There are several reasons:

1. Bare feet are often being associated with feeling helpless. A few centuries ago, shoes had been a status symbol whereas all the poor people couldn't afford shoes.

White socks are a must lol. I don’t care about the rest of the outfit

I’ve got to go with converse or white socks. Personally I love being tied up in my converse, something about watching the laces bounce as I frantically struggle, and hearing the rubber soles squeak together really does it for me.
Also, white socks just look good on a bound individual ...
