Lesser Known Cartoon Damsels and Missed Opportunities (M or F)

Post by SashaMoh »

Hey everyone. So part of my TUG life involves cosplay. While thinking of new ones it got me thinking about the characters that inspired it. Theres the classics like Daphne Blake, April Oneil, Lois Lane, etc.

So I thought Id start a discussion here on favorite Lesser Known Cartoon Damsel Scenes OR Characters/Villains men or women you always hoped would get their moment, but didnt.

One of mine was Connie from Adventures in Odyssey. There was a tied/gagged scene in one of the movies that was one of the first times I realized it affected me when I was younger. Missed opportunities I always thought were Cruella Deville (cartoon version. Its the fur coat lol) or Helga from Atlantis

What are your thoughts?

Fun topic!

Might have to come back and post once I properly recollect.

But for now, let's see...

Detective Elisa Maza (Gargoyles)

While I'm certain that there were instances where she got herself captured; she never really had a full-blown "damsel-in-distress" moment. I don't think she was ever even gagged.

Notable, since Detective Elisa Maza more or less was something comparable to April O' Neil: she was a frequent snoop who just so happened to have a group of humanoid creatures for friends. Guess she was too dang tough!

Sandy Cheeks (Spongebob)

Really, I'm just stumped trying to recall old cartoons; but I couldn't just skip one of the most hugely successful ones, could I?

Regardless, SAndy Cheeks never found herself in a full DiD situation because...well, she's also too much of a badass. Plus, the diving suit.

Katara, Toph, Azula, Ty Lee, Mai, etc... (Avatar: The Last Airbender)

Aha...!! Finally remembered a hugely noteworthy cartoon...!!

In a huge cast of characters going across multiple seasons...there were VERY few moments where these characters got substantially tied up / placed in a DiD situation.

Didn't stop the show from being spectacular, however.

Let's see...there was one time Katara got caught briefly by Zuko...Katara and Toph got VERY briefly captured by some secret police...Azula's final scene where she had her mental breakdown...

...and that's it, I think.

Seems to be the recurring theme where these particular characters are just too dangerous / formidable to get kidnapped or captured for very long.

Jana of the Jungle - A 13 episode cartoon from 1968 about a teenage jungle girl whose father was a jungle explorer who was lost during a boat accident
when she was a child and was raised but the primitive warrior who rescued her from the water after the same accident. Basically,
she was a female Tarzan. During the short run of the show, she was netted a couple of times, tied up twice and caged once. The
scenes weren't great and she deserved many more episodes.

Sally Sargeant - A animated pilot only episode about a hip teenage sleuth ala Nancy Drew. In her only adventure, she managed to get captured and tied
up but sadly not gagged. This show definitely needed multiple seasons.
