I am now up to date and wish I were not. It is tragic but inspired. Now, I must seek solitude to mourn our loss of Mia.

Did you ever count how many chapters you wrote? How many words? With the way you are writing, that must be some serious numbers.
I have never really tracked the totals. So far this tale has 11 arcs, each between 60,000 and 100,000 words with 20 to 60 chapters of varying lengths.

If you include Deception, Devotion and Devastation in the total, probably around the million word mark.

I never thought, when I atarted that i would still be going afyer 4 years

This was one of the hardest arcs to write for a number of reasons. The growth of Mia, from introduction to end has been hard to pace realistically, but i am happy with that aide of it.

As I was writing it, I could see early on how it was doing to end following the internal kogic of the character. There are two more chapters in this arc before a change of pace for the next, which may help lift the mood.

I am very curious my Friend. I can only imagine how hard it was to write this Arc. For several Reasons. But you did really really well. All well paced. All Pieces of the Puzzle fell in place - and it never does look construed or forced at all.

At the risk of giving the game away, not all of the pieces have fallen into place as yet.

@Bandit666 @Caesar73 @GreyLord @slackywacky

After taking a panicked statement from the neighbours, Kate stalks through the crowd around the building and watches it’s ebb and flow, feeling the rhythm of the throng. She works her way to the edge of the street and keeps watching, “The Fresco family said that something moved through the apartment like a blur. Street too crowded to do that without causing a commotion, so the shooter is going no where fast.”

She drops a bead and keys her comms, “I need a one mile cordon on my current location, I need names and ID’s for everyone here.”

Control responds, “Negative, Athena. We are stretched too thin. It’s party central where you are. There are thousands of people in that area.”

Kate thinks for a moment, “Plan B. Saturate the area with drones, I want pictures of everyone and full video of the area. Then cross reference the images with identity records.”

When the confirmation comes through, Kate nods to herself and lights a cigarette, looking up and down the street, “Need a vantage point.”

She blows smoke out of the corner of her mouth and picks her way through the crowd to cross the street. She feels the press of the crowd, but knowing where every hand in a two metre radius is.

Kate climbs the steps of the library and watches the crowd, “Not much elevation, but perfect to spot something out of place.”

She takes a pull on her cigarette, dimly aware of the approach of a fighter jet, “Just like spotting an ambush. Scrutinise the environment and look for a leaf moving out of place, a sound that doesn’t belong or something just not right.”

Kate breathes smoke out of the corner of her mouth, surveying the revellers, “People alone act on impulse. People in a crowd, follow the herd subconsciously.” She takes another draw, watching the revellers in the street, “The party has a rhythm all its own. Everyone ebbs and flows like waves in sync with the whole. If the shooter is still here they will use the crowd as camouflage, but will act with their own agency, trying to evade detection. Eventually they will reveal themselves.”

Kate watches as the jet thunders in low and fast, unleashing a barrage of coloured explosives, to celebrate the realms freedom from the oppressive regime.

The crowd cower for a moment, shocked by the noise, before screaming in delight.

All except one, non descript partygoer, with their back to Kate roughly two blocks down the street. The figure is revealed for only a moment, but that is enough.

Kate drops her cigarette and rests her hand on her weapon, knowing this is her target. Before she can shout a warning, the Suspect flings smoke bombs and flashbangs panicking the crowd.

Unable to intervene quickly enough, Kate watches the Suspect somersault impossibly and begin running along the wall above the heads of the crowd.

Deciding to avoid the chaos of the street, Shaw takes to the air, following the Suspect. Stunned as they sprint at a right angle to the street along the wall, leaping over windows and fire escapes.

“That’s not possible. They are using wall as a running track.” She thinks before keying her comms, “Suspect South bound on Milanese, at speed. Caucasian, five eleven, hundred and seventy pounds. Bandana mask, shades and cap, jeans and a black t-shirt. Possible weapon concealed at base of spine.”

“Copy that. Support units inbound.” The male controller responds in a clipped tone.

“Be advised, Suspect to be considered armed and dangerous. Possible magic user. Running at over fifty miles per hour on the side on the buildings on the street.” Kate calls back, sharing the feed from her video.

She stays a half block distant to keep the Suspect under surveillance, while back up arrives, “Suspect appears to have neon green hair, probably wig. Identify all suppliers in realm that stock this kind of item and obtain sales records for the past two months. Run same check for Haven and Atlantis. Actually, do a safe side check on hair dye, same realms.”

Kate frowns feeling something amiss, or rather something she has missed. “No visual cues to indicate if suspect a male or female.” She thinks with a frown, “Why do I get the feeling that I am missing something?”

Up ahead Kate sees the comforting sight of a support unit in position on rooftops, straddling the road beyond the suspect, and more units keeping pace the other side of the river.

The soldiers stare for a moment at the suspect, sprinting towards them in defiance of gravity along the wall, as sure footed, as if they were on a running track.

The problem is that the Suspect sees them also and decides to change the game, leaping and swinging around a lamp post to land on the threshold of one of the cities intricate and ornate marble bridges, spanning the river.

The Suspect flings more smoke grenades and flashbangs to detonate in and above the crowd, before roughly shouldering through the fleeing crowd and hopping onto the bridges wall, facing down stream. The revellers, scream in panic and surge away from the centre of the bridge to escape from the maniac.

Kate lands behind the Suspect, her tactical net showing display showing support units either end of the bridge, weapons trained on the target. “Give it up, you are surrounded.”

The Suspect raises their hands, clearly showing the pistol in their right hand. Kate sees something out of place, but can’t put her finger on it, before the Suspect spins on the spot and drops into a crouch, weapon aimed at Kate.

The sudden movement spurs the King’s Guard into action, opening fire to protect their field commander.

Kate screams “NO!” seeing the shooters chest turn red from the score of rounds striking it. She darts forward, unable to stop the Suspects body from toppling backwards into the water.

“Damn it.” She curses, sprinting forward, “The Arrester and Sheath would have protected me.”

She charges towards the spot the Suspect occupied and swan dives into the water, “Find the body.” She orders, hitting the water.

Kate’s helmet locks in place upon hitting the water and seals, connecting to the Sheaths back up air supply.

Thanks to heavy rain upstream, the water is cloudy at best and a soup at worst. Moreover, infra red light is blocked by the water making thermal imaging a non starter.

On the other hand, as more Guards enter the water, their sonar systems, connect together and create a 3D map of the river bed and water.

Kate frowns in absolute focus, leading the Guards downstream with the current, unable to pinpoint a hit on any kind of body or living thing larger than a salmon.

Minutes become hours, in the gathering darkness, as day turns to night. Kate leads the search, refusing to give up the search for the murderer. At first she coordinates from the water, leading a fingertip search of the riverbed for four painstaking hours.

Returning to the makeshift command post, she sips a cup of hot black coffee, before lighting a cigarette. She feels the adrenaline, start to abate and takes a deep lungful of nicotine.

“This has got to have been one of the most full on and brutal days, in our family’s history. Kim being jumped, the fall of a nation, the rise of a hero, her death and the possible escape of the assassin.” Kate thinks.

She closes her eyes and leans back in her chair for a moment, blowing smoke rings at the ceiling, “Fucked up day.” She mutters under her breath.

The hot bitter coffee almost burns her throat as she gulps it down, using the sensation to refocus herself, as she keys her comms, “Heamus, talk to me. Is there any findings from the flat to report?”

Her senior forensic technician pings back a moment later, “We have taken the place apart and there are no prints, no hairs and no fibres. The acid in the bath corroded the barrel of the rifle so badly that there is no chance of a ballistics match. There is nothing out of place.” He says, dejected, “Except....”

Kate raises and eyebrow, “Doesn’t matter how odd. Tell me.”

Heamus chews his lip for a moment, before admitting, “We found the oven turned on to its highest setting and a pumice stone on one of the racks.”

Kate frowns to herself, unsure of what this means, “Thank you for the summary, I will check the full report when submitted.”

She takes a sip of coffee as the call ends, “Hmmmm. I wonder. Was that left as a red herring to lead us astray? Or is it important?”

Kate looks up at the board, which shows everything that is known about the Suspect. Descriptions, given by her to dispatch, the weapon type they used to kill Mia and during their escape, the shop in Atlantis that sold a wig as a cash purchase on the day their cameras were down.

Taking a marker pen, she notes the details from Heamus’ report and keeps staring at the board, thinking, “What am I missing?”

She leans back in her seat and begins watching footage of the chase and the crowd, knowing the key is here.

I have tried to do thinga a little differently for Mia's story. Throughout this arc, I have planted little seeds and clues, some more subtle than others. I just hope the resolution of this arc is satisfying to all.

Temporary command post, Felix Prime

Halpron, looks at his bride-to-be, sat next to him, a thousand miles away. His arm around her shoulder, she curls into him, numb.

Whilst Tara and Ali help with the search for the Sniper, Kim takes a moment to fully document her encounter with Mia, as if preserving this conversation in words, in some way preserves her.

Anya enters the room, with a thousand yard stare. She keeps her own counsel taking a seat at the table, trying to make sense of things.

Dani paces the perimeter of the room, phasing between the Living World and the Dead World and flickering like the image from an old projector.

Sasha tries to gather her thoughts but is torn, seeing the pain in her sister and knowing that there is nothing she can do in this moment to alleviate it.

Kate enters the room and sees the faces or her family, defeated. She takes a moment, to read Kim’s report and the autopsy findings and nods to herself, with a seed of a thought in her mind.

King Halpron feels the tension and emotion in the room and breaks the silence, “I know that no one wants to, however, can you please provide any updates on the events of the day?” He switches his gaze between everyone in the room, knowing that the mood needs to break, even if it means an emotional deluge.

Anya doesn’t lift her gaze from the floor, as she speaks, “High Priestess Angela and myself have examined Mia and have a few items of note.” She takes a deep breath and continues in a sombre tone, “Judging from the hole in her armour, the round entered her back on a slight downward trajectory, then pierced her heart, before exiting her body and struck the flash bang tucked into the front of her vest.”

The King nods, thoughtfully. He feels Nikita tense against him and he hugs her tightly, “Thank you, Priestess Arcana. Was there anything else?”

“Actually, yes. However, I am not sure what it means.” Anya confesses. She flicks a glance at Kim who gives a reassuring smile, “Kim mentioned in her encounter with Mia, that she had a more tanned left forearm than the rest of her body. Based on that, I checked and the hairs on her left forearm have an average length of eight to nine millimetres, where the hair on the rest of her body is a maximum of two millimetres.”

Kate looks at her thoughtfully and purses her lips before asking, “Did you take a look at any of the hairs?”

Anya flushes red, in a moment of nerves, “Yes.” A few seconds later, Ali creates a hologram before them of a hair plucked from Mia’s head.

Kate looks at the hair and doesn’t let her expression betray her, “Interesting. Were there any pieces of metal that you couldn’t identify?”

Anya shakes her head and Kate frowns, “Hmmm. I wonder.”

Nikita looks up at her aunt and wipes a tear from her eye, “You have that look. What do you know?”

Kate pulls out a pack of cigarettes and when the King nods, lights one, taking a thoughtful deep lungful of tobacco, “That shot, from that range, with the weapon we recovered? On a good day, I could put a round centre mass, Steve could hit a target’s heart, but the shot that killed Mia is over a million to one. The Sniper appears to have lain in wait for several hours before they took the shot. Not only that, they were in the perfect position to make it and potentially used a pumice stone to remove their dead akin and destroyed any trace in the oven.”

“Lucky shot? Good guess on best location?” Nikita asks, feeling her hackles rise.

Kate pauses thoughtfully, exhaling smoke front the corner of her mouth, before she begins “For a moment, lets talk about Mia. Hours before hand, Mia set up and ambushed Kim, then announced her target and confessed to her plan. She then waited, for someone to show up, having set up the room like a giant shaped charge. I would guess she expected Kim to show up looking for payback, but was surprised to see her Mother.”

Kate takes a moment to compose her thoughts, before continuing, “She detonated the charges, knowing that whoever came would wear an arrester and would be held in place when force was applied from all directions and she ran, an effect we didn’t know until today. Then she tore through the Kings Guardsmen at the grain repository with enough force to take them out of the fight, but without inflicting permanent injury, using previously unknown techniques. She then led our forces on a chase across the city using flashbangs and natural hazards to stymie pursuit and non lethal means to take out any opposition in her path.”

Sasha intersects after a slow breath, “She took me down hard and could have gotten away clean. Instead she chose to stay and save my life, knowing that the net was closing in.”

Kate pauses for a moment to let Sasha’s point sink in, “Then she ended up on the rooftop of the senate, where I spoke to her.” She takes a drag on her smoke and exhales frustrated.

“What is it?” Sasha asks, voicing the question on everyone’s mind.

“She was three steps ahead the whole time and planned the events of the day to the decimal point.” She squeezes the bridge of her nose and exhales slowly, “Yet she seemed surprised I was there and chose not to run. Instead she decided to talk on an exposed rooftop. On top of that, when she said about coming in, she turned her back on the river and in that moment was shot.”

Kate sits with a thoughtful look in her eyes for a moment, before stubbing out her smoke.

“What do you think that means?” King Halpron asks, softly.

“I wasn’t sure, until Anya showed us the hair from Mia’s arm. Normally when a hair is cut there is a straight edge, but her hair tapers, indicating it is short and has never been trimmed. When I first met Mia in South America, her hair was at least a centimetre long.” Kate explains, shaking her head in incredulity.

The room waits with baited breath, for her to continue. Kate gets a faraway look in her eyes as she remembers chasing the Sniper, “When I found the Sniper and chased them, something bothered me. I couldn’t put my finger on it at first. However, checking the drone footage, I spotted that the Sniper had a pale left forearm compared to the rest of her body. With the paleness ending at the same point that the tan ended on Mia’s arm.”

Nikita gasps and her eyes widen, with hope, “Really?” she gasps.

She nods to Nikita, “You mentioned that Mia was afraid of being dissected and copies grown.” Kate lights another cigarette, “I believe, she cut off her arm and grew a copy of herself and that copy was who Kim was ambushed by and who Nikita, Sasha and I confronted, before the original Mia shot her, to fake her own death.”

Sasha sees as Kim brings her hand to her mouth and feels tears in her eyes and puts her arm around her adopted daughter.

“Then she, as the Sniper revealed herself to me in disguise, knowing I would lead Atlantean forces to a showdown. She then turned on me, knowing the troops would open fire. We went downstream to find her body and found no trace. I wouldn’t be surprised if she had recovered from her injuries by the time she hit the water and went upstream and was out of the water in seconds.” She pauses taking another drag and shakes her head.

“I believe that Mia planned everything leading up to and including today, including her own death, by her own hand, so she could get away and Atlantis would be blame free.” Kate explains, “I think this was her plan all along. In fact, looking back, I am not even sure if she was genuinely poisoned in South America, I only had her word for it and no proof.”

Dani becomes fully present and pulls out a packet of cigarettes and light one when Halpron nods, “There might be something to that to be fair. I have been in and out of the Deadworld here all day and the only sound to pass through me were the Emperor, senators and an old farmer, who died of old age.” Dani breathes smoke from the corner of her mouth and squeezes the bridge of her nose, “Mia hasn’t passed through me.”

Nikita dries her eyes and stares into the distance, almost as if looking through the opposite wall, “Was anything she said real?”

Kate sighs and smiles gently, “I think for all her plans and exploits, the only thing she was wholly honest about, were her feelings. She loves you Niki. That radiates from her every pore.”

“Yeah, I got that sense when she spoke about you too.” Kim says tearfully.

Nikita allows herself a little smile and nods softly, “I felt it. When I looked into her eyes and I felt her pain. She is my little girl and I still love her. I will never give up on her.”

Halpron gently squeezes her shoulders, and softly says, “WE will never give up on her.”

Nikita looks up at him wide eyed. He looks into her eyes and smiles, then with all the love in his heart he says, “Love the woman. Love her family.”

Dear @wolfman you are always one good for spectacular and ingenious Plot twists. This Chapter is another Example for that ability. The Chapter starts with Family grieving - everybody dealing in their own way with the Events.

Then Kate enters the Scene and makes a compelling Case. Brilliant investigator she is.

Her Reasoning is sound and Dani corroborates her Train of Thought.

Most touching Halpron´s last line. It is a simple Truth.

We will see how this Arc will continue - you made me even more curious!

I always knew that Mia would have to die as part of this arc, but i wondered if it would be possible for to live as well.

I forshadowed a few things through the arc to hint at what she was up to and what she wanted. All in all I am happy with the way everything played out. I tried something new, Mia turned out great and it was great to get Kate back in action too.

Thank you for your kind words and continued patronage of this tale.

@Bandit666 @Caesar73 @GreyLord @slackywacky

Cathedral of the Phlogiston Order, Atlantis

The acoustics of the massive cathedral, echo with the weight of time.

Nikita stands before the assembled masses and raises her head to speak. Despite all the trappings of her life, she is dressed simply, in a pure white toga and black armband.

Nikita takes a deep breath and exhales slowly, addressing the crowd, “I was subjected to many medical experiments, when I was younger. One of those procedures involved the removal of my eggs.” She begins, trying to keep her voice steady. “The doctor that removed them, used one so he and his wife could have a child.”

“I found Mia after her parents were killed and when I held her, I felt nothing but my love for her. After I searched my heart, I knew my life at that time would put her in danger and she would have no chance at a normal life.” She lets out a ragged sigh, remembering Mia smiling up at her, from her crib, “I saw to it, that she could live with a wonderful family that would give her the life and love she deserved.”

“Mia. My little girl, was supposed to be safe and for a time she was.” She looks out across the crowd, seeing faces from across the realms and from all walks of life, “Then as my work here became better known. The leadership of the Pax Felix decided that they wanted their own version of me. They sent a team in the middle of the night and murdered Mia’s adopted parents, then dragged her screaming into the night.”

She locks eyes with Halpron and feels his strength as her nods to her with a look of love, “That was the first time, she lost her life.” Nikita closes her eyes to hold back tears, “She was raised in extreme time dilation. The innocent three year old girl, emerged over eighteen years old, trained in combat and a survivor of unspeakable things.”

“So hurt was she, that she embarked on a campaign of vengeance against those responsible and the regime itself.” She opens her reddened eyes and looks sadly over the assembly, “This campaign resulted in many lost lives and a deepening of her lost innocence, before her life was taken once more.”

She places her hands on the lectern, to steady herself, “I may not agree with the choices she made, however, I will not condemn her for them. She was my daughter and I will always love her. I pray, that wherever her soul is now, she can find peace and feel the love, that her family have for her.”

Her legs buckle, under the weight of emotion and her tears flow like a river. Halpron helps her to a seat and nods to Angela to continue the remembrance ceremony.

Angela takes to the podium, “Mia was not a child of Atlantis, however, in her own way she fought for freedom, giving the ultimate sacrifice.....”

The broadcast of the funeral, concludes with a procession of Atlantean and Pax Felix soldiers, lead by Steve and Kate, bearing Mia’s coffin with Dani, Sasha, Kim and her sisters.

The procession circles the cathedral twice and enters the subterranean mausoleum.

“This is a sombre day in our history. For the first time, in a thousand years, a non Atlantean is buried with full honours, bestowed by the Phlogiston Order and the Papal Crown of Felix Prime. Mia Greens life was short, but her actions will shape this generation and the next within the Pax Felix, delivering peace and democracy, at the cost of her life.” Neophytos says, ever the professional.

“With the collapse of the regime and it’s military, Atlantis is supporting all Pax nations, at this difficult time of transition. With the first free elections planned for six months time.”

She adjusts her pose, leaning into the camera and bringing an edge of seriousness to her demeanour, “The search continues for the body of the Assassin who took Mia's life. The Prime Slayer, evaded capture by Atlantean and Pax Felix Militia forces and was shot and subsequently fell into the river Carbani five days ago. As yet no trace has been found.”

“In other news, the number of realms joining the Atlantean banner, following Annunakin interventions, by the Liberators, has risen to almost sixty. With many nations proposing an alliance of realms uniting all known realms in peace and mutual protection.” She continues.

Neophytos’ demeanour lightens and she smiles into the camera, “In brighter news, it has been confirmed that the royal wedding will still take place as planned in a little over a month. With dignitaries and attendees from across the known realms, it will be an event for the ages.”

Halpron, sets down the tablet and relaxes. Nikita sits next to her betrothed resting her head on his shoulder, feeling the weight of the past few weeks.

“If you need time, I understand.” Halpron says, gently.

Nikita looks up at him, her bright blue eyes shining, “I still believe she is alive. It is hard to explain.”

Halpron nods, softly, “I have read Kate’s latest report and she has found more evidence supporting Mia being alive.” He pauses for a moment, “Setting the report aside, if I have learned one thing in my life, it is to trust my instincts.” He looks down at her meeting her gaze, “My gut tells me that if there is a part of her that comes from you, then she is not dead.”

“Thank you.” Nikita says snuggling up next to him.

“Wherever she is, we will find her and bring her home. There will always be a place for her here.” Halpron says, gently.

“What if she doesn’t want to live here? What if she just wants to disappear?” Nikita asks sadly.

“If that is the case, we make sure that she knows she is always welcome and the door will always be left open for her.” Halpron says, squeezing his bride to be.

“What of the scandal? She is terrified of being put in a cell. I couldn’t stand by and let that happen.” Nikita says, fearfully.

“To be fair, the interim government of the Pax Felix empire, is considering making her a national hero in light of her actions. When the elections are held for a democratic government, there is a good chance she will be in line for a medal rather than a cell.” Halpron explains, recalling meetings with Senator Dario.

“I can hope. But if she has gone to this much trouble to cover her tracks, I am not sure if she will ever want to be found.” Nikita confesses.

Halpron sighs, softly, “That may be true. Given her life, I would guess that someone who planned her death so meticulously, would have a plan for her life after, just as well laid out. In any case, when she is found, we need to be ready for her, with open arms.”

Nikita sits up and looks at him with a hint of surprise, “You mean that don’t you?”

Halpron nods gently, “She has overcome obstacles that would crush anyone else and sacrificed her future so save you from being dragged through the mud. Anyone who would do such a thing for the only woman I have ever loved, has my eternal gratitude and a place in the royal household of Atlantis.”

“But what of the scandal, if she did come home?” Nikita asks, fearfully.

Halpron smiles, “Scandals are only a fleeting moment in history, however, doing the right thing, echoes across the ages.” He hugs her warmly, “You are my whole world. Mia is a part of you and will always have a place with us. No matter what.”

The Eulogy Nikita delivered was magnificent. Solemn and befitting the Occasion. One sees the funerl Procession before the Eyes.

Wonderful how Halpron supports Nikita in these Hours.

At the Moment it seems, Mia does not want to be found. But who knows? Mysterious are the Ways of the Gods.

For now I am looking forward to the Wedding!

The truth will out. Or so the saying goes.

History is moments that echo through time. Most scandals are events of the day, that burn themselves out ans becpme footnotes against a much larger background.

When I first introduced Halpron, he was new to the role, unsure and nervous. As the story has gone on, he has grown closer to Nikita and has grown into the role of a just king and become the man he wanted to be. At the same time, Nikita has softened and shows more of her heart.

It seems only right that we see their wedding.

@Bandit666 @Caesar73 @GreyLord @slackywacky

Royal cathedral, Heamos Ring, Atlantis, Midday, Two months later.

The vast cavernous interior of the cathedral is cool, compared to the heat of the early afternoon outside. Stained glass windows depict the rise and fall of Kings and heroes from the realms history and beyond.

The vast columns and ceiling are adorned with iconography from all the religions of earth, from Christianity to Aborigine Dream Time beliefs, all exalting virtue and condemning base behaviour.

This is a place that celebrates the realms heroes from all of history and today is just such a day.

King Halpron, of Atlantis stands with his back to the crowd of dignitaries and ambassadors from across the known realms.

The Crown of Iffice, rests easy on his head, it’s Orichalcum almost glowing and gems sparkling.

For the past three nights, he has ensured that every Orichalcum button, inlay and buckle of his ceremonial military uniform gleams. The black jacket and trousers, are crisply ironed by his hand, as is his shirt. His boots, polished to a mirrored shine, complete the look of a warrior king.

In his mind, he looks back, seeing every moment of his life that has led him to this point. He casts his gaze upwards half expecting to see his father gazing down at him.

He turns away from the crowd for a moment, briefly catching a glance from his sister, who winks and smiles. She bears her own Crown of Office as head of the Phlogiston Order and a fine silken toga, with a gold belt.

When he turns back to the front, Angela glances at Louise and Kate, with a smile, mouthing, “All OK?”

Kate, and Louise give a surreptitious thumbs up each and smiles back “Are you?”

Angela glances at her brother and them back to them, “I am so proud of him.”

Louise scratches up her nose and smiles, “I am not surprised.”

They settle back in her seat and Louise subconsciously flattens the dark green silk of her halter neck dress. Kate nudges her and whispers, “Don’t worry, you look amazing.”

Louise goes red for a moment, then whispers, “Sorry, but it feels like the eyes of the world are on us.”

“Don’t worry about it. You look great and once Nikita arrives, the pressure will be off.” Kate says, “Besides, Anya has made amazing dresses for us.” She continues, admiring the cut of the dark blue, silk, halter neck she wears.

“This is a crazy family.” Louise thinks, reflecting on all of the things that have happened, since she first invited Steve into her life.

Carl tugs at the collar of his shirt. Jim snorts a chuckle, “Everything you are wearing is tailor made for you. Chill, brother.”

“Yeah I know, I’m just not cut out for formal dress codes.” Carl says, with mock grumpiness.

“We both look sharp though. I have never looked this good in a suit.” Jim sighs.

“To be honest mate, at least two thirds of the ladies and a fifth of the men, checked out your arse, when you walked in.” Carl says with a nudge.

“I am not ready for that.” Jim says, sadly.

“I know man.” Carl says, with a grim nod, “But, the longer you lock up your feelings, the harder it is to free them.”

From the other side of Carl, Fey pipes up, “You guys are both need to get out there and rejoin the human race.” She leans forward, locking eyes with Jim, “Nat wouldn’t want you wallowing. Let the world in again. Feel the love that surrounds you.”

“She has a point.” Carl agrees.

Fey rounds on him, “And you! Step out of your lab once in a while and be a part of the world. I know you blame yourself for not seeing the signs with Ivy, but you can’t live half a life trying to find a way to put it right. You gotta let it go and make peace with it.”

“But....” Carl begins, before Fey cuts him off, “No buts, from either of you. I have stood by and watched you both wallow in you own ways. You both deserve better. You are not responsible for Nat and she wouldn’t want you punishing yourselves.”

Despite her quiet voice, her tone resonates with her brothers in this moment and they both nod thoughtfully.

“Today, is about Niki. She deserves this and we owe it to her to be fully in this.” Fey says, warmly.

Cassius sits proud in full ceremonial uniform with a chest full of medals. His pride comes from seeing the young man who came to his command wet behind the ears, stand before the world, ready to commit to the woman he loves. He gently squeezes the hand of his wife of thirty years, Cleo and smiles at her.

Hush descends across the cavernous space. Even the statues and reliefs of religious iconography from across the realms seem to hold their breath, as the music begins.

The traditional wedding march, is played by a company of military musicians on a combination of bagpipes, drums and brass instruments.

Nikita enters the vast chamber, her hair worn down in loose black ringlets about her shoulders. Her veil, made from the smoke of the candles burned on the night before the wedding, is a one of a kind and somehow fitting as her something new.

Her dress, crafted from the essence of the ocean, on the first day of spring, is an appliqué dress with a classic boat neck, that hugs her body, leaving her shoulders and arms uncovered. It splays out just above her hips and tumbles in flowing waves to the ground, like a silent eternal waterfall, changing from the white of the surf, to green and blues, reflecting all the colours of the sea.

Nikita beams a smile, thinking of the journey her life has taken to get to this point “Who would have thought, when I was strapped down on a Medteqniq experimentation table that I would end up here? Life is kind of mental.”

She feels the comforting tightness of the sky blue garter adorning her left thigh and smiles again, “Not bad for a something blue. However, I can’t believe my something borrowed is a necklace from the Atlantean Crown jewels.”

As she walks, her eyes play across the crowd and she thinks, “This is wild. I still feel like a checkout girl in a fairy tale.” She wiggles her left hand, jiggling the bracelet, from the ruins of Daemos, that is her something old.

She walks arm in arm with the proudest father in all the known realms. Steve wears the parade uniform of the Royal Marine Commandoes, his chest adorned with his campaign and distinguished service medals. Despite the years since his service, his uniform needed no tailoring.

Dani and Sasha follow, each clutching a bouquet of wild flowers, from the further reaches of the realms, hand picked by Kim. Each wears a halter neck, floor length dress, crafted from the light of the summer equinox’s sunrise, that shifts from pinks, to orange, red and blues. They walk confidently on two inch heels in the same colour as their dresses.

Kim and her sisters walk side by side, behind their aunts. Each wearing a full length dress, split to just above the knee, with their left arm and shoulder bare, leaving their right side fully covered. Crafted from the first frost of winter, subtly shifting between different shades of white with iridescent tinges of green and purple.

Anya on the outer left, wears her Tiara of office and her ring. Ali wears the ring Anya made her. Kim wears a white leather eyepatch, crafted from the same frost as her dress and displays her tattoos with pride. Tara walks on the outer right, with a simple bracelet bearing the symbol for her discipline. All walk tall. All wear heels matching their dress. All of them feel proud of their aunt and full of love.

“This is so mad.” Tara psis, with a love heart.

“This is more grandiose than anything I could ever create.” Ali psis, smiling at the guests.

With a childlike sense of wonder, Anya Psis, “The Atlanteans sure do know how to put on a show.”

“I just hope I don’t embarrass her by slipping in these heels.” Kim psis beaming at her sisters.

“I have pinned an effect to the dresses that if anyone loses balance, the dress will catch them with telekinesis.” Tara psis, sheepishly.

“For real? That is awesome.” Ali psis with admiration.

“When the photos have been done, click your heels together and your shoes with transform into pumps, without a heel. Click them again to become heels.” Anya psis, off handedly.

“OK. You are officially a genius.” Kim Psis.

“Guilty as charged. How is the show looking?” Anya psis,

Ali smiles knowingly, “I have gone all in on it. Just wait and see. I cannot get over how awesome everyone looks.”

“You really have stepped up Anya.” Kim psis.

Anya blushes and psis, “Behave guys, you will make me cry.”

“Sorry babe, just needs to be said, that you rock.” Tara psis.

“We all do. Right now we are walking in formation, as the seven of the most capable and dangerous women in the realms.” Anya psis.

Halpron’s heart leaps, when he turns to gaze upon his future wife. He beams a smile, with love in his eyes.

Nikita feels her heart skip looking him in the eyes, as they draw closer. As she draws closer she feels her heart melt a little more with each step. Even now, something in his eyes, makes her feel like a giddy schoolgirl.

Standing side by side, looking in each others eyes, they barely notice the bridal party quietly taking their seats. Halpron takes her hand and whispers, “You look so beautiful Niki, I love you so much.”

“I’ve missed you. You look incredible.” Nikita whispers with a smile, “Is this real?”

Halpron gently squeezes her hand, “As real as my hand in yours. Before anything else, I want you to know, that since you came into my life, it has become better with each day and I love you more than ever.”

Angela leans forward, with tears in her eyes, whispering “Sorry to interrupt, but if you carry on like this, I will be too busy, crying happy tears to officiate.”

Halpron’s best man and cousin Titus, reaches into the lapel pocket of his sharply tailored jacket and pulls out a pocket square, offering it to the High Priestess.

Angela takes the cloth, with a smile and dabs her eyes, while Nikita warmly whispers, “Please don’t. You will set me off.”

Titus gives Angela a wink and she slips the handkerchief into a dimensional pocket.

Hush descends across the Cathedral. High Priestess Angela of the Phlogiston Order, speaks as the highest cleric in the realm, “We are gathered here today, to witness the union of King Halpron, of Atlantis, and Saviour Nikita Rebecca Green.”

Kim nervously stands and addresses the crowd, “As the representative of Allied Nations and Liberated Realms, I confirm that this Union will be recognised across the realms.”

“If any being knows of any lawful impediment to this marriage, speak now, or forever hold your peace.” Angela says, watching the crowd.

Nikita tenses, fearfully of hearing someone object and squeezes Halpron’s hand, getting a wink and a loving smile in return.

Angela smiles softly, hearing only silence. She raises her voice and addresses the room, “No objections have been raised and so, we continue.”

The High Priestess Stands tall, reciting passages from the bible, Torah and Qur’an, about the sanctity of marriage. With confidence she quotes passages from the Mahabharata, Dream time and countless sources, relating to the importance of a lifelong pledge of devotion.

Angela beams a smile and nods, “The groom will now recite his pledge.”

Halpron takes a deep breath and exhales slowly, allowing himself to relax, “Nikita. Since we first met, you have shown me new ways to love you every day. I bless every day, since that first moment and am grateful for all that we have shared. You came into my life, when I was still reeling from the loss of my father and your belief gave me the strength to become the man I needed to be.” He pauses, composing himself, before continuing, “You accepted me as the man I am, without hesitation and opened your heart to me. You showed me the world, with new eyes. I cannot imagine a life without you by my side and in my heart. I stand before you as I always have, not as a King, but as a man. As I look at you now, I see the love I feel for you. I close my eyes and I feel the part of you that is me. I hereby pledge, to devote the rest of my life to showing you what I see when I look at you and showing my love for you every day. I give myself to you, with all the love in my heart.”

Nikita feels every word resonate in her soul, looking into Halpron’s eyes, seeing only love. She mouths, “I love you.”

Halpron squeezes her hand, then mouths, “I love you too, my darling.”

Angela looks to Nikita, with the gravity of her office and solemnly asks, “Do you accept this pledge?”

Nikita nods nervously, fighting tears of joy and speaks softly, “I do.”

Nikita feel the breath catch in her throat, before she composes herself, “King Halpron. To me your name is love, as that is all you have ever shown me. When we first met, I doubted the person I was and you showed me a new way to look at myself. You opened yourself to me and let me into your heart. The love you give me, makes my heart soar.” She looks into his eyes and sees only love reflected back, “You planted the seeds of peace and love in my heart, after a life of turmoil. You are the face I see when I close my eyes and the love I feel when we are apart. I was born to modest means. I was born of a humble life. I have no wealth to bestow as a token of my eternal love for you. I can only offer my deeds and my love. I pledge to always be by your side, support you in all you do and be a worthy Queen for Atlantis.”

Angela looks to Halpron fighting the emotions roiling within and asks, “Do you accept this pledge?”

Halpron nods and smiles, “I do. With all my heart.” He smiles at his bride, his heart swelling with love for her.

Angela nods to Titus, who produces a plush velvet bound box and opens it. Angela passes a ring to Nikita, “Repeat after me.” She says beaming a smile.

In the wake of the vows, Halpron and Nikita stand breathlessly facing each other. The walls of the cathedral and the assembled guests, seem miles distant and a lifetime away.

Then like a bolt from the blue, they are back in the moment, hearing the words they have been dreaming of for so long, “Pledges have been exchanged with love, vows have been made and it is my great pleasure to pronounce you husband and wife.”

Halpron leans in, gently cupping Nikita’s shoulder and places a soft kiss upon her lips. The air is split by a cacophonous roar from the crowd as the guests cheer.

Halpron pulls her close and hugs her tightly, “I love you with every fibre of my being, Your Royal Highness.”

Dear @wolfman? I find it difficult to describe this marvellous chapter with words that do it justice. I will try though. You create a solemn Atmosphere. Every Word is at is place. It is easy to imagine to be at the Cathedral. To stand in the Crowd and watch Nikita striding down regally the Aisle, accompanied by her Family. Steve giving her away. He must look splendid in his Dress Uniform!

This Family is such a wonderful Mix of Characters.

And the Vows of Halpron and Nikita? They capture the Essence of both.

@Bandit666 @Caesar73 @GreyLord @slackywacky

Crowds line the polished streets with cheers of joy. Their cries echo across the realms and in the annuls of history.

A young girl, no more than five years old, sees the King and new Queen and almost faints with joy, when Nikita turns to her and smiles.

The solid Orichalcum chariot, leads the parade, pulled by six pure white horses, of Arabian descent. The horses have trained for this all their lives and will spend their days in luxury and stud after today.

King Halpron has linked arms with Queen Nikita. He has a rein for the horses in his free right hand, while Nikita has the other rein in her free left hand. Between them they work in perfect union to control the horses and steer their course, a metaphor for the life that awaits them.

Marching in tight formation, a company of the King’s guard in full black and Orichalcum trimmed uniforms, keep pace with the King and his new bride, swords glinting at their sides.

Following close behind, a company of the Saviour’s Guards march, ever ready. Between them, the two units represent the most elite military forces, Atlantis has ever fielded, with each boasting some one the most highly decorated and experienced soldiers in all the realms.

Four companies, representing the different Air, Sea, Land, Civil and Rescue branches of Hoplites follow, in full battle dress. Shiny black Sheaths, trimmed in Orichalcum, under heavy armour. Coil guns gleaming in the afternoon sun. Despite their different foci, they march as one, in service to the nation and its Monarchy.

Overhead, the Raptors of the Custodian Shift Fighter Force blink silently, in and out of reality, above a loose cloud of Phlogiston Order drones, proving that the air in all realms belongs to them.

In camouflaged Sheaths with left arms bared, the battle hardened corps of the Liberators, lead by Chief Cyclops follows. With swords and wedge axes gleaming, they stand tall and true. Accompanying them are around a hundred men and women, representing the many worlds they have freed from Annunakin oppression. The Liberators randomly, blink in and out of the realm, as they keep a watchful eye on other allied realms, while fulfilling their duties to the King and Queen, as well as their oaths.

The sunlight glitters blindingly upon heavy Orichalcum battle armour. Anya leads a triad of Phlogiston Order Arcane priestesses, leading a column of alchemists and medical professionals.

The Esotericans of the Kinetics ministry, led by Phobos, with Tara at his shoulder, glide above the ground. They floating tight formations, whipping up dust devil’s and intricate weaves of orbiting spheres around them.

The crowd gasps and cheers as the members of the Glamour ministry, ride atop iridescent dragons, blasting gouts of flame into the air. At their feet, icons of history walk once again, from Nelson Mandela to Robin Hood and Zeud waving at the crowd. Ali smiles to herself astride a great solid light, holographic beast, “We are the smallest ministry, but we will be the most remembered.”

The patchwork fatigues and armour of the Haven Militia sets them apart. No two individuals are dressed or armed the same, but each bears the sense of duty to their adopted home. None of the assembled soldiers, share a birthplace, however, they all share a commitment to defending their home. None were born in Haven, however all claim it as the home they would die defending.

Marching proud and true, in traditional style, Centurion armour and a ceremonial Gladius, come the Remnants of the Pax Felix Military. United by a love for their brethren and the people of their nation. Led by former Captain, now Centurion Martini of the Pax Felix Military. They are a symbol for the change in the nation, providing aid to the nation, where once they provided the rule of law.

The robot horses of the Steppes Cavalry bray with unearthly power, as their fur and hide wearing riders, advance side by side with the natural horse born Knights of Avalon in high tensile steel, full plate, armour. Where the Steppes archers carry compound bows and swords, the Avalonians carry heavy assault weapons and wear a sword at their hip. Both represent the most effective mounted forces that the realms have ever known.

In contrast to the magnificent horses and shiny uniforms, the company of the battle hardened, Gilgamesh Legion of Babylon march in respectful silence. Each soldier has their weapon held at low port, ready for battle.

As they pass, they make way for the first of the Menagerie. The spider centaurs of the Anasazi, march smartly. Each of their six legs moving in perfect rhythm. Their bare human torsos, mounted on their spider like lower bodies, glisten black in the light. Shields proud on their left arms, assault carbine held in their right hands. These powerful warriors, call the jungles of Amazonia home, where they do daily battle against Titanaboa, were-jaguars and angry spirits to defend the tribes of the rain forest.

The Prides of Leo stalk in their wake. Each eight foot tall warrior, is naked save for a chain mail skirt, showing their thick golden fur proudly. Tall and proud, the lions only weapons are their teeth and claws, with a roar that cows many foes into submission. They stalk the parade route like their ancestors, would stalk antelope in the high plains of their realm, drawing gasps from the crowd.

The ape warriors of Lemuria, dance and cavort to the strains of fiddles, drums and bagpipes. The garish tartans and wild acrobatics, are a sight to behold. However, even the most naive of viewers, cannot deny the wicked sharpness of their blades and the deadly skills of the warriors, who wield them.

In their wake, are the cream of the Sciuridae special forces. Descended from flying squirrels, their dyed fur is matt black in the sun and folds of their ankle to wrist patagium, conceal many specialist weapons, from smoke bombs to shuriken and Ninja-to. The three foot tall Ninja squirrels bounce along on all fours and occasionally leap into the air and glide, giving a hint to the unpredictable nature of their assaults where they swarm their targets with blistering speed.

Sharing the realm of Nihon, with the Sciuridae, the enhanced hawk samurai of the Zaibatsu, battle at their sides every day, as champions of the realm. Long slim legs ending in talons, carry them on the ground, but all eyes are on the steel and carbon fibre wings and cybernetic arms. The noble corporate samurai watch the crowd through the finest optics money can buy.

And on and on, the parade continues, with forces from across the realms, showing their support for their ally an in some cases saviour, Atlantis.

The message is clear to one and all. The realms support Atlantis and honour it’s King and Queen, publicly, for all to see.

Nikita stands arm in arm with Halpron. The photographer, beams a smile and politely asks, “Would you be able to kiss the Queen on her cheek, Your Majesty?”

“With pleasure.” Halpron says, gently pecking Nikita on the cheek. Before he pulls back he quietly whispers, “When we get to our room, I intend to worship my Queen.”

“Lovely.” The photographer says, as the camera clicks, “Would you be able to lift her up in your arms, Your Majesty?”

He scoops her up in his arms and Nikita quietly whispers, “When we get back, your Queen will be your greatest servant.”

“Fantastic.” The photographer says taking the picture. “Can you please kiss her, Your Majesty?”

Halpron nods and smiles and leans in to kiss his bride, whispering, “For now the lips, but later, my lips will ravish every inch of your body.”

The camera clicks, and the photographer exclaims, “That is beautiful.”

“Could I get you to embrace and face the camera, cheek to cheek, Your Majesties?” the photographer asks.

Halpron and Nikita exchange a loving smile and pose cheek to cheek. The camera clicks twice and as the photographer checks the images, Nikita whispers, “We are going to explore every form of pleasure possible.”

The photographer nods and beams a smile, “Perfect.” He reaches for a small music player, “Would you be able to dance for a few minutes and I will take some dynamic shots? It would help me to see how Your Majesty’s dress will move for the first dance later.”

The King smiles but shakes his head, “The first dance is a ceremonial engagement, which represents the first presentation of us to the realm. We cannot dance before this.”

“I know a way around it.” Nikita says with a twinkle in her eyes. “Hold out your hand.”

Halpron chuckles, “That would work.” He nods to the photographer, “You might want to take a few steps back and be ready.”

Halpron stands ramrod straight and holds his arm straight out to his left. Nikita slips off her shoes and takes a deep breath. She nods to Halpron, who smiles and nods back.

She somersaults from a standing start and plants her right foot on his hand, with her left leg bent and arms outstretched. The air is filled with sounds of the camera clicking, as Halpron flicks her up and she flips and lands once again on his hand.

Then Halpron extends his other hand and flick her upwards again, his massive arms flinging Nikita’s three hundred pound frame effortlessly to his other hand, via a somersault over his head.

For the next ten minutes, the camera captures the King physical prowess and Nikita’s flexibility and skill.

At the end, Nikita lands and slips her shoes back on, “Was that sufficient?”

The photographer, slowly nods, mouth agape, “I have never seen anything like that before. That was magnificent.”

Halpron whispers quietly, “Not as magnificent as what will happen later, behind closed doors.”

The photographer, nods, checking the images from his camera, “Incredible.”

The tables laid out in the great hall, bustle with the low murmur of conversation, until the light go down and the dance floor is illuminates with a single beam of light.

From one side, steps Halpron in full uniform. From the other emerges Nikita in her wedding dress. In each of their right hands, is a razor sharp Gladius.

A drum beats once and they advance, it beats again and they clash swords. The drum beats again and they strike again slowly, thus beginning the Dance of Swords.

The music of Atlantean pipes, swirls in the air as the drums pick up tempo and the faster the swords clash in a blinding display of skill.

Gasps rise from the assembled guests, as Nikita and Halpron strike and parry flawlessly, the clash of their blades like unto a machine gun barrage.

Halpron advances, Nikita evades. Nikita sweeps low and Halpron leaps high. With each flurry, they draw ever closer until they are cheek to cheek and the drums cease.

Halpron and Nikita link arms and raise their swords, to show Atlantis that they are equals in skill and ready to stand side by side in defence of the realm.

The first dance is complete and The King and Queen rise, united and exalted among the realms, their union official in the eyes of all.

With one single Word? Magnificent. Magnificent was the description of the Procession. In me it evoked the feeling to actually be there.

The First Dance was really some sort of Dance :D Well, not a slow Waltz, but close.
