how, the whole time you were struggling, youâve actually come closer to me?â
Keanu hadnât noticed it, but now he could see it too.
âYou have to try to wobble your way over to me. Chair and all, until you can reach my hands. Itâs the only way.â
With a look that shifted from hopeless to hopeful, Keanu saw that Raphael was right. He had already realized that there was no point in trying on his own, but with seemingly no other way out, he had kept trying to free himself. Now that another, much more promising option had presented itself, Keanu changed his tactics. By making the chair wobble and giving a jerk with his whole body at just the right moment, he could inch closer and closer to Raphael. It was a slow process, but little by little he progressed. Ten feet became nine, eight, seven. Eventually he was sitting half behind Raphael on his chair, both teenagersâ bodies facing the same direction.
âNice, Keanu! Now turn.â
By now an expert at moving around with a chair without using his feet, Keanu turned the chair in such a way that, with his hands bound to the top of the chair, he could reach the knot in the strap that bound Raphaelâs hands to the support beams. It was hard to do much with his own tied hands, but with his fingers he could move just enough to search for the knot in the judo straps holding Raphael tied down. It wasnât easy though. Minutes passed as Keanu searched in vain for the knot that could herald both of their freedom. And then, finally, he found what he was looking for. He picked and picked at the knot, which slowly but surely began to give, like a shoelace tied a little too tight that youâre trying to undo with cold hands.
The moment Raphael felt more space opening up between his hands and the judo strap, he began making desperate efforts of his own to help Keanu. He tried, with all the strength he had left, to pull his hands apart in opposite directions, feeling the space around them and the straps grow larger and larger. Just a little moreâŚ
At that moment, Raphael and Keanu heard shuffling in the hallway adjoining the room in the old barn where they were. They halted their efforts immediately. Then they heard a key turn in the lock of the iron door, the handle moved downward, and, accompanied by a creaking sound, the door was slowly pushed open.

Chapter 9
Kevin closed the iron door shut behind him and locked it with the key, leaving Keanu and Raphael struggling in their restraints and ropes. He untied the black belt that held the jacket of his judo suit together and stared at it. And suddenly, without having it felt building up, his eyes began to grow watery, and within a few seconds, tears silently streamed down his cheeks. Kevin quickly walked to the other side of the hall, opened a wooden door leading to another part of the old barn, and collapsed defeated onto the floor. Tears were joined by sobs. The façade he had so carefully built upâand which he had almost started to believe himself judging by his behavior toward Keanu and Raphael just moments agoâcrumbled like a house of cards. Where minutes earlier he had still played the big, strong judoka, chest puffed out with pride, now there was only a small, pitiful heap of an insecure thirteen-year-old boy.
At that moment, it was as if his entire past flashed through his mind all at once. He thought of moments during judo practice when his father stood at the edge of the mat, observing every move Kevin made and ready to explode in a rage if he saw something he didnât like. He thought of competitions where he always gave his absolute best and won a lot, but dreaded the moments when he unexpectedly lost a match and his father wanted nothing to do with him for days. And he thought of all the times he was compared to his brother. That brother who, a few years ago, had gotten it into his head to lock up a group of boys much younger than himself for an entire weekendâright here in this old shed. An incident Kevin thought no one could possibly be proud of, not counting on his brotherâs circle of friends who thought it was all fantastic and still burst into laughter every time they came over and talked about it with him. His father didnât seem to care much about the whole situation. The only thing he had doneâfor appearanceâs sakeâwas give his brother a week of house arrest after the kidnapping incident, and that was it.
All those memories from his past now passing through his mind filled Kevin with a quiet rage. Blinded by anger, he yanked off his judo jacket and hurled it hard into the corner of the room. Why am I doing this, Kevin thought. Deep down, he knew very well that the way he had acted last week and this evening was not who he really was. No, he was playing a roleâto survive in the environment he had been given. This was someone he had become because others expected it of him. And now it had come to the point where he was complicit in kidnapping a couple of older students from his school, aided by his maniacal brother. He should have drawn a line last week, when his brother came up with that idiotic plan to take up his old âhobbyâ of kidnapping young teenage boys again. But Kevin didnât dare, afraid of the consequences for himself if he refused. And it couldnât be that bad, could it, he had thought beforehand? It was just a game, after all, wasnât it?
Kevin recalled the looks he had just seen in the eyes of Keanu and Raphael and sat up straight. No. It wasnât a gameâat least not for them. This had to stop, here and now. At some point he had to decide that enough was enough, that the role in the bad movie he had been playing all these years was over. Let the credits rollâthis film is finished.
In the other room, where he had left Keanu and Raphael alone about fifteen minutes ago, there was some shuffling. Kevin heard it, but he was gripped by his current conviction. He pulled his phone from his pocket, opened WhatsApp, and typed in his brotherâs name. On the screen appeared a profile picture of a young man, twenty years old, with wild blond hair, staring defiantly into the camera. Kevin felt disgusted by it, but he clicked on the name to open the chat history. With trembling fingers, Kevin typed a message to his brother:
âTo hell with this man. Iâm done. Iâm letting them go and I quit.â
Kevin hit send. Within seconds, two grey check marks appeared next to his message, and soon after, they turned blue. He saw that his brother was typing.
âNo.â
No? Yes! And this time for real. Kevin was done and was about to type a reply when a notification announced that his brother was trying to call him.
Kevin swallowed. His brother never called him. Why now? Kevin knew, of course, but ignored the notification and continued typing his own message. But before he could send it, his brother had already replied with a new message.
âPICK UP THE DAMN PHONE!!!â Right after that, his brother called again.
Kevin let it ring three times before he answered.
âWHAT THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOUâRE DOING?â he heard his brother scream on the other end of the line. Startled, Kevin moved the phone farther from his ear and turned down the volume before bringing it back.
âI donât want to do it anymore. I want to stop.â Kevin had meant to say it confidently, but he heard himself speak with a scared, breaking voice.
âWhat are you talking about? Youâre continuing, little brother! As if you have a choice. Do you know whatâll happen to you if you donât do what I say? Iâll come to that freaking barn myself and hang you upside down between those two fags by your ankles!â
Kevin shrank back. âBut, butâŚ,â he started, but the moment he said it, he already knew the battle was lost.
âNO BUTS!â came the reply, if possible even louder and more threatening. âYouâre continuing. Youâre going back to those two losers right now and showing them whoâs boss. If theyâre not completely broken by the end of this weekend, someone else will be.â A deafening silence followed on the other end of the line. His brother had hung up.
Dazed from the conversationâif you could even call it thatâKevin put his phone back in his pocket. He picked up the judo jacket he had thrown into the corner and put it back on, cinching it with the black judo belt. That had been another great idea from his brother, wearing that suit. Supposedly to show his strength, because his trained chest looked good in it. Not much left of that now, huh, Kevin thought.
He walked through the wooden door back into the hall and still heard some shuffling coming from the other room, though it seemed quieter than before. Kevin took the key, inserted it into the lock of the iron door, and slowly opened it.

Chapter 10
When Kevin stepped into the room where he had left Keanu and Raphael, he immediately saw that something about their situation had changed. Not so much in the way he had tied them up, but in their position in the space. Where Keanu had previously been sitting on his chair at a distance of about ten feet, he was now right behind the crossed support beams to which Raphael was bound.
Back in character, Kevin smirked at the scene before him. âWell, Keanu, been busy, huh, boy? I didnât know you were going on a trip. Can I come along?â
Amused by the spectacle that had unfolded, Kevin walked toward the two teenage boys. Although Keanuâs position so close behind Raphael was somewhat suspicious, Kevin could still see the judo belts just behind the crossed beams where Raphaelâs hands were tied behind them.
The moment Kevin walked past Raphael to push Keanu, along with his chair, back to his original position and start the games he had planned with the two, it turned out his assessment had fallen short on one particular point.
â
Raphael had just managed to free both his hands from the belts tying him behind the support beams when Kevin entered the room. Quickly, he rolled his wrists so the now-loose belts wrapped around them, to avoid giving the impression that he and Keanu had succeeded in taking a first step toward freedom. Given that Raphael was still tied by his ankles and via the collar around his neck to the support beams, it was clear they had only taken a small step (not to mention the situation Keanu was in). But something was better than nothing, and even this small success increased their chances.
Although Kevin seemed unchanged from the moment he had left the room and cheerfully continued uttering threatening words, Raphael noticed something remarkable on his face. Was it just his imagination, or had Kevin been crying? His face was still a bit redder than youâd normally expect, and the look in his eyes seemed less confident than before. Raphael, however, had little time to dwell on it. He had a plan, but for that, it was necessary for Kevin to come closer.
Miraculously, there was nothing Raphael needed to do to provoke just that, because not much later, he saw Kevin walking toward Keanu, on a path that would lead right past him.
Raphael waited patiently for the moment and let the ropes he had loosely wrapped around his wrists begin to unwind a little. A few more steps and Kevin would pass right in front of him. With every step Kevin took, Raphael silently unwound another loop from his wrists, until his hands were completely free the moment Kevin was only a few inches away from him.
â
In a flash, it happened. Exactly as Kevin passed directly in front of Raphael, he felt an arm pulled tightly around his neck. From the impact, Kevin slipped on the roomâs floor but was kept upright by the strong grip. He was standing with his back to Raphael and couldnât see it well, but the pressure on his neck was so great that Raphael had to use his other arm like a clamp. Kevin knew this chokehold technique from his judo training; he had made many opponents tap out on the mat with it to surrender. It was a hold you could escape from, but that was easier said than done against an opponent like Raphael, who was four years older than him. There was always a natural strength difference involved with an age difference like that. Still, Kevin tried the first step toward his own freedom by pressing his chin down against his chest as much as possible. That always gave just that little extra space.
âL-l-let me g-go.â Those were the only three words Kevin could get out between his attempts to gasp for air. Raphael did not let go. Kevinâs plea only motivated him more. After all, without Kevin, he and Keanu had already managed to overcome the biggest obstacle in untying his bound hands.
Realizing that Raphael had no intention of letting him go, Kevin continued his escape attempts. He grabbed Raphaelâs arm with both hands and tried to pull it down, while pressing his own arms tightly against his sides. That didnât have the desired effect yet, but Kevinâs next action did. With wheezing breaths, he pushed off with his upper body against Raphaelâs chest and the support beams, causing Raphael to first get pinned between those beams and Kevin, and then feel a sharp pain in his neck from the collar being pulled tight by the forward movement. In a natural reaction, Raphael quickly let go of Kevin and grabbed his own throat, now gasping for air himself. Due to the sudden absence of the counterweight Raphael had provided, Kevin fell forward onto the ground.
â
In all the commotion, no one noticed that Keanu had stubbornly continued working to free his own hands from the top of the chair. Where earlier he had only been focused on freeing Raphael and needed all his attention for that, it now turned out that Raphael had also been fiddling with Keanuâs bound hands at the same time. That was now evident from the extra space he had felt between the judo belts and his wrists. While watching the struggle between Raphael and Kevin, Keanu also managed to slowly but surely free his hands. The moment Kevin was desperately trying to wriggle free from Raphaelâs embrace, Keanu felt the last loop of the judo belt come loose, and it fell to the ground beside the chair. His hands were free. In a rush, he bent forward and started working on the belts holding both his feet to the sides of the chair. Without hands, it had been impossible to free his feet from that position, but with them, it worked much better. By the time Kevin broke free from Raphaelâs grip and fell forward, his right foot was completely loose.
â
Kevin managed to catch himself with his hands just in time to avoid landing face-first on the wooden floor of the old barn. In what looked like a push-up position, balancing on hands and feet, Kevin looked over his shoulder at Raphael, who was now busy trying to find the buckle of the collar around his neck. Quickly, Kevin pushed himself up and charged toward Raphael, now carefully staying out of reach of his grasping hands. If he could get behind the support beams, he would have the chance to use Raphaelâs own chokehold trick against him. A taste of his own medicine.
â
The moment Keanu saw Kevin get up and charge toward Raphael again, he seized his chance. Exactly as Kevin ran between Raphael and himself, he kicked out hard with his freed right foot, as if taking a penalty. His foot didnât hit a ball, however, but landed on the shins of the charging Kevin, who once again fell forward and right in front of Keanu on the ground. The impact of Keanuâs kick caused him to go down with Kevin and land right behind him on the floor, with Kevinâs back to him. As if it were a relay game, it was now Keanuâs turn to practice his chokehold. Before Kevin could get back up, Keanu grabbed the belt that previously hold his own hands to the chair and wrapped it tightly around Kevinâs neck. Because of the fight Kevin had already put up against Raphael, it was now twice as hard to muster the same strength against Keanu. With combined effort, he still tried with all his might to break free one more time, but with his judo experience, he knew that doing so twice in such a short time was impossible. Even an ultimate effort brought Kevin no success. Slowly, the world around him changed from a blurry haze to eventually nothing but blackness.

Chapter 11
While Kevin lay unconscious on the ground, Keanu and Raphael worked on the last few straps and ropes that still held them to the chair and the support beams, respectively. Because of the fall with his chair, it was more difficult for Keanu to free himself, so Raphael eventually had to help him to avoid wasting too much time. After all, they had a decision to make regarding their former assailant. Once Keanu had regained his freedom as well, he and Raphael looked at each other and began to grin.
âWas this what you had in mind for the start of this weekend?â Raphael asked. Keanuâs grin turned into a nervous burst of laughter that lasted a few seconds and was contagious enough for Raphael to join in. When they had both recovered from the release that their freedom had brought, they looked from each other to Kevin.
âHelp me lift him and put him on that little table by the door,â Keanu said. He had no idea what to do with Kevin right now, but he knew they needed to buy time to think about it without getting into another fight with the young judoka. Raphael grabbed Kevin by his arms while Keanu lifted his legs. Together they carried Kevin to the small side table right next to the door and laid him diagonally across it on his back. Because it was a small table, Kevinâs arms and legs immediately hung in a position just above the floor along the two diagonally opposite table legs. That position gave Keanu an idea. A kind of taste of his own medicine, you could say, which he put into practice with his next instructions to Raphael.
âQuick, grab some ropes and tie his ankles to the table leg; Iâll do the same with his wrists.â While Raphael picked up the ropes that had previously been used on himself from the floor, Keanu was busy pulling off the jacket of Kevinâs judo suit. His eyes were automatically drawn to the muscular upper body of the thirteen-year-old. Keanu himself knew from his many miles of running what hard training was like, but this was on another level. No wonder it had taken Raphael and him so much effort to get Kevin under control. Fortunately, there had been two of them, and some luck had been involved as well.
Keanu was snapped out of his daydream by Raphael handing him a few ropes, who then started to tie Kevinâs ankles himself. Keanu did the same with the wrists: he crossed Kevinâs wrists so that his right wrist lay on top of his left and then wrapped a loop of rope around both Kevinâs wrists and the table leg. He repeated this loop several times, creating multiple strands of rope, which Keanu then pulled as tight as possible without completely cutting off circulation. After that, Keanu passed the rope several times between Kevinâs wrists and the table leg, finally finishing the job with a few flat knots behind the table leg, out of Kevinâs reach. Whenever Keanu glanced at Raphaelâs rope work, he saw that Kevinâs ankles had met roughly the same fate. Within a few minutes, the judoka lay stretched across the table in a state that seemed impossible to escape. To complete the whole thing, Keanu picked up a longer rope from the floor and wound it just under the tabletop and over Kevinâs upper body, then did the same with another rope, so that with two crossed ropes Kevin no longer had any ability to move his chest up and down. Like a pair of treasure hunters, Keanu and Raphael took a few steps back to admire their prize properly.
âWhat now?â Raphael asked.
âLetâs wait until he wakes up and then interrogate him,â Keanu said. All sorts of ways to do that were already forming in his mind.
At that moment, a groan came from Kevinâs mouth, and his eyes slowly opened one by one. When he tried to stretch, as if waking from a wonderful sleep, he discovered it was impossible. Within seconds he was wide awake and understood what had happened while he was unconscious. Like a madman, he tried to free himself from the ropes tying him to the small table, but it turned out Keanu and Raphael had done their work well. There was no escape. Frustrated by his situation, Kevin turned his head to the left, where he saw Keanu and Raphael looking at him with satisfaction.
âUntie me! You donât understand! Get me out of here!â Panic was visible in Kevinâs eyes, and for the second time that evening tears ran down his cheeks. His thoughts went back to the words his brother had said earlier over the phone:
âYouâre going back to those two losers right now and showing them whoâs boss. If theyâre not completely broken by the end of this weekend, someone else will be.â
At this moment it was clear that the only broken person in this room was himself. If this was how his brother would find him, things would be bad, and he could brace himself for something far worse than whatever Keanu and Raphael might have planned for him.
Keanu looked at the crying Kevin. âThis is hilarious. First making life miserable for the two of us, then bursting into tears when the same thing happens to you and demanding we let you go.â
Kevinâs emotions shot in all directions, but mostly toward fear and helplessness. âYou donât understand. I didnât want this, I didnât want any of this to happen, but I had no choice.â Then everything came out. âIf you only knew what my brother is really like, maybe youâd understand. How do you think it feels to live with someone who always got preferential treatment? He was the one who always got new things, and I got the hand-me-downs, if I was lucky. He was the one who got away with everything and could do whatever he wanted, while I had to perform, each and every day. At school, in sports, everywhere! Nothing was ever good enough. And⌠andâŚâ Kevin was now completely overwhelmed by emotions and after those last words could only produce heavy sobbing and sniffling. He had given up struggling against the ropes by now, leaving him hanging helplessly over the little table like a sack of potatoes.
Keanu and Raphael looked at each other. Although they had earlier been lured into a trap by Kevin and had been spared nothing themselves, they were now beginning to feel some pity for the younger boy.
Whether it was true or Kevin was making one last psychological attempt to turn the situation to his advantage, at that moment they decided without words what they were going to do.

Interesting story so far!
Conflicted as whether to belive Kevin or not. Seems plausible but I wouldn't trust him easily after what he's done to them. Though if it's true, maybe the 3 of them could do something about Kevin's older brother
